I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now that turkey day is in the review mirror, the holiday season is officially here. First though, let’s open up the Runfessional for some Black Friday Runfessions.
Don’t Ask Me to Bring Melon
We had Thanksgiving dinner at the in-laws’ home this year. I did my best to be a good daughter-in-law and asked my MIL if there was anything I could make/bring. She requested melon. Fresh melon, my friends. Not wine, not an hors d’oeuvres, not a side dish or dessert, but melon. What are we talking about: Watermelon? Cantaloupe? Honeydew? A melange of all three? In the past she’s requested stuff like a “green salad, no dressing”, “veggie tray” (and then she doesn’t serve it) but melon? Who the heck has melon at their Thanksgiving dinner table? Melon is not in season. I runfess I “forgot” to bring it. Ok I’ll stop being petty. Let’s move on.
As you probably know, I run on trails all the time. All summer long I’ve eyed a few “holes” on the trail. I runfess I made every effort to avoid them. #1 to avoid snapping an ankle but mostly because I was pretty sure they were snake holes. I runfess I was SO relieved when I saw chipmunks scampering in and out of them this fall.
I runfess I’m giving serious thought to discontinuing use of the Peloton app. While I enjoy it, I don’t NEED it, and the impending price increase just adds fuel to the cancellation fire. I also runfess that I ADORE listening to Matt Wilpers on runs and highly recommend him to anyone who wants to train but does not want to hire a run coach. He dispenses SO much good sense as well as nuggets of running wisdom.
I runfess my Lumen and I are going through a rough patch. I know it’s all my fault, because, while I use it daily, I’ve not been great about following the macro recommendations. Add in some poor sleep, work stress and it’s a recipe for disaster. Tis the season. All that said, if you’re interested in trying Lumen for yourself, it really is a great tool (when you follow the directions), and they have an excellent Black Friday sale going on now.
Ok your turn: What have you to runfess? What’s your fave Thanksgiving side dish? Any Black Friday scores?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Wow, melon? Would the MIL have served it, had you “remembered” to bring it? 😉 My favorite side dish is scalloped corn (and I was over-the-moon delighted when the son requested it). I’m also contemplating cancelling Peloton. I love the workouts, but I honestly could do a lot of the stuff on my own without the hefty price increase.

Favorite side dish is sweet potatoes. And no we didn’t have any. My Mil ordered from Whole Foods.
Working not shopping today.
Good luck.

Melon is an odd choice for this time of the year-it is not so good right now. I agree Matt W has some amazing running advice. I enjoy the daily inspiration and cheer leading I get from all instructors. I truly still find much value in my membership and I use Peloton everyday.
I still have my lumen and keep thinking I will start over with it but I don’t. I would like to just not sure where to start w the macros they are different from what I was doing.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving melon or no melon

Hahahaha, when I saw the title of your post I did think melon was an odd thing for Thanksgiving??? I mean… it’s not fall-ish at all. I supposed you could find some this time of year, but it probably wouldn’t be very good. Hmm.
My favorite dishes on our Thanksgiving table were the salad, the cauliflower, and the rolls.
Peloton is increasing their prices AGAIN? I’m glad I got off that bandwagon. The workouts are fun, and I get a little FOMO with their holiday-themed classes. But there’s also a lot of free stuff on YouTube.
I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!

Hmmm on the melon. I think it’s perfect that you forgot it! OTOH, my son forgot the steaks that were supposed to be the turf of our surf and turf menu. Luckily Whole Foods was still open and well stocked ….
You know I get every cent’s worth out of the Peloton app, but that’s just me. I’ve really gotten hooked on having the “company” and encouragement in my ears. Plus, I think one (live) yoga class is $30. I know the dynamics are different, but that’s another way I look at it.
I feel you on hte Lumen. I keep thinking I should eat better, but then I struggle with wanting to actually make different choices!

Haha, that’s hilarious! What happened when you said you forgot the melon? Was there a big drama because the KEY element of the Thanksgiving Dinner was missing?
We bought 4 dining chairs today. We’ve been improvising with patio chairs for about a year because I was too lazy about it. Today, we finally ordered them at a good discount.

Melon is an odd thing to bring.
I have never used the Peloton app, but I’m sorry it’s going up in price. I have also never listened to Matt Wilpers.
I runfess that we had reservations for Thanksgiving. It was good, but not home cooking. We may have a redo next weekend, so I can get my face in some stuffing and cranberries.

I will admit to craving melon for Thanksgiving when I was pregnant one year. That is the only acceptable excuse IMO. Hope it was fine otherwise 🙂

I’m thinking of switching to Fiit, but thinking is as far as I’ve got. I know I’ll need something for the mill this Winter.
We have chipmunk holes all over our yard — one of the few animals I really don’t like (you try removing them from your house!).
Let’s just say that interpreting what my mom means is an art sometimes. She told me that Hospice told her she needs to eat sweets to keep her blood sugar up. I was relatively certain that’s not something they would tell her, so I passed it on to Hospice (who of course never told her any such thing). Then again she is also pretty deaf now. 🙁

I love Matt, he or Olivia are probably my favorites and I agree – so much good advice. I’ve been cheating on Peloton with Apple+ which came free with my insurance
I love melon, but I’m with you here. Weird request!
I runfess, I was thrilled to have seafood in lieu of turkey

Here it’s very difficult to find a melon in this season.
Running on the trail is a source of many surprises: bad or good. I had adventures with friendly and angry dogs, I was always safe but 2 friend of mine got into the troubles.

Melon is really an interesting choice.
I do love listening to Matt – I’ll be queuing him up again as soon as I am cleared to run again.
I runfess that I’ve parted ways with my Lumen – try as I might, I found it more frustrating than helpful 🙁
