Well hello fall! Another summer is here and gone. Summer always fades away too fast, in my opinion. But autumn is the very finest of the seasons, especially for running, so I am here for it.
Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Sunday: 45-min. Run in Piedmont Park, Atlanta
Monday: Travel Day, home from Atlanta
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body Strength + Core
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 5 miles
Friday: Walk 4 miles, 30 mins. Bike hills and sprints
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Full Body heavy strength
I just wrapped up week 2 of a heavy-strength cycle and all is well so far. Muscle memory for the win!
Why Aren’t the Birds Singing Anymore?
The little guy in the foreground was busy burying nuts in my flower pots.
The final week of summer was all about settling in and getting back to the grind after enjoying time in Atlanta, visiting daughter #1. I had a very nice run through Piedmont park and I failed to capture any pics. My bad.
It was great to visit her, tour her new place, and take in a Georgia Tech football WIN too. Plenty of fun was had!
We got home to find that although the daylight is fading quickly, the summer-like heat is is still going strong. Chicago-area weather has been sunny, hot and dry and I won’t dare complain. Winter is way too long in these parts.
So about those birds. I noticed an unusual silence one morning as I sat in the garden with my coffee. I noticed it again in the evening. No birdsong and no drone of cicadas either. According to Google, the birds go silent in late summer, because they are not looking for a mate and are busy caring for their young. Who knew? Not I.
Runfession Friday Linkup
It’s that time again. I know, I can’t believe it either. But join me right hear this Friday. I promise it’s the best way to wrap up another month.
How was your week? Any fall colors happening in your area? Are you a college football fan?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I noticed that silence last week when I was in the woods! Well, except for the blue jays. They are always screaming, lol. But other than that, yes, it was very quiet!
Your trip to Atlanta looks fun!

So interesting- our birds have been out especially the blue jays and robins. I have an app I use to identify which birds are out by their birdsong– it is so fun to use!

That’s really interesting about the birdsong, I didn’t know that. And I love birds 🙂 Thanks for sharing, learn something new every day!

Ooh, sounds like a fun week! How cool that you went to a football game. I have not gotten a chance to see a single Baylor game in person. You had a nice mix of running and strength this week- i’m impressed (and intimidated) by this heavy strength cycle of yours.
I’m getting my runfessions ready!

You probably know I’m a huge college football fan 😉 I’ve gotten to two games so far this season, one for my Hawks (last weekend) and one for Iowa State (our big inner-state rival, LOL, a couple weeks ago). I’m hoping to get to another game, or two, yet this fall. Not much for color changes yet. but I’m seeing a lot of leaves on the trails…

I was a bird fanatic as a kid and even started writing my own “ornithology book”, with hand-drawn pictures and all. Just the other day I noticed how quiet our local sparrows are and I remembered that they don’t chirp as much after spring and summer.
So glad you could visit Thing 1! I bet she was happy to see you, too!

I miss the college football games. Always so much energy and fun !

We also had a college visit and football game! It was a fun glimpse into campus life.

Look at that sweet squirrel! I love him!
That’s interesting about birdsong. I’m not a bird person, so I don’t notice too much. There is definitely still a lot of cricket chirping, which I don’t love, but that’s Florida.
So glad your daughter is settled at school! What an exciting year for her!

who knew? I didn’t notice. Now I will give it a listen.
I love the fall colors but definitely not enjoying the early darkness.
Did you change your hair color? Or haven’t I been observant?
