This week a whiff of fall was in the air. Although it’s still August and there’s technically plenty of summer yet to come, I feel like we’re at a turning point toward fall. School is in session and the temperatures dipped into the 50s overnight. Turning off the air conditioning and sleeping with windows open was divine. While I’m not wild about the daylight fading faster now, the cool air was most welcome. Let the record show my workouts happened around a crazy work schedule. Something is better than nothing, right? I’m grateful I don’t have marathon-sized miles to bang out because I’m not sure how I’d do it.
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Monday: Walk 2 miles, otherwise a very long work day
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Strength
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Tabata, Strength + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Run 5 miles
A Turning Point Toward Fall
Our walks are still happening though, ideally 2 miles at dawn and 2 at dusk. It’s the perfect start and end to the day. There’s more trail debris to watch out for now as the squirrels have been busy with acorns and the black walnuts are starting to fall from the trees.
Lighter, cooler air makes all the difference.
On Thursday a long-time friend of mine passed away. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last summer. Both of her kids are in college and they were home with her all summer. It was all so sudden and so heart breaking. You already know how I feel like fall and back-to-school really magnify the passage of time. This just adds to it. Make the most of your time on this earth. Old age is promised to no one.
I’ll leave you with this pic from one of our evening walks. The late summer light just hits different. In the best way.

Sorry about your friend. I have several my age who have died and a few currently diagnosed.

Yes those cooker temps helped my runnjng but sad to see the hours if daylight decreasing.

You are right about time and making the most of it. I am trying to embrace everyday and take none for granted. So sorry about the loss of your friend, it’s so hard.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. Her poor family.
We go back & forth between Summer & Fall, but that’s the way it should be & personally I’m all for Fall weather (and less mosquitoes!).
Bandit does love an evening walk but we don’t do it that often.

Oh, that’s sad. Losing someone like that is shocking, and I feel terrible for her kids- how awful to lose your mother at that age. It’s a great reminder to appreciate what we have.
It’s time for Runfessions ALREADY??? Sheesh. This month flew by.

Oh Marcia, I’m so sorry about your friend and thinking about her kids…how tough it is to lose your mom at any age. Thinking of you.
Melissa says
Oh yeah it’s starting to seem like fall here too. It was 80s today but cool yesterday and it has been dark when I go out for my runs.
So sorry for your friend and her kids! How shocking and sad. It’s so true that we can’t take anything, any day, for granted.

I’m so sorry, Marcia, for the loss of your friend. Yes, we truly need to embrace each day for what it gives us and take nothing for granted. Gosh, it’s Runfession time, already???

We went swimming in our pool today and it was only 78 degrees! Brrr, those cool nights have taken their toll on the pool temps.

So sorry for the loss of your friend.
Beautiful pictures. We are having warmer weather and less rain here so more of a summer than we’ve had recently!

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Life and health is never to be taken for granted. Before leaving the nursing profession I worked in palliative care and learned to appreciate life a lot more. Especially now after injury and more, I try to embrace and be grateful for every good moment.
Autumn is certainly on the way, there’s always something in the air as the month of August proceeds. Good work getting your daily walking done this week!

I’ve never heard that saying “old age is promised to no one”. I like it!
Pancreatic cancer seems to be particularly vicious. So sorry to hear about your long-time friend.
Marathon training definitely feels like a part-time job! I can’t wait until life gets back to normal after Berlin!

I am so sorry about your friend. I try to remember how precious and short life is, but sometimes it’s hard to remember in the day-to-day.
Our public schools started this week but the private school in my neighborhood hasn’t started yet.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.
Glad you can turn the air conditioning and sleeping with open windows. Here the heat wave is back.
Beautiful pics.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. How nice that her children were able to be with her this summer, but how hard for them now. Life is precious.
I’m looking forward to cooler fall temps, but can’t really complain about our weather this summer because it’s been cooler than usual.
Jenn says
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Sending thoughts of love and peace.
