January you were a cruel start to the New Year and I’m glad to usher you out in just a few short days. Before we welcome February, the month of love, it’s time to open the Runfessional for some NoSpenduary Runfessions. It’s always a good idea to start a new month with a clean slate. What is NoSpenduary you ask? Read on!
NoSpenduary Runfessions
While Dry January is a popular goal at this time of year, as a non-drinker I like to challenge myself to not spend money on “nonessentials”. No shoes, clothing, workout gear, gym equipment or accessories, makeup, you get the gist. Last year this effort was a total failure and I ended up spending money like crazy (after-Christmas sales anyone?) I runfess this year’s effort has been successful so far, and with a handful of days left to the month, I’m feeling pretty confident I can succeed. Like anything else, the longer you go, the easier it becomes to stay strong.
I runfess my actual running this month has been at a bare minimum. Heck even vacuuming challenges my compromised lung capacity these days. I’m looking at you pneumonia. The comeback (whenever that may happen) will be stronger than the setback, right? That said, my focus has been on stretching and yoga and that is not a bad thing.
While I’ve been mostly absent on social media lately I did notice that Instagram now gives me a list of “potential” spam accounts. This is great, except upon further investigation, I runfess I realized that many of these “spam” accounts are legit. I have a better idea: Why can’t Instagram just remove the spam accounts entirely? Divorced military surgeons and Forex traders would be a great starting point
Ok your turn: What have you to runfess? Did you set a January goal or participate in a challenge?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Well, I am not good at not buying things with all the sales going on. I do admire you for having will power with that. I have only had a half of a glass of wine this month though so I almost did dry January. Progress! I hope you start to feel back to yourself soon and get to be back doing what you love, Thanks for the link up

My big goal, if you will, is to cut sugar (cut, not eliminate, LOL). There’s a candy dish within arm’s reach at my work desk, and I have kept my hands clean. I even shunned a co-worker’s birthday donuts this morning. These are baby steps thus far, but feel pretty significant given my sweet tooth. I hope you’re feeling better with each passing day, Marcia. I agree…Insta needs to get rid of all those spam accounts!

I hope you continue to recover from your pneumonia and are back to your normal workouts in no time. Congrats on your no-shopping January success!

Congrats. What a great goal.
When it’s too cold outside or rainy I walk in the mall. Last night I almost bought leggings but no I put them back. But I can’t say my online shopping has stopped.
Hope we both get back to 100% so we can do what makes us happy and healthy.

I’m still focusing on my hamstring as my main goal, but also reining in my sloppy eating. Definitely a case of progress, not perfection there.
I really hope your lungs clear up soon!

No spend January sounds hard!!! I also love those after-Christmas sales. Congrats on doing it successfully (I think I would have to pick a different month to do a no-spend.) And, I hope you feel better soon. Yes, the comeback will be strong!
JENN says
No spenduary is a no go over here lol! We need a new washing machine, which means I am redoing the whole (small) laundry room. Oops.
I’m sorry the start of your year was so rough. Here’s to better days!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Oh no! I didn’t realize you had pneumonia. I hope you’re back on track soon!
I did an OK job of not buying everything on sale this month. I got a payment in Paypal for a campaign I did and kind of used that as “mad money” for buying some sale things I wanted. We did no holiday gifting of any kind this year so I felt like I “deserved it.” LOL
I keep getting these weird fake accounts telling me my blog account page will be deleted on Facebook. Um. OK

Ugh, sorry to hear about your pneumonia. Hugs & feel better plus you’re doing the right thing.
Apparently the universe really doesn’t want me to run right now either (and no, no blog from me today).
Feel better & take it easy. You’re going through a lot.

Nice job, Marcia!
Not buying stuff makes so much sense: more time, more money, less clutter, less environmental impact.
I only buy stuff when I really, really need it and even then I usually wait for a sale.
Getting off the consumer-bandwagon has been very liberating for me.
But there’s one goal I would still like to reach: become a non-drinker like you. It’s such an ingrained, unnecessary habit and I really would love to get away from it.
Michelle says
I definitely failed on a no-spend January – but it’s been mostly renovation-related so perhaps that doesn’t count lol
I’m so sorry you are dealing with pneumonia – I know things have been stressful for you so I hope you’re getting the rest you need to come back strong. Sending hugs!

I love the idea of a No Spenduary! I hope you heal quickly from this pneumonia and can get back to your regular routine! But it can’t hurt that you are doing more stretching and yoga! Will definitely help when you start getting back to your “normal,”

So much spam.
A friend and I were talking about no spend over dinner. The books would do me in, but I don’t think I’ve bought much besides food and travel. NYRR helping me — registration opens Feb 1.
Hugs my friend

Sorry about pneumonia. I hope you get well soon. I remember I suffered it in 1977, one month later I joined the Navy: it was hard because the doctor in the Academy, at first, didn’t understand what kind of illness was.
January goal: to increase the mileage.
All the best.
