Without question, this was the fastest year ever and now here we are, welcoming in December. I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up session over a nice hot beverage. What’ll you have?
Coffee In the Season of Joy
Over coffee I’d tell you my favorite barista invited me in for a holiday drink tasting. The flight included sips of Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte, Caramel Brulee Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, Gingerbread Latte, and Peppermint Mocha. While Peppermint Mocha will always have my heart, the Gingerbread Latte was mighty nice as well.
Over coffee I’d tell you that senior year for Thing 2 continues to clip along at warp speed. I ordered her Senior portrait, cap and gown, and yearbook the other day so she should be good to go. She was accepted to Indiana U’s Kelley School of Business, so now there are two solid options on the table. The remaining decisions are still a ways off, with most coming next year, so I’ll have to be patient. Time flies fast enough.

Over coffee I’d tell you the Caveman asked me if I wanted a new treadmill for my birthday. My trusty mill is now almost 24 years old and while it’s pretty bare bones in terms of the features that newer models offer, the motor is a real workhorse and is still going strong. I decided that no, I do not want to replace it at this point. I’ll just run it into the ground. Haha!
What would you tell me over coffee? What’s your fave holiday drink? How’s your holiday shopping going?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

How exciting that J is heading towards the finish line of high school! It is so bittersweet, for sure. I do miss the days when the guys were little!
Heading towards the TM as we speak–running in the cold rain doesn’t appeal to me this morning. My old TM didn’t give me a choice–it just decided one day that it was done.
Coco says
I got a gingerbread latte yesterday! I’m not sure which of the winter drinks is my favorite — I think PSL is my fav.
Congrats on Thing 2’s college acceptances. Hopefully they take some stress off the holidays.
I passed my 19 year old tread on to my Mom—I was losing confidence in its ability to run, but it still has some good years of walking left!
Deborah Brooks says
those high school years are very long days and short years! I kind of miss the hectic pace and cannot believe my kids are so old! I don’t use my tread except for walking now. If I ever really used it, I would definitely go with the Peloton. I know in Chicago you have to use it a lot more w your weather!
Jenny says
Yes, it goes so, so fast. Of course I wouldn’t know about senior year because my son’s entire senior year was ruined by Covid (yes- I’m still bitter about that.) I can’t wait to hear what your daughter decides about college! (FSU has much better weather than Indiana… just sayin.)
Ha… I like the treadmill meme.
I don’t drink the fancy Starbucks drinks but my kids do! My daughter loves the peppermint mocha. I love the title of your post. Yes, it really is the season of joy!

As you know, I’m not a coffee gal…but those all sound pretty tempting! My treadmill, I think, is a goner. It’s probably as old as yours, and is bare bones with bells & whistles. I’m on the fence…I really like having a ‘mill as a last resort indoor option, but am torn as to what I really “need.” Nor do I fancy moving it when I get a new place of residence..so I’m happily procrastinating 🙂
Catrina says
I really miss the winter Starbuck drinks! I’ll have to check out the Starbucks at the Waterfront, maybe they feature them.
Now I’m curious about what your husband gave you instead of a treadmill! Probably not a Lululemon voucher, because you have all their things already!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I did pretty literally run my treadmill into the ground — it had a good run at about 20 or so years.
Next year will definitely be a big adjustment for all, but it’s exciting at the same time to see them spread their wings and fly (I hope!). College applications are not the same as when we were that age!
Darlene S Cardillo says
No treadmill here… I run outside no matter what. (of course on salted dry paths).
No gifts either. Remember, my kids are older and on their own.
Wow… I’d love to try all the Starbucks.. Actually maybe I have but paid $$$.
Eggnog is my favorite holiday drink… I guess since I only drink it this time of year.
Rachel says
I’ve heard the Gingerbread Latte is good, and I want to try it, but I’ve been told that our local Starbucks doesn’t have the flavor. I don’t know why! But I’m still hoping to get one before they are gone!
Michelle says
This year has truly flown by but I do wish my son’s senior year would slow down just a little! Congrats to your daughter on her acceptances! My son just wrapped up his applications so now we wait.
I haven’t tried the Gingerbread Latte yet – like you I love the Peppermint Mocha.
Zenaida Arroyo says
How fun about the holiday drink tasting! I am a big fan of peppermint mocha but now have other ideas to try.
Farrah says
Ooo, all of those sond so good! (Peppermint mocha would probably be my favorite too though.)
I thinkkk I’m done with holiday shopping for the time being (still a couple straggler gifts to pick up but all the “big” stuff is done). We don’t have any cardio equipment at the moment, so thinking of possibly getting a stairmaster at some point!
Black Knight says
I had bad experiences with my treadmills. The first “died” after 10 years with no possibility to repair it. I bought another one but it didn’t work very well (dangerous sudden stops during the run); however I got the full refund.
So I made the decision to run forever outside: you know, in this part of Italy it’s possible because the weather is always good.
