Welp, here we are. Wrapping up the fastest year ever. They seem to fly by faster and faster, am I right? Before we bid 2023 farewell, let’s open the runfessional one last time for some Winter Runfessions.
Winter Runfessions
I runfess I am so looking forward to the day my Runners World magazine subscription finally ends. I haven’t paid for it in years and yet, it keeps on coming. Recently though there are indications that it may be coming to an end. I got a notice that if I renewed (for the annual price of $21.95), I’d be able to gift two subscriptions for free. Such a deal.

Maybe they’d get more subscribers if they brought back covers like this one above from 1996.
I paged through my most recent copy and noticed it’s only published 4x/year now. Maybe it should just go away entirely, just saying.
Looks like that poor turkey trot medal never made it out of its packaging
I runfess I ran exactly zero races this year. Is this even a running blog anymore? Hardly. I also runfess I finally boxed up about 50 old race medals and shipped them off to Medals 4 Mettle, a charity that distributes donated race medals to kids and adults fighting debilitating diseases and illnesses. I guess you could say my Swedish Death Cleaning is underway. Ha!
And finally, contrary to my original plan, I runfess I did not cancel the Peloton app after all…yet. I guess I love Matt Wilpers too much to cancel.
Ok your turn: What have you to runfess?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

I tried to cancel my paper newspaper subscription, but they slashed the price so it was less than the digital-only version — they must still sell ads based on # of paper subs.
I ran two races in 2023 — both in April. I’m not sure about 2024 ….
Good for you for shipping off your medals. I was jut thinking I need to do something with my old race Ts or donate them. Do people still make those t-shirt quilts anymore?

I do still get runner’s world in the mail but it’s so disappointing now. It’s all ads. I also originally paid for the digital content but then cold never log into it. I o miss magazines how they used to be!

I’ll be interested to hear if they finally stop sending you the magazine! Remember waaaaay back in the day- before we had all the online content- how exciting it was to get your Runner’s World in the mail? I wonder if anyone still really reads it anymore.
I want to donate my old medals! i just didn’t know where to do it. I’ll look up the one you mentioned- thanks.

I had a heck of a time canceling my RW subscription. It kept auto renewing, and I kept trying to end it. Finally, it stopped showing up in my mailbox, so end of story. I stayed with Peloton as well, and paid for the full year upfront, though I’m not happy with the limitations on the cycling workouts (not sure if I want to upgrade my membership for all access, since it’s just the cycling I’d want to keep).

I have no idea if I pay for Runners World! LOL.
I need that Medals 4 Mettle address. I have a huge bag b/c I still run all of the races and the medals keep getting bigger and bigger!
Happy belated b-day and new year, Marcia!

I still get that magazine too. I keep hoping it will be more than shoe reviews.
I was tempted to get another 60 day Peloton trial… still nope.
I do have ALL my medals.
I want to keep my marathon and half ones but those others – esp age group awards.. they can go!!!

I have a hard time with paper media. It’s supposed to be so current, but by the time you get your hands on it, it’s already old and outdated. Cool that we have so much access to information in the moment, but sad for newspapers and magazines.
For me, it was a long year. We had a lot going on, especially earlier, and things dragged out a bit.

I’m still getting Women’s Running from some promo I did with them years ago – like you I’m waiting for someone to finally realize I’m not paying for it.
What a great idea to donate your medals – I need to look into that. However, this year there was very little added to the bling collection as I only ran one race back in May. Who knows if there will be any in 2024.

I finally stopped getting Runner’s World a few years ago–thankfully. Maybe they read that blog post I wrote a while back and blacklisted me, lol. I don’t mind.
I donated some medals a few years ago–not sure where–but I had all those virtual medals and medals that weren’t meaningful. The ones I have left I am hanging on to! I am eying a couple of races for this year–stay tuned!

Yay for Swedish Death Cleaning! It feels nice to get rid of clutter, doesn’t it?
The other day I was at a race and they were handing out medals. I declined it and I felt how the poor volunteer was quite offended. He said it was a “special jubilee medal”… I ended up taking it.
I’m glad we have a little girl in our neighbourhood who loves medals!

I stopped a couple of years ago to get sport magazines. However I don’t like to read the digital ones: yes, I am old and how many elderly people I prefer to read the paper media.
My running medals? Now they are my grandson’s medals!
Happy new year.
