Here we are, our last coffee date of 2024. It really flew, didn’t it? Fastest year ever, IMO. Let’s sit down with Deborah and Coco for a little catch-up sesh as we sip something warm, cuz it sure is cold here!
December Coffee Date
Over coffee I’d tell you something is up with my hip. I’ve had mild on-and-off pain for awhile, but not when I run. One night though, the pain got so acute, I had to take ibuprofin in order to sleep. Since then it’s more of a dull pain, but now it also hurts (mildly) when I run. This week I decided to back off most of the running and I’m opting for the bike instead. I’ll get it checked out. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Sigh.
Over coffee I’d ask about your Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We were thrilled to have our kids home with us, although of course it all flew too fast. Getting Thing 2 to the airport to head back to campus on the busiest travel day of the year was not for the faint of heart. Airport traffic was backed up for miles on the tollway so we opted for plan B, which involved dropping her at O’Hare’s Car Rental Center so she could board the plane train to her terminal. Thankfully that worked like a charm and we pre-scheduled an Uber for her in Roanoke that was waiting when she landed. Phew!
Over coffee I’d ask if you’ve spotted Venus in the Western pre-dawn sky. It’s quite visible from here and I’m enjoying it.
Over coffee I’d tell you that for Thanksgiving, Thing 2 baked the best apple pie I’ve ever had. It may not look like extraordinary, but boy oh boy was it ever good. Like all pies everywhere, it was a complete PIA to make, but I sure hope she’ll make another when she returns in a few weeks.
Over coffee I’d tell you our quaint little town is the setting for not one but two Holiday movies. We had film crews here for months last spring, complete with fake (and real) snow. Mario Lopez and his family spent 6 weeks here shooting Once Upon a Christmas Wish, which premiers this Saturday. You may recognize some of my running trails seen in Christmas On the Ranch.
What would you tell me over coffee?
Deborah Brooks says
We have lots of movies filmed here too and it’s fun to see how they turn out. I am a sucker for some cheesy Christmas movies when the hubs is not here. Hope your hip feels better soon. It is always something-gotta love aging!
Catrina says
Oh no! Sorry to hear about the hip! I hope it’s nothing serious. Good move to shift to the bike instead.
I slept extremely well this week. A friend said that it might be the influence of Venus being close to the Earth right now. It’s something I never thought about.
Venus will make it’s next appearance in March 2025 – I hope that doesn’t mean sleepless nights until then!
Wendy says
I’m so sorry to hear about your hip. Girl, we are getting old. Sigh. I’m currently taking care of the hubs, who had back surgery (laminectomy L3, L4, L5). He was doing great the first couple of days but it had to be the drugs. He is grumpy now. Sigh…
Debbie says
I’m sure filming those movies was somewhat disruptive, but I do love watching Hallmark Christmas movies. Will you watch them, or is that not your jam?
Hope your hip pain is nothing big and improves quickly. Half my injuries seem to be from sleeping weird.
That pie looks amazing. I do love a good crumble topping rather than crust.

“If it’s not one thing, it’s another.” I HEAR YOU! It’s always, always something. I hope your hip pain resolves soon.
Getting my son back to school was also a huge pain… for him. It was okay on our end, but then his flight was delayed and he had to get from Dallas to Waco… it wasn’t pretty. I’m hoping this will make him think about going to grad school a little closer!
That’s so fun about the movies. I don’t know I’ve ever mentioned this, but my claim to fame is that the movie “Risky Business” was shot partially in the town where I grew up (this was while I was still there) and our house is in the background of one of the shots!!!
Jenn says
I’m sorry about your hip. I hope you get a handle on it soon.
And I’m so glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Your heart must be so full.
Guess I know what Christmas movie I’m watching next!
Kimberly Hatting says
I LOVE your coffee mug pictured above! Glad your Thanksgiving was great with the girls, and that pie looks amazing. Ugh on the hip…I hope it’s nothing too serious.
Farrah says
I hope your hip feels better soon! I’m in the same-ish boat but in my ankle instead, so I emailed my doctor about scheduling an appointment to [finally] get it checked out.
That’s so cool that your town is a filming location (hope it didn’t cause a lot of disruption/traffic though)! I don’t know of any that were done here, but I do love watching happy-sappy Lifetime/Hallmark movies over the holidays, hehe.
Michelle says
Ugh I’m so sorry to hear about your hip. As someone who’s been dealing with hip-related issues for a good chunk of this year, I’m really hoping whatever’s ailing you is short-lived!
So glad you enjoyed some good family time! Great planning for getting your daughter back to school – I was actually surprised how easy it was to get my son back to campus.
