Like it or not, time keeps slipping, slipping, slipping…into the future. It’s time once again to open up the Runfessional before we bid August farewell and welcome in September. It’s always a good idea to start a new month with a clean soul…and soles. Ready to get started?
Who Moved My Trail?
You know I love my trails. They’re my peace, my tranquility, my sanity. For a few weeks in the heat of the summer I took my running to the treadmill to escape the humidity. While I was running indoors, who knew “MY” trail was being reconfigured? Not I. When I got back out there, I realized my trail had been rerouted in a few spots. One can surmise it was done to remedy some serious erosion issues. The parts of the trail that no longer exist were a couple of decent climbs and one gloriously gorgeous descent. That descent was, in my opinion, the most beautiful part of the trail. Alas it is no longer. The “old” trail has been blocked off with cut-down trees and brush and a “new” trail has been cut. The new trail, while not entirely flat, is much less hilly, ergo will likely suffer less erosion. All said and done, the new trail is about .15 shorter than it once was. I runfess that I think this trail reroute is sort of a metaphor for my life lately. With college drop-off and the hubby’s “medical event” this summer, life has definitely taken some unsuspected twists and turns that have left me regrouping.

I runfess I am very quietly super happy that Thing 2 packed a shiny new pair of running shoes in her bag when she headed off to college. She’s been running up to 7 miles a few times a week all summer. Visions of her and her new friends clocking some miles around the campus duckpond (shown above) dance in my head. And maybe mom will join her for a spin around that duckpond when she visits in October.
And finally, as much as I try to be in a constant state of declutter, I runfess I found yet another running tank I bought quite awhile ago still sitting with tags on, unworn. Clearly I did not need it. When will I ever learn?
Ok your turn: What have you to runfess? Any Labor Day weekend plans?
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Our trail has also undergone some Reno but in a good way. It’s like having a new but familiar trail. Hope things have started to calm down for you all. I also need to redo my closet and get rid of things. It’s a never ending process for sure

As big of a PIA my recent move was, it forced me to do all kinds of much-procrastinated purging. I often sit back and think of all the stuff that is no longer (donated AND trashed, LOL), and it’s such a relief to have that ordeal over and done. That’s exciting Thing-2 is following her mom’s example with the running shoes!

Lake County FPD sure likes to redo their trails! They reworked Buffalo Creek a few years ago, removing most of the trees in the process. I’m not a fan of the new iteration and run there very infrequently. People seem to love it tho.
Glad to hear that you are rolling with the changes. Empty nesting is not easy.

So I guess you made it through the college drop off! I like the visions of you and your daughter running around the duck pond- October will be here before you know it!
I would be SUPER upset if someone changed my trail! I don’t think my trail is as pretty as yours to begin with, but I still have my favorite parts. Well, we have to roll with the punches, don’t we? I hope your husband is okay.

So great that J packed her running shoes! I hope you get to do that run in October 🙂

I can relate to that tank top story – lots of new and unworn items for running in my closet at the moment!
Exciting about Thing 2 bringing her running to college. How’s the empty nest??

I hope there are not any more twists and turns coming up.
Lately I’ve been shopping in my closet. I’ve found things that I don’t even remember buying. Cheaper than online shopping.

I hope your husband’s “medical event” is on the mend!
Just as well you didn’t travel to Switzerland this summer.
Your daughter is developing into a runner! Up to 7 miles a few times per week – she’ll be soon preparing for her first half-marathon!
October is just around the corner – you’ll be running around that duck pond soon!

Wow on the new trail. That would take some getting used to. Construction at my neighborhood school is done, so I can run around the building again, but I do thing the grade on one hill is different — easier!
Glad college drop off went well. I do hope she fits some running in.

Checking in late but that’s crazy about your trail! How did that happen?
I love that your daughter brought her running shoes!
