Well here we are. The gang is all here enjoying a glorious Thanksgiving break. Before we catapult to the FINAL month of 2024, it’s time to sit down a sec, let Thanksgiving dinner digest and while we’re at it, share some Runfessions too. In my case I’m sharing some Turkeyfessions, because turkey prep has been….up…shall we say…interesting. Ready to get started?
Turkeyfessions
I turkeyfess I cut corners this year and got a frozen turkey. Let the record show it spent 3 days supposedly defrosting in the fridge. However when I went to immerse it in the brine on Thanksgiving Eve, it was still quite solid. So solid in fact, that when I went to pull the bag of giblets that reside inside the carcass, I had to pull so hard the bag tore, leaving the giblets frozen inside. I turkeyfess again, that I proceeded to immerse said frozen turkey carcass with torn giblet bag still inside, in the brine. It’ll come out easier when everything is thawed, right? And I won’t forget to remove it….right? I won’t.
I told you in my last post how delighted I am to have both of my kiddos home this week. We’ve been doing all the fun things, going to all the fun places, eating way too much delicious food, staying up way too late and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
All that said, I runfess that my Lumen Metabolism Tracker has been telling me an inconvenient truth pretty much every morning lately.
The goal is to wake up in “fat burn”, which is indicated by getting a blue or aqua tile when I wake each morning. As you can see, there’s no blue or aqua to be found on my Lumen dashboard, no thanks to all the food, all the work stress and nowhere near enough sleep. All that said, Lumen really is a valuable tool and I WILL get back on track…next week. Right now, Lumen is having their biggest sale ever. Check it out
I told you last time I runfessed, that I’d been doing some of the Peloton workouts that are in German. Now I’ll have to runfess that lately I actually ran while listening to a Peloton WALK. Matt Wilpers had a guest on discussing Metabolic Health during the walk so I learned while I ran. All good.
What have you to runfess? Did you do a Turkey Trot? Did you host Thanksgiving? Score any Black Friday deals?

Happy Thanksgiving, Marcia! Enjoy your girls while they’re home! Ugh on the turkey issues. My biggest turkey mishap happened years ago when I stupidly dumped the turkey brine in the sink and then turned on the garbage disposal. There were so many chunky spices in the water that it stopped the sink up and when I turned the disposal on the pipes underneath the sink vibrated so much that one came loose and turkey juice flooded my sink cabinet. What a mess!
This was the first time in 13 years that I didn’t run in a turkey trot. We usually host Thanksgiving, but didn’t this year or last.

Happy Thanksgiving:-) I hosted and trotted. bi have to turkeyfess my sister brought a pot roast, so our Thanksgiving was tutkeyless (for the first time that I can remember).

Hah! Well, I turkeyess I didn’t realize there were TWO bags of giblets I was supposed to dig out. At least we were only filling the cavity with onions and oranges we had no plans to eat.
I runfess dietary ignorance can be bliss this time of year!
Glad you are enjoying having your girls around.
Darlene Cardillo says
Dietary ignorance is bliss. That’s my story.
FOMO yesterday. But I wimped out. Cold rain and snow.
We had take out turkey dinner at mil. Easy peasy.
Enjoy your family time.
Catrina says
Ha, just throw the Lumen in a corner and start again on Monday.
I didn’t know about the giblet-thingy in turkeys. Another thing learnt! I guess many people would also feed them to their pets if they don’t use it to cook?
Enjoy the family!
Michelle says
Happy Thanksgiving Marcia! Lucky for me my brother usually hosts Thanksgiving so I haven’t had to deal with a turkey and the giblets thing in years…just bring the stuffling.
Have so much fun with the girls being home!
And you’ve reminded me I should probably dig my Lumen out of the drawer…but maybe I’ll wait until after the holidays 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Happy Thanksgiving to you! Enjoy having everyone home! I have also eaten way off of my normal diet for weeks. I am ok with it. Life is for enjoying! Next week I will get back on plan
Jenn says
I hope you had the most wonderful Thanksgiving!
I confess that i don’t touch the turkey. That’s Mr PugRunner’s job – he manages it, he brines it, and he smokes it on the Big Green Egg. My mom takes the giblets and all the parts I don’t consider edible, and it all works out great.
I don’t worry about carbs on holidays!
Yes, I trotted, and yes we hosted. Both were wonderful.

Whatever Lumen says, doesn’t count this week. It was Thanksgiving LOL
