Did February feel long to you? No? Just me? I think sub-zero temps have a way of making time stand still. But that’s all behind us now and spring is on it’s way….sooner or later. Before we welcome in March, in all it’s blustery, emerald glory, let’s open up the runfessional. Getting the runfessions out of one’s system is always a good idea.
As you read this, we are in Atlanta, visiting daughter #1 so it may be a minute before I get around to responding, but rest assured, I will. Ok ready to get started with runfessions for a short month that felt long? Let’s do it.
Runfessions for a Short Month That Felt Long
Since my hip diagnosis, I’ve been busy figuring out what sorts of workouts I CAN do. Because life is all about doing, rather than lamenting what you can no longer do. That said, it seems running is not completely off the table…yet. While I have not yet gotten a cortisone shot or consented to any other hip-related voodoo, there have been times when my hip has felt good enough to run. Said runs were carefully executed and in interval form, but it was pain-free running all the same, and for that I am grateful.
With spring comes decluttering and since I’m not running hardly at all, my drawers upon drawers of winter running attire have come into question. Do I really need so much stuff if I’m not going to be outside running all the miles anymore? While I continue to do plenty of walking outdoors, the layering game just isn’t the same. I runfess the jury is still very much out on this one.
I’ve been doing plenty of strength training at home lately and it’s no secret that I love it. In my opinion, strength and balance are everything as we age, especially. While I love color as much as the next person, I runfess I’d never considered a color scheme, per se, for my home gym. Then I saw that Pottery Barn, of all places, is selling kettle bells in tasteful, neutral colors. And here I thought my good old red ones were just fine.
Okay your turn: What have you to runfess? Would you buy workout equipment to match your decor?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday.
Those kettlebells are very pretty, but I’d probably take a pass. Even though I’m all about color, I much prefer to wear my colors (not lift them, LOL). You are SO right in pointing out the layering game is very different in running vs. walking. It gets even trickier when you factor in biking…it’s much colder on a bike, even in “warm” weather.
I’m glad to hear that your hip is holding steady. Have you gotten a diagnosis? You’re a smart athlete, I know you will listen to your body.
Umm, pretty kettlebells? My cheapo black ones will do just fine. But how will they look on the gram? :p
Good news on your hip! Any amount of pain-free running is a good thing!
Wow on the kettlebells from PB. I think it’s a smart move on their part —especially for people who don’t have a separate workout space. Or, people like my husband who keeps weights in the family room to use while watching tv.
Have fun in Atlanta!
I am also leaning more into strength and loving my workouts. Hope your hip is not too painful. Now me heading over to see such kettle bells. lol. My gym is mostly black and red modeled after Peloton colors years ago. I could go for those grey ones though 🙂
I have embrace the walk intervals… I may be slower but I can finish long runs and races.
Glad to hear that you can do things and your hip doesn’t hurt.
I wear the same old same old for running clothes in the winter. I need to get rid of the tights that I don’t like.
So good to hear that you’re managing some pain-free runs!
Leave it to PB – I would not have thought to color coordinate my home gym. I must admit I do appreciate the neutral pallete. 🙂
Have fun in Atlanta!
Yay for cautious yet pain-free running! Hopefully, the osteoarthritis stays quiet for a good while longer. And even better that you managed it without the cortisone!
As for those pretty kettlebells—step away, Marcia! 😆 Remember, you’re a dedicated decluttering pro now—no need to add more stuff!
I do get very happy with coordinating and aesthetic visuals, so I would totally snap up those kettelbells! Why hasn’t anyone done that sooner?
