This week was all about settling in and getting back to some sense of normalcy after our trip. I went back to work and did a pretty good job shaking off the jet lag, but it’s the season of parties here and we had out of town houseguests arriving just hours after we got home from vacation. Before I get to that, here’s how the week in workouts went:
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Strength
Monday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise Rest, well work
Tuesday: Walk 2 miles, Trail Run with Thing 1
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles, Bike Tabata, Strength
Thursday: Walk 2 miles, Early work so rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Treadmill Run + Strength + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
It felt good to get back to my workouts after missing them for a couple of weeks. To be fair we got in 20k steps most days during vacay so it really wasn’t too bad. What I didn’t love was the continued poor air quality that kept me indoors and made us cut some of our walks short.
It was fun to have Thing 1’s company on one of my trail runs. It may not have been the best idea to run outside with the poor air quality, but we took it easy. She wanted nothing to do with a running pic so you’ll have to imagine us running. Haha!
The Season of Parties
The day after arriving home from Africa, we celebrated the IL’s 60th wedding anniversary, where they renewed their marriage vows. Thank heavens the air quality was good for this outdoor affair.
The day after, we celebrated our older daughter’s 22nd birthday. Where’d the time go? She’s back in Atlanta now, moved into her new apartment and headed to Ft. Lauderdale for the holiday weekend.
It’s a good thing this book arrived on my doorstep some weeks back, as I’ve been entertaining A LOT. While I wouldn’t go so far as to say entertaining is my love language, I’ve gotten way better at entertaining than I used to be. I’ve learned the art of planning, and doing as much as possible ahead of time, which is so key to my sanity. I’m excited to take a deeper dive into this book.
I’ll leave you with this ominous, smoky sunset. Enough already.
How was your week? Any air quality issues? Do you enjoy entertaining?

No because it involves cleaning and cooking.
Glad you survived.
Our air hasn’t been great. But it really didn’t bother me. The heat and humidity affects me more.
I bet it’s more comfortable on your trails.

I don’t do a lot of entertaining, but I do enjoy having friends over. It takes me all day to prepare even if I try to keep it simple.
Happy Birthday to Thing 1 and happy anniversary to the ILs!

OH it is so sweet that they renewed their vows for their 60th. I was thinking I wanted to do that for our 30th in 2 years..I love hosting! I get really into it and find it super fun except for the clean up. I am always amazed by. How much walking we do while traveling.

I’m just not a fan of entertaining. I get so nervous!
Congrats to your inlaws!

Definitely AQ problems here, too. I’m so impressed you had a party (for your inlaws, no less) right after getting back!
Since I don’t have kids, I don’t have a whole lot of call to entertain. I used to a bit more, before all the stuff with my parents and the Pandemic, but right now, I want to be taken care of, not taking care of even more than I already am!
Travel is amazing but it always feels good to be home.

I’m not very good at entertaining, to be honest. We have a big house but it’s messy and now a cat with a long-term health condition who lives in the bathroom! I did go to a quiz night on Friday, with husband, and enjoyed socialising!

Hmm… i would read that book but it might deepen my inferiority complex. I don’t know how you managed houseguests right after a vacation. We just found out some out-of-town friends are going to drop in on us on Tuesday, and my first reaction was “OH NO!!!!! Clean the house! Must go to the store! What in the world will we serve them?” It’s not a good attitude.
I think you did a great job of getting back into workouts, and what a surprise- your daughter didn’t want to be in a running picture? Ha ha. My kids would never tolerate that either.

That’s a great photo of you! So strong and determined. You should make it your profile pic!
So nice that you got a mum-daughter run! Is she into running or does she prefer a different sport?

You have been busy! I don’t mind entertaining (it forces me to clean, LOL), but I hate the clean-up afterwards. I bet you had some serious jetlag; glad you were able to press through that. Our air quality hasn’t been bad, so we’ve been luck in that regard. There definitely have been a lot of hazy sunrises, though.

How fun that your daughter joined you on your run! I haven’t run with my daughter in a long time. I miss it! I sure do not enjoy being a hostess, but was pleasantly surprised when our recent grad party turned out well. Go me!
Happy birthday to your daughter!

I’m sure the re-entry after this particular vacation was ROUGH. It was probably good that you had a lot of fun event to come back to.
I used to love entertaining. After Mr PugRunner’s “health event”, I completely stopped doing anything of the kind. Tomorrow will be the first time that I have created a themed menu and will attempt to put together a “party” in a little over a year. I’m going to be chill about it, but if it goes well, then I’ll get back to it.

Congrats to the in-laws!
That is a very eerie sunset, eeks!
I’m not a great host and I stress about it, but yet I do enjoy it. I like hosting visitors too! I find food to be the more stressful part and most of the time, people are pretty easy going….I am sure its much harder with guests with loads of restrictions…I feel like you are the hostess with the most-est! You are great at it and make it look easy 🙂

I am not a fan of entertaining. It’s too much work haha! Sometimes Ron will want to have some event and invite people over and I say “fine, i’ll clean, but it’s your thing so you have to cook and arrange all your groceries, etc” Am I a bad wife? LOL (PS he does it and he is cool as a cucumber).
Hopefully life will really settle down for you a bit now. Walking 20K steps a day is great, but I know how much you like your actual workouts!

My wife is a fan of entertaining. She usually organize dinners in the garden for all the family: hubby, son and wife, daughter and husband + 4 grandkids. The cats are special guests.
Here air is not clean too: we have a big port and 2 power plants.
Happy birthday to your daughter,
Debbie says
As much fun as you had on vacation, I’m sure it felt good to be home and back to your routine.
I love entertaining and we used to do a LOT of it. Not so sure how I’d feel about guests arriving shortly after I arrived home from 2-weeks away, though. Well, I do know… I’d feel stressed! LOL
Congrats to your in-laws. That’s quite an accomplishment!
