Things settled down a bit this week. The Labor Day Holiday was low-key and relaxing. We had some much needed rain, the weather cooled toward the end of the week and I am running toward fall. Here’s how my workouts went.
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Strength
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Strength + Core
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, 1 mile run + Strength
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Running Toward Fall
I did not take a single running pic. I’m not in the mood I guess. The trails are looking more and more like fall though, with the leaves and acorn debris from the squirrels.
On Sunday I headed to the garden center to get a jump on fall planting. I anticipated to find a crush of people there, doing the same but I was shocked to be the only one there. It was a great surprise.
Before I let go of summer completely though, I have to share this salad recipe.
Fresh Peach & Tomato Salad
My tomato plants have definitely slowed their production and the basil looks to be on its last legs as well. I used what I have to concoct this tomato & peach salad and boy was it good. It’s simply a bed of greens topped with sliced peaches, tomatoes, some basil leaves, a bit of red onion (didn’t have any red so I used sweet Vidalia) and a few pecans. I topped it with freshly ground salt and pepper, some balsamic vinegar and EVOO. You could add a teaspoon of honey to the dressing if you want some extra sweetness but it is not necessary.

New York City Marathon Course Tips. Just like that, fall is bearing down on us, my Berlin Marathoners have reached taper time and before long, my Chicago Athletes will do the same.
How was your week? Are you settling in to a fall routine? Any new recipes?

I need to watch your video.
Very active week. The temps and humidity still feel like summer. So many storms.
I always feel like catch up. Ugh.
That salad looks fabulous – I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
That salad looks delicious! It’s making me miss my son, because I know he would love it- by the time he’s home again- Thanksgiving- peaches won’t be in season anymore.
I’m excited to see your photo of the trail looking all fall-ish. This is the time of year where I live vicariously! No fall colors here.
I am also running towards fall-or maybe crawling lol. You always get those cooler temps before we do. It’s still crazy humid here. Peaches and tomatoes are always a yummy combo gotta get them in before the season is up
Who knew that peaches go with tomatoes?! I’ll try that, thanks for the tip!
Nice amount of running this week – I can imagine how the cooler temperatures make it easier.
That salad looks lovely! Just two runs for me this week, the heat and humidity, esp at night, got to me today and all I did exercise-wise was watch the Great North Run coverage on TV!
We have cooled down, and the rain just keeps on coming here. Thankfully not every day, although it looks like it could be every day I want to run next week!
At least I’ve been bite free for about a week now — it might be a record in the last couple of months!
Yum that salad looks amazing – a perfect summery meal. We’ve had some really good peaches here from our CSA but our tomatoes in our garden have all died sadly. We started out the week hot but now it’s cooled down and I’m not ready for summer to be over – I’m in denial that fall and then winter are coming!
Wow, all those leaves! We didn’t have to many leaves, last weekend on our ride, but there were numerous scattered walnuts everywhere on the trail. That peach & tomato salad sounds delish! I’ve been up to my elbows with tomatoes and have two good-sized batches of salsa as my reward (with more to come).
Wow, I would never think to combine peaches and tomatoes, but it sounds good to me! Have you had good luck finding decent peaches?
I just brought home some big mums from Wisconsin. The price was too good to pass up! So yes, I am getting ready for fall!
That’s some really good walking and running you got done this week. It looks so autumn-like where you are!
The salad looks delicious! I’m increasingly liking that kind of sweeter fruit in salads. No fall routine happening here yet because we’re starting our “summer” holiday soon, with visitors and travel. My new recipe would be to eat mozzarella with everything. It’s such a good source of calcium!
Love the pic of the trail with the fallen leaves and the dog.
Your salad looks delicious.
I am forcing fall and I have zero regrets. I want candles and fluffy blankets and spooky vibes. And soup. And wine.
