This was the week I finally made a tentative return to running after spending most of the year with pneumonia. Here’s how the workouts went:
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Strength, Sauna
Monday: Walk 4 miles, 20 mins Bike hills & sprints, Core
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, very early work day + late work event
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Treadmill run/walk intervals, Strength, Core, another late work event
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, 30 mins Bike, Core, Sauna
Friday: Walk 4 miles, rest
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Treadmill run/walk Intervals, Strength
A Tentative Return to Running
While we continue to do our walks outside, the doc advised against running in cold air so I ran on the treadmill and, while it wasn’t much, it’s a start. I had some mild tightness in my achilles/lower calves afterward.
Progress on the bench press continues. The week I got back over 100# for the win. Someone asked me what negatives are. They’re when you press up fast and lower down slow. I like to pause halfway down for an extra burn.
1×25 reps @45lbs
1×12 reps @65lbs
1×12 reps @85lbs
1×10 reps @95lbs
1×8 reps @105lbs
1×25 negatives @45lbs as a finisher
Except for these beautiful flowers, Valentine’s Day pretty much did not happen here this year. I put together fun care packages for my girls but I can’t lie, dealing with my mom’s health issues + work stress + minimal running = not the greatest frame of mind.

It’s that time again! Join me right here this Friday!
How was your week? Did you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Did winter return where you are?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!
Melissa says
Yay for getting back to running! You are smart to start slow and I’ll bet you’ll be back in no time. Sorry for the stress of everything plus not working out — hope you’re back in a better frame of mind soon!
Deborah Brooks says
So glad to read that you are feeling better and ready to start to return to running. Slow and steady is the way to go. Thinking of you and your family.
Coco says
I’m glad you are starting to feel better. I’m a fan of the treadmill for rehab — it’s easier for me to stick with my plan.
I hope your Mom is doing OK.
Melodie says
That is great you are beginning to run again. I know you are so glad about that! Your pictures are so beautiful. Hopefully you will be back to your normal running schedule very soon!
Kimberly Hatting says
Thinking of you, Marcia. I hope your mom is doing alright, despite her condition. Glad to hear the running is returning. Hugs to you <3
Debbie says
It’s good to hear that you’re running again, even if you’re having to keep it inside for now.
I’m sorry to hear that things are continuing to be so tough with your mom. I’m sure your daughters appreciated their Valentine’s care packages!
Catrina says
YAY for a comeback! So happy for you, Marcia!
8 presses at 105lbs… that’s mind-boggling. Well done!
Is that little bridge, lake and gazebo a part of a park in your neighbourhood? It looks amazing!
Jessie says
I’m sorry its been so stressful. I am thinking of you and your mom. That’s really difficult, I’ve been through it. Sending you strength Marcia.
Susanne says
I’m so happy to hear you’re back to running! Although it’s still on the treadmill only, it’s a comeback! And great work with your bench presses too. Do you do all those sets in one session? Very well done!
Sending hugs to you and hope things will get better soon.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I hope things get better all around for you. It can be very stressful. We had more Valentine’s celebrations in year’s past for sure. My kids both have a boyfriend/girlfriend so I figured they had their bases covered and I didn’t get them anything for Valentines. Luckily my husband bought candy for both of us. I was a slacker this year!
Liz Dexter says
I didnt know about the pneumonia or the family issues as I’ve skipped a few sets of running posts (I’m still so behind but starting at the newest stuff for a bit!). I am glad to hear you’re feeling able to run again now.
Wendy says
I’m glad that you are able to ease back into running. It truly is such a stress reliever. I hope things ease up for you.
Jenny says
I was the one who asked about the negatives- that makes sense. I’ll try it! Of course pull up negatives is how I hurt my arm… but why not try again???!
Glad you’re getting back to running! You’re doing it the right way- before you know it you’ll be back to normal. And, I’m not much for Valentine’s Day either- it’s on my list of least-favorite holidays!
Jenn says
I’m glad you were able to run, but I’m sorry you are dealing with so many external pressures. We are here if you need us.
We had a low key Valentine’s Day. It was fun, but Wednesdays are hard.
Cari says
Big hugs on all the things. No reason to add one more to a to do.
Congratulations on the bench milestone and yay a relatively painless reentry to running
