Here we are in September already! We’re heading into Labor Day weekend and our glorious summer days are winding down. It’s time to sit down with Deborah, Coco, and you for a catch-up sesh over something brewed.
Dealing with Bullies Over September Coffee
Over coffee I’d ask you if you’ve had a Starbucks fall drink yet. While I think August is way too early for PSLs, I will tell you I quite enjoyed the Iced Apple Crisp Oat Milk Shaken Espresso. Thing 2, who is a Starbucks barista, recommended it and it did not disappoint. I got only one pump of the syrup and it was still quite delish.
Over coffee I’d ask you if you’ve ever experienced an adult bully. What is an adult bully? It’s someone who uses harassment, intimidation and manipulation tactics to either get something they want or make themselves feel powerful or significant. Their behavior can be aggressive or passive-aggressive. In my case this particular casual acquaintance has made underhanded comments that, until now, I’ve let slide. The Caveman thinks this person doesn’t have malicious intent, and I shouldn’t “hold a grudge”, but recently after yet another rude comment, I decided to make a conscious effort to avoid her completely.
Over coffee I’d tell you that September marks the 2-year anniversary of our kitchen reno. Time certainly does fly but those are 7 weeks I am happy to have over.
Now that I’ve had a couple of years to enjoy the kitchen, is there anything I regret or wish I could change? Well the floor we chose shows dirt very easily but other than that, I am still thrilled with how it came out. The new cabinets are SO much more spacious!
And last, I’d share a little mom brag. The School of Economics at Georgia Tech asked Thing 1 to do an Instagram takeover to share a day in her career life as a Valuation Analyst. It was so much fun for this Mama Bear to follow along! Haha!
What would you tell me over coffee? What’s the biggest renovation you’ve ever done? Any fun plans this weekend? Hope everyone in the path of Hurricane Idalia stays safe!
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

Oh yes, I’ve encountered adult bullies, especially in the working world. It’s funny how your question brought me back to my years as a new grad nurse and how one nurse bully, in particular, came to mind. I’m not very good at dealing with them!
How awesome that Maddie got to do the IG takeover for her alma mater!
Shathiso says
I remember your kitchen renovation so clearly! Has it been two years already, now way!
I’m with Wendy – I have encountered adult bullies (some clients come to mind); and one of my best friends is currently dealing with several bullies in her work environment (bank) which has become so toxic. When she shares the stories, I honestly don’t know what to say anymore.
Well done on your daughter’s IG takeover!

So funny. I’m drinking that as I type. It’s really good.
Kudos to your daughter.
My kitchen is biggest. And glad it’s done and I still love it.
My ex boss was a bully. I switched to a new one. He’s not great but better.
Deborah Brooks says
Yay for. Maddie that’s fun! At this point in my life, I don’t have any interest in spending time with people who make me feel bad about myself. You just let us know who is bothering you and all your running friends will take care of it LOL
Michelle says
That’s great that you still love your kitchen! I cannot wait to take a sledgehammer to ours and get the reno started LOL
Definitely no time for toxic people in your life – I hope you’re able to keep your distance from that one.
How fun for your daughter to do a take-over!
Catrina says
Love the Cape Town mug!
I like what Deborah said: Just let us know who it is and your running friends will sort out the bully for you, ha!
I remember your kitchen renovation, too. It still looks absolutely beautiful. I like the white, clean look. Do you have a white fridge as well?
Jenny says
Oh, my husband has been wanting that drink- I’ll give him the tip about just getting one pump. It does sound delicious.
I like your new (two year old) kitchen! Funny that several of us mentioned kitchen renos today. Our cabinet situation was similar to your old one, and the new ones go all the way to the ceiling. My only complaint is I can’t reach that high.
That’s so cool about your daughter. Yes it must have been fun for you to follow along on that!
Kimberly Hatting says
Adult bullies? Yes, indeed! I’ve had some experience with that scenario on social media. As annoying (and seemingly vindictive), I know it’s all on them & their life situation/experiences. Huge kudos to your daughter!!! She’s already making a name for herself!

This is the first year I’m not going to my moms for Labor in I really can’t recall how many years — but that’s because there’s a family gathering next weekend. I’m happy because like the 4th, it’s supposed to be about 90 on Labor Day.
We partially redid our kitchen when we moved in here. It was so tiny . . . knocked out walls & put in more cabinets, increased the tiny pantry a smidge (by going into the front hall closet!), but left the very old cabinets.
I don’t think I’ve really come across an adult bully but I’ve no doubt that they’re out there. Yup, sometimes simple avoidance works (unless you can’t avoid them).

Sorry to hear about the bully. :/ The majority of my patients are awesome, but I do have a few that are manipulative/bullies and I’m kinda stuck since I do still need to take care of em’. It does make me appreciate my nice ones even more though.
Your kitchen is so gorgeous! I love all the counter space. :]
That’s awesome that your daughter got to do an IG takeover for her college!
Coco says
Ugh, luckily I haven’t had to deal with adult bullies much, but I hope you can figure out how not to have to deal with or put up with it.
How fun for Thing 1.
I love the flowers in the first photo.
Black Knight says
Sorry to hear about the bully, luckily I haven’t had such experience.
Here the nearest Starbucks is in Rome, 1 hour driving far from here.
Congrats on your daughter.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I don’t go to Starbucks that often but I will definitely go to try that drink. Has it been 2 years since your kitchen renovation? Wow! I had no idea of the term “adult bully” but now that I think about it, it makes sense. Congrats on your daughter!! I am sure that was a fun things for her to do.
Jenn says
We were safe in the storm, thank goodness.
Love the kitchen so much.
Bulles suck. End of. I think there are people who do speak without a filter don’t MEAN harm, but impact > intent, and you have every right to live a life free of that.
Cari says
Funny about the floor showing dirt, that was the one thing mom realized soon when she had two teens. Boo on bullies. You deserve so much better.
