Well hello SPRING? While spring here so far has been a little, shall we say, more wintery than I’d like, it is spring all the same and I am here for it. Well actually no I’m away on spring break, enjoying some sunshine and Vitamin Sea. But it is Runfession Friday after all, so welcome to a special Spring Break Edition of Runfessions. Ready? Let’s go!
Before I even get started I have to runfess that the pic above is not from our current spring break. We are not in Bermuda nor am I racing. The pic is from ZOOMA Bermuda (may that race series rest in peace) circa 2020, right before the world shut down thanks to Covid.
I runfess that recently I came very close to being caught in the act taking fake running pics (FRPs). No sooner than I removed the resistance band that I wrap around random trees to hold my phone, two hikers approached. Phew!
It’s no secret I’ve been hitting the weights pretty hard here lately, as I let my lungs continue to heal from a bout with pneumonia. I’ve shared my exploits with the bench press on multiple occasions. I runfess that last week, I had a mishap that could have gone very VERY wrong. Thankfully it did not. Somehow, and I’ll blame The Pioneer Woman for distracting me with a recipe of some kind, I failed to put equal weight on each side of the bar. When I lifted the bar from the rack it felt a little wonky so I put it down and readjusted the bench. When I lifted again, the bar was still QUITE wonky and I had to really strain to push it back up and on the rack. Visions of that bar crashing down and hitting me in the face danced perilously in my head. I’ve mentioned here before that I’m at the point where I need a spotter on some of the heavier lifts. Let the record show this was not the case here. I was lifting “only” 85 pounds, but I managed to short the left side of the bar by 10 pounds. There’s a mistake I won’t be making again.
Okay you’re turn! What have you to runfess?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

I ve thought about switching to a barbell bc the dumbbells are getting too cumbersome. I would probably end up finding one way to injure myself! People see me taking photos all the time -No shame! Enjoy your warm weather

Ouch! That could have had a bad ending with the barbell! Glad you’re enjoying a warm getaway; perfect time to escape outta these winter feels-like conditions:-)

Imagine having 85 pounds crashing down on your face!
I can see how you will need to engage Caveman as spotter soon.
Come to think of it, I don’t think I could press 50 pounds, let alone 85. Well done!!

Yikes! I’m glad that gym mishap didn’t go horribly bad! I crushed my fingers with just a 20 lb weight before — they took weeks to recover!
Enjoy your spring break!

I’ve never done that with bench press, but I did it once with deadlifts. I couldn’t figure out why it felt so uneven, and completed the whole set before I figured it out. Luckily not as dangerous as a benchpress mishap would have been, although I guess I could have wrenched my back. Glad you’re okay!
A resistance band wrapped around a tree is a brilliant way to take a FRP! I never thought of that.
Enjoy your vacation!!!!!

“Only” 85 – still good to have a spotter! Be careful!
I saw someone recommend using a face mask for a phone holder. Genius. No biggie on getting caught but you could have also asked them to take your photo! I’ve done that when caught in the act!
Michelle says
Wowza on that weight situation – glad it ended well! And, nice job on your progress on the heavy lifts!
I get busted taking runfies all the time lol.
Enjoy your time away!

Holy moly! That’s so scary! I am terrified of the barbell for that reason. No more recipes for you, ma’am! Clearly that’s the only way to solve the issue.
I don’t mind the cooler spring. It is so hot here for so long. It’s nice to have a break.
I am always snapping stealth photos. I wonder what people think when they see me doing it.
