Summer is zipping right on by in its usual fashion. Before we know it, kids will be heading back to school. Let’s sit down for a quick catch-up session over a cup of something nice. I’m joining Deborah, Coco and you for the Ultimate Coffee Date.
August Coffee: Heading Back to School
Over coffee I’d tell you we are just a couple of short weeks away from the big college drop-off. I won’t lie, I’ve already gotten weepy about it.
Over coffee I’d ask how the weather is treating you in your neck of the woods. It’s been a plenty-hot summer here and I have to say I’m not sad about that. The heat, humidity and frequent storms have been amazing for the garden and it’s been a banner year for my tomatoes, peppers, herbs and flowers.
Over coffee I’d ask you if you are enjoying the Olympic Games. I am a huge fan and I adored when the men’s gymnastics team trotted out Stephen Nedoroscik to work his magic on the pommel horse. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and teamwork most definitely made the dream work! I’d also tell you that Thing 1 went to high school with Paul Juda. It was so much fun to watch him compete.
Over coffee I’d ask you if you have any travel coming up. This was our “summer of staying home”, however we are looking forward to some quick trips in September and October.
That’s about it from here. What would you tell me over coffee?
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

I’m looking forward to catching my breath in August after a hectic July and before a hectic September and October. With our weather, there’s no choice but to take it easy!
How cool to know an Olympian! A daughter of someone at work is on the fencing team, but wasn’t on TV.
Jenny says
Oh wow your daughter went to school with Paul Juda! I was excited that he’s from Deerfield (I grew up in Highland Park.) And I loved seeing the men win their gymnastics medal. And the women of course- but we expected that.
I was just commenting on Michelle’s post about how hard the college drop off is. I’ll be dropping my son off for his senior year, but I still get weepy thinking about the day I dropped him off as a freshman. Good luck with it…
Deborah Brooks says
My September is going to be super busy so I am just coasting through August (or sweating). Ah the last college drop off! Hope you will swing through DC one of these visits. Love to give you a run tour xoxo
Michelle says
I’m right there with you on the impending big drop-off – I am so not ready! Hope all goes smoothly for you!
How cool about Paul Juda! I loved watching the men’s team cheer each other on – Fred Richard is from the next town over from me and Stephen Nedoroscik is from Worchester, MA – so local media has been going crazy for the hometown boys!

The weather is not great here. I’m hoping the rain will stop soon…
I’m absolutely loving the games and heading to Paris next week Friday so that we can catch the marathons in the weekend! I can’t wait!!! My former neighbor is running the marathon on the Dutch team and we are going to support her (at least that’s the main focus, but we have tickets to the Urban project as well on Saturday).
I am travelling in November, back to Spain to see my parents. I wasn’t going to go, but dad’s not doing really well so I need to take every chance I get. Otherwise no summer hols – we are renovating and doing a few weekends here and there. Maybe next year we can have a proper holiday again.
Catrina says
It’s strange, but Switzerland has been having the wettest and coolest summer ever. It’s good for nature, everything is so green and beautiful.
And good for running of course!
I always wonder why people travel in the heat of summer. September and October sound so much better to me! Enjoy!

The mens gymnastics team final was spectacular! I agree, it was the definition Teamwork:101. I hope the college drop-off goes smoothly. It’s such a bittersweet thing for us moms…
Cari says
How cool with the Paul Juda collection. I’m neither a summer weather nor an olympics person. Still love me? 😀
Zenaida Arroyo says
I had to look up Paul Juda. I haven’t watched the Olympic Games but plan to watch track and field. No travel for me – back to work this month.
Jenn says
We love Pommel Horse Guy!
Caleb Dressel goes to the private school up the street. It’s cool when you see local athletes on the world stage.
Hugs to you. I know that college drop off with be tough.
Darlene S Cardillo says
I’m so sad that the Olympics are ending today!
I’ve loved every minute… esp track and field.
Boy the summer had gone fast… and so hot!!
Good luck with the college prep and drop off.
