Here we are in November already. I say it often, where do these months go? It’s time to sit down for a sec with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch up sesh, because, like it or not, the holiday season is upon us. Have you started shopping? I have not.
November Coffee Date
Over coffee I’d ask you about your Thanksgiving plans. It’s the in-laws’ turn to host, so I am not cooking this year. Our older daughter will be in from Atlanta, spending the entire week with us so color me excited for that!
Over coffee I’d tell you we’re celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this month. We’ll be heading out on a little getaway and I can’t wait!
Lululemon’s Seawheeze was probably the most beautiful half marathon I’ve ever done, despite the rain.
Over coffee I’d tell you I got a promotion at work. It’s kind of big (to me anyway) and definitely out of my comfy zone right now. I spent last week training at “the mothership” aka Lulu Vancouver. Never in my wildest when I ran the Seawheeze Half Marathon back in 2018, and the course circled around the Lulu HQ, did I ever think I’d actually WORK there. I won’t lie: there’s part of me saying “Marcia you’re 60. What are you doing?” Honestly I’m not entirely sure but for now it’s a fun ride.
Many of you asked about where Thing 2 might be headed to college next year so over coffee I’ll give you an update on that. Her college applications are out. She applied early action to all of the schools that interested her. I believe the earliest she’ll hear anything is in mid-December, however one school already deferred her. I have no experience with deferrals so I had to do some research. Basically this school pushed her application to regular decision so she won’t be considered for admission until March. While it’s not a rejection, and this particular school does not rank high on her wish list, it did shake her confidence. Her thoughts went down the “what if I don’t get in anywhere” rabbit hole. The college process is stressful and so much more competitive than back in the day when I went through it.
Since writing the above paragraph, she’s been accepted to another school with the bonus of a very large scholarship. This school is not in her top 3 either, but even if she gets in nowhere else, she’s got a great option on the table. It’s funny how things work.
What would you tell me over coffee?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Congrats on the promotion. I’m sure you deserve it. 60 sounds young to me. Lol.
Our 25th is in January. But no big plans. Just staying healthy.
Where does your want to go? Hope it’s a fun place to visit.

Huge congrats on the promotion. I’d say what you are doing is excelling and inspiring others! It is crazy how life (And hard work) takes you places you might have never even dreamed of.
Ah, the roller coaster of college admissions. Glad the acceptance will keep her out of the abyss of stress. Fingers crossed she gets accepted to a top choice.
I have no idea what we are doing for Thanksgiving. I need to check with my son ….

Congrats on your promotion! I would love to hear more about what you will be doing! Tell us! Vancouver is a gorgeous city and a fun place to run. I never got to do the race but did a running tour there
Michelle says
Congrats on your promotion! Can’t wait to hear more about your new gig!
Congrats to your daughter on the acceptance & scholarship. This process is brutal and the stress of it all is too much sometimes.
Happy Anniversary! Enjoy your getaway!

Oh yes- senior year is so, so stressful. After my son completed all his applications (and auditions) and was waiting to hear from the schools, he starting freaking out because he didn’t have any true safety schools. So then I started freaking out. It’s a huge relief to get that first acceptance! I hope your daughter gets into the school she wants (well actually I’m hoping she goes to FSU) but I always tell this story- my son got rejected from his dream school, went to Baylor instead and he absolutely LOVES it. So… it will all work out.
Your job sounds very cool. I’m 57 and my husband is 63- retirement is nowhere to be seen for us (we have to get our daughter through college first and she’s only a freshman in high school, so…. yeah.) Anyway, enjoy your anniversary getaway!!!

So many would KILL to have your job! Congratulations on your promotion! Your work-related stress was well worth it – now you’re reaping the fruits of that hard work.
Looks like you will have a stress-free and happy Thanksgiving with Thing 1 being in town, too.
Enjoy your getaway and congrats on your wedding anniversary. Can’t wait to hear where you went!
