As the year continues to slip away and fall makes it’s arrival, its time to open the runfessional. It’s always a good idea to clear the soul and soles, before we welcome a new month, am I right? Let’s get started with the first runfessions of fall.
First Runfessions of Fall
I’ve mentioned the guy I see lurking out on the trails before. The trail sort of goes behind his property and he’s often out there trimming stuff, raking the trail, etc. I suspect he’s retired and likes to stay busy. I runfess his latest “project” sort of surprised me.
On the other side of the trail from where his property is, so I know for sure he does not own it, he’s gone ahead and trimmed all the bushes? trees? and created sort of an “orchard”. I can tell he actually planted a tree there as well. It’s crazy. Let’s just hope he isn’t burying people there.
The Caveman was supposed to be away on a business trip this week, but it was cancelled. I runfess I’m a tad disappointed about this. I planned to get out the crock pot and make something I rarely get to make because he won’t eat anything that came from a crock pot. Oh well.

The Chicago Marathon revealed their medal for this year’s race. It’s the 45th anniversary race and they strayed from featuring a local landmark. I like it. I ran the Chicago Marathon twice and I runfess I think the medals in the years I ran were among the least attractive.
I actually loved the first one when I got it, probably because it was my first marathon and I had nothing to compare it to. But I never cared for the medal I got in 2010. Let the record show I didn’t care for the very hot weather either.
Ok your turn. What have you to runfess? What’s your most and least favorite race medal?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

That overly attentive ‘trail gardener” would creep me out a bit. Yeah, let’s hope there are no buried bodies, LOL! I honestly cannot name a favorite race medal. I do have a few that are in contention for least favs, though (but they ALL have great stories to tell, and represent numerous valuable lessons learned).

My favorite medal might be Big Sur because at the time, it was so different than all of my other ones. I ran ten Marine Corps Marathons and they all but one are simple little dog tags with a red and yellow striped narrow ribbon. And of course, my Boston and JFK 50-Miler medals mean the most to me because I worked harder to earn them.
Perhaps the guy got the tree as a gift or bought it to honor someone who had just died. A friend gave us a tree when my f-i-l passed away and we had no choice but to plant it in our back yard amongst all the other trees.

Oh no on the cancelled trip! I totally get that. Hugs. I’d make that dish anyway. 🙂
How weird that I “ran” across something similar on our trail last week.
This year’s medal is pretty!

Hmm, I wonder what that man is up to!
I do the same thing with meal planning when my husb is away — or at least I always have big plans to make all the veggies and quinoa. 🙂
I’ve got some pretty bland medals. Last year’s Cherry Blossom ranks high on the low list — especially because they’ve had so many pretty medals in the past.

Hmmm not sure what to make of the tree planting. I think his trail lurking would make me a little edgy.
Interesting that your hubby isn’t a fan of crock pot dishes – is it a texture/consistency thing? Sadly our crock pot recently bit the dust but I’m thinking I should get another one before we’re without our kitchen for a few months.

I’m the one who is always away. I do get excited when he’s away. Solitude is nice sometimes and eating what you like.

We have a wacky and often annoying neighbor behind us who is always up to something. He always decides to do something loud on a nice weekend day when people are trying to relax outside. He probably is up to something too! LOL

WELL, you can always do what I do: husband- “What’s for dinner?” me- “Oh, chili from the crock pot…” (husband makes a face) “OR, whatever you’d like to make!” husband- “chili will be fine.”
When I look back on old race medals, they look SO plain and blah! Medals nowadays are way more fancy.
Your neighbor must be really, really bored. Why in the world is he planting a tree in the forest? I think you need to strike up a conversation with him and find out, and report back to us.

I like to eat my things when my husband is gone, too! 😉 – I say make what you like and let him fend for himself – LOL
Am I the only one who doesn’t care about medals? I agree that those are kind of “meh.” The Nike gear this year is also meh and the T-shirt is very boring IMHO!

How funny about the crockpot. I have like three meals I enjoy from the slow cooker, but Mr. Pugrunner now can’t have any of them. He is going out of town in a few weeks, so maybe I will take advantage.
I don’t like the race medals that are just a sticker put on a medal shape. At that point, I’d rather not have them. i have too many favorites to count, but usually my faves are the die-cut ones with stained glass and all the glitter.

10-10-10 Chi Marathon was pretty hot. I had to sit down on Michigan Avenue for a few minutes as my legs had seized up (probably due to dehydration). A woman was yelling at me about 2 feet away to get up and finish. Anyway, they could have done a “cooler” medal that year especially with the 10-10-10 thingy. Nowadays medal designs seem to be much more complex/intricate as people’s expectations are higher for bling.

I don’t much like the medal I got at Berlin. On the reverse side, it has a “picture” of last year’s female winner. It would be a good idea, but her face looks a bit disfigured the way it’s carved in metal.
My favourite medal is the one from the Eiger Trail. It’s simply a stone from the Eiger Mountain with a bright green medal band. So fitting for a trail race!

My favorite medals are the ones I don’t have anymore because they got lost with the move when, in 1994, I came to live in this new house. No one of them was related to running; they were memories of my youth: rugby, soccer, volley.
And of course I also lost all the running trophies and plaques but not the medals.

I’m the weirdo who is often underwhelmed about race medals. The NYC one I kept because it’s NYC but it’s meh
Who ever thought to plant a tree, maybe a fruit he likes?
