Oh July you’re slipping away so very quickly! The Pottery Barn “Halloween Store” is already open and I spotted Christmas gift wrapping supplies at Costco and I AM NOT READY to slip into fall. What I am ready for though…begrudgingly…is to open up the runfessional. Because August will be so much nicer if we go into it with clean souls…and soles. Let’s get started.
July Runfessions
While I haven’t gotten on the scale in weeks…months? My clothes make it very clear I gained weight while I was whooping it up in Africa and then again on our week of college tours. While I am not beating myself up about it, I runfess I’m kind of shocked at how quickly the belly fat piled on. It’s like I woke one day with a life preserver around my middle. Wth? If only weight loss was as effortless.
Because of the runfession above, when my Lumen says I’m burning fat and I “need to eat 2g of carbs to fuel my run”, I runfess I am reticent to do so. I mean why not keep frying fat while I run? I know the answer, but still.
Thing #2 did a huge closet purge recently and she’s got numerous large trash bags of stuff ready to donate. I runfess I have an urge to take a peek inside to see if there’s anything I should “rescue”. I runfess I know I’m being a ridiculous hoarder.
You may know I love speed work and it’s very tough to get to the oval office during the school year because the track is closed. I runfess school has been out all summer and I’ve gotten to the track exactly ZERO times. Embarrassing.
Ok it’s your turn! What have you to runfess? Are you clinging to summer? Or ready for fall?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

As you probably know, I am desperately hanging on to summer. It’s such a short season in the Midwest (at least in Iowa), I refuse to let it slip away without a fight, LOL. We’ve been doing some purging as well, and I also sneak a peek into all the cast-offs from the kids…I’m such a sentimental junkie.

Well, I know I will be in the same place after 3 weeks of Italian food and wine, daily wine. I have not regrets at the moment but I am looking forward to getting back to my regular routine tomorrow. I have not used the Lumen in months maybe I should pull it out again. Thanks for the runfessions!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I’ve been on an ice cream diet. Enough said.
I drive by the high school track and say. I’m going tomorrow. Hasn’t happened yet.
I’ve also gotten off track with the gym because of work. Starting back next week!!!!
Michelle says
Yeah I keep saying I should hit the track before school resumes but I have yet to get there.
We won’t even talk about the ring around my middle – but I’m vacation bound and plan to enjoy. Perhaps I’ll reacquaint myself with my Lumen when we return.
While I don’t like to wish time away I runfess that I am so ready for fall!

Since I stated back with kettlebells (my heaviest is only 20 lbs, and there’s only a few exercises I use that on — mostly lower body) — my clothes are fitting better. Without changing how I eat. Although I wouldn’t exactly say they fit they way they used to. Which sucks, but not too much you can do about it.
I’ve also taken to pushing my pace just a bit on my walks when I leave off Bandit with Mr. Judy at the end. Because the pace with Bandit is literally 30 minutes for maybe a mile’s walk. I think just these couple tweaks (and a few more) have definitely helped.
I wouldn’t mind some Fall weather personally, but at least the heat’s supposed to break tomorrow (with thunderstorms, of course).

You really have to enjoy everything on a trip like that. Too bad it is always harder to take off than put on, but it’s still worth it.
2 g of carbs seems like a trivial amount?
Jenny says
Well… I’m sad to see my son leave and not looking forward to school starting, but I’m secretly getting excited about pumpkin season! And of course I wouldn’t mind a break from the heat, but we won’t get that till November.
i was also planning to go to the track this summer, but ended up doing my speedwork on the treadmill instead. Oh well. I do like track workouts, but it was just too inconvenient.
I’m glad you fully enjoyed your trip! That belly fat will come off, although not as effortlessly as it came on, of course.

Love the oval office tights and can’t wait for tights or at least capri weather
and yes yes on the clothes. Need to be better about getting my goodwill bags out
Erica @ Erica Finds says
2 grams of carbs seems very low! Are you doing keto?
I’ve run on the track almost not at all this season and I stupidly signed up for the CARA Chi Miles mile race Sat night. God help me! I laughed when I looked at the time I put down so my goal will be “don’t come in last” in my heat. LOL.
My friends have been doing clothing swaps and that’s been helpful!

I runfess that I have a hard time throwing running clothes out.
Just this morning I wore black shorts that have worn so thin that you can see my underpants shining through. They must be about 10 years old. My plan is to use them up until Berlin and then throw them away.
Just as well I don’t have a daughter who has bags full of clothes to throw out… I’d be through those bags with a comb! 🙂
Renée says
I have SUCH a hard time getting rid of clothes, yet I hate almost everything I own AND I’m basically living in parkrun tee shirts and stretchy Oiselle shorts for the last couple of months. the moment I think it’s time to purge I just … can’t.
and don’t even get me started on the weight thing. ugh. so so frustrating. it used to be hard before menopause but now it’s just… the worst really.
I’m not ready for Halloween or Christmas!! BUT… I runfess I am planning a fall vacation (November) already to Poland. See point number 2 again – after 10 days there with keilbasa and pierogi it’ll be the battle of the belly again (but I LOVE Poland and the food!!).
Jenn says
Weight gain is just easier when you get older. So ridiculous. Being an adult ruins everything.
However, you were having so much fun! I am sure you will be back to yourself soon!
