It’s an all-out sprint here toward the holidays. I am burning the candle at both ends as I dash into birthday week. I’m one of those lucky ones (not) who gets to celebrate at the busiest time of year. Hey I’m not complaining. I’ll take another trip around the sun any way I can get it.
Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Sunday: Walk 2 miles, 30 min. Bike Hills and Sprint Intervals. Strength + Sauna
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Treadmill Hybrid Run/Incline Hike
Tuesday: Walk 2 miles, otherwise rest (very early work day)
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles, Strength + Core
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, 30 min. Treadmill Run/Hike
Friday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Strength Benchmark workout (ouch) + 15 minutes stretching
Other than our walks, some of which were shortened thanks to polar weather, I kept my workouts inside in an effort to rest my cranky hip. Said hip is feeling so much better, although not quite 100%. I’m keeping an eye on it.
I am eagerly counting the days until the kiddos return to the nest for the holidays. They are both arriving this week on the same day, alas at different times, so we’ll make a couple of trips to ORD. What can you do? As I write, Thing 2 is in the midst of her final exams. So far so good! Both of their schools made it to Bowl Games this season so it will be fun cheering them on.
The folks at Kuru sent me their Triple Max Ion shoes for review. They are designed for foot health and all-day comfort. So far I’ve worn them in the gym for strength workouts and on the treadmill for hybrid run/incline hikes. I’ve gotta say they feel heavenly on my feet. Stay tuned for a full review.
I won’t lie, 2024 has been a challenging one for us in a multitude of ways. We’ve navigated health issues, professional challenges, and this week we had a death in the family. I’ve been leaning into gratitude and looking for the beauty and goodness around me. It may not be easy, but we will get through it.
How was your week? Are you ready for the holidays? Traveling? Was 2024 good to you?

You have had a challenging year and I hope next year goes a little more smoothly for you all. Also got the cool new shoes and can’t wait to test them out! Enjoy your birthday with the kids home.

So sorry to hear about the loss in your family – as if you haven’t been dealing with enough already.
2025 will hopefully be a better year for you. Having Things 1 and 2 with you is a good start!
With your changes at work, you will probably experience less stress overall – you would definitely deserve more peace and quiet. 🥰

Very nice form on those renegade rows! Here’s to better days in 2025!

Happy Birthday. Hoping 2025 treats you well.
I lost two friends recently. It’s sad.
But grateful for the good things.
Jenn says
take care of that hip for sure!
2024 was ok. Like you, we’ve been navigating a lot of “things” and it’s really put a cramp in my normally positive, cup half full outlook. Maybe 2025 will be better? Who knows.
That being said, we did have a lot of travel and fun things, and that’s so important.
You’re going to have a great holiday AND birthday week!

Oh Marcia, I’m so sorry for your recent loss. I’d have to agree that 2024 has been a year of many challenges in my world as well. One day at a time, and keeping the glass half full have worked wonders for me. Thinking of you, and hoping the busy season rewards you with some peace and wonderful time spent with your family.

We’ve had a decent 2024 over here so I’m feeling a lot of gratitude. Even the hubs surgery was just a hiccup in the road. I’m hoping 2025 brings a lot of good your way. Happy birthday Marcia! I would love to see you sometime.

Aw, I’ll bet you can’t wait to have both kids home! It’s so hard when they leave, but the upside is the holidays seem even more festive when they come back.
Glad your hip is feeling better. And- hoping 2025 treats you a little better than 2024 did.

I had some pretty low lows in 2024 and a lot to celebrate too. Losing anyone is hard, especially ones so close to us. I’m sorry for your loss. I hope 2025 is better for you and your family! Happy birthday!!
