It is that time once again: Time to sit down and catch up with Deborah, Coco and you. I’m enjoying my coffee in a newly acquired Hokie coffee mug, snagged on our Homecoming week at Virginia Tech
Over coffee I’d tell you the mug shown above comes with a bit of a story attached to it. Starbucks makes an “official” Virginia Tech coffee mug, which I of course I had to have. They are however, a bit of a challenge to procure. So to increase my chances I located all the Starbuck within a 5 mile radius of Virginia Tech, called each of them inquiring about said mug. Not a single Starbucks store had one when I called, but they did share the days on which they received shipments. When we arrived on campus one of our first orders of business was to check a nearby Starbucks for the mug, sadly to no avail. We were literally en route to dropping Thing 2 back at her dorm before heading out of town when the Caveman of all people decided we should grab coffee first. It was that final Starbucks that had the coveted mug. All that said, the mug shown above is a “consolation” one I bought at the campus bookstore. So now I have 2…well actually 3. I am hopeless!
All that said about the mug, we did have an amazing long weekend visiting our girls. It was so good for this mama’s soul to get away and enjoy some family time with great football along with my first Enter Sandman experience, plenty of great food and gorgeous fall colors.
Over coffee I’d tell you I came SO close to hitting a deer the other day. I was heading to work during a busy rush hour when a giant buck darted out into traffic. He got to the left lane of a 4-lane highway before startling and deciding to reverse course to go back to where he came. I came to a very abrupt stop and was close enough to see the terror in his eyes. When he realized I was stopped, he raced across the entire highway, thankfully making it safely to the other side. It was alarming to say the very least. Thank heavens I did not hit him!
Over coffee I’d ask if you voted yet. I voted earlier this week and had about a 15 minute wait. Honestly I’m staying away from all the media coverage. It’s all so stressful and I don’t need it.
What would you tell me over coffee? How was Halloween?

It looks like you had a great weekend at Va. Tech! I’m glad you finally found your mug — hooray for Caveman!
Yikes on the deer. I’ve only had a close call driving once, and it wasn’t that close.
I’m in Florida for the weekend and “enjoying” a whole different batch of ads — mostly for referenda.

I did vote early.
I share your mug possession. Unfortunately some of my older ones have broken in the dishwasher (one from Burgundy France 🙁 )
I have hit a deer but there are so many on the roads these days.

It looks like you had a fun weekend at VA tech. Hope you will swing through DC on one of your visits. I was into collecting the Starbucks mugs a few years back but lost interest. In fact, I realized, I don’t like their coffee so I will choose other options if available. We have so many deer around here it’s gotten so crazy!
Jenny says
Oh yes, I voted!!!!
Glad you didn’t hit the deer- for your sake and his. That can be dangerous.
i love the mug story, because that’s exactly the kind of thing I would do. As a matter of fact I’m kind of mad I didn’t know about these “specialty” Starbucks mugs- I wonder if there’s a Baylor one??? I’ll have to look into this!

So glad you had a great weekend with your girls! I think your “consolation” mug is cute 🙂
Yikes about the deer – amazing that he was on the highway and wasn’t hit!
I voted yesterday and am now just bracing myself for the days to come.

Yes, I voted. And I worked three shifts of early voting, and I will be working on Tuesday. I’m really nervous about it – people have been… unpredictable and angry. Wish me luck?
I’m so glad you didn’t hit that deer! We just had a deer incident this year and it was rough!

Wow, that was a close call on the near hit with the deer! Glad that all played out for you and the wayward dear. I absentee voted two week ago, so I’m ignoring all the political banter (in person, and elsewhere) now. It IS really annoying to listen to. Glad you had a nice time on your trip, and nice score on all the new coffee mugs.

I actually had to look at that photo of your daughters twice, because I wasn’t sure if Thing 1 was you! She is an absolute copy of you – it’s quite amazing.
So nice that you could spend a weekend together!
And thanks for the link about “Enter Sandman”. Another thing learnt! 😅

That was a cool video to watch! The song reminded me of college. The deer experience would have freaked me out. I am glad you and the deer are okay.

I have been looking for that VT Starbucks mug for a friend during our trips through the Blacksburg area this fall, but to no avail. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll let her know how difficult it is to find.
The only thing better than the Enter Sandman entrance you experienced is seeing it at night when fireworks go off over the scoreboard at the end. I get chills just thinking about it. 🙂

I’m glad you got to spend time with your family + that you managed to get that mug! I tried looking to see if my college had one, but alas, haha.
I used to be so worried about hitting deer when I was living in WV — I do still see some in California, but definitely way less. Glad you’re both okay!
