It was a staycation kind of week, at least in my head it was. I actually worked, but since my workload was surprisingly light, I pretended I was on a staycation. Here’s how the workouts went.
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, 1 hr Andy Speer TBS. Ouch
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Treadmill Intervals, 30 mins + Mobility
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Strength + Balance
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Treadmill 30 mins + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
A Staycation Kind of Week
I got in all of my workouts although I opted for the treadmill a couple of times. I’m so not into running when it feels like an oven outside. We had our share of suffocating heat and wicked storms this week. No sooner than I’d walked the dog Wednesday morning, the sky turned ominous and the heavens unleashed their wrath. My pot of basil (not a small pot) was blown entirely off of the deck. Miraculously it landed right side up and managed not to shatter. Not sure how that happened but I’ll take it.
Thing 1 is all settled in to her big-girl job and her big-girl life in Atlanta. I saw a thing on TV about the college drop-off and making the transition to an empty nest. The expert said the first thing parents should do is high-five each other and own the accomplishment of raising their kids. The Caveman and I did exactly that the morning of her graduation. Haha!
Thing 2 turned 18. I don’t have minors anymore. I have adult children. Let that sink in. When I started writing this blog, their were ages 3 and 7. We celebrated over dinner and of course cake. The no-added sugar thing will have to wait. There’s another celebration later today, with the extended family for all of the July birthdays, since there are 7 of them.
How was your week? Does it feel like an oven where you are?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

It is bittersweet to see our kids turn into adults and fly off to take on their own lives. It means we did our jobs. Still hurts though doesn’t it? There are a lot of perks to having adult kids too. I feel you on not being sad to miss running in these hot and humid days.

And what a cake it is! I dunno, I think my parents were really happy to finally be empty nesters — it was a different time. Then again we never discussed it.
I’m glad I’m still getting my runs in outside — might change this coming week, but we’ll see. I’m just glad I can pick & choose days (sometimes). And that the runs are very short.

Yes, I am living in an oven. Well, not inside- we DO have AC now, thankfully.
Ah, the kid thing is hard. I’m getting sad all over again because I have to take my son back to school. And my daughter is starting high school- we know how fast those years go. This is one of those things in life that seems like it should be easier- we KNOW this is going to happen, and we want it to happen, we don’t want them living with us forever- but when it does happen it’s painful!

Yes, it is pretty rewarding stepping back and seeing our kids as adults. Just wait until they’ve all finished college (#gulp), LOL. It was crazy hot and humid last week here, probably the hottest week we’ve had in a long time. I was glad to spend the majority of it on the bike.

HAppy birthday to your now adult child!! I can’t even imagine having adult children 🙂 It’s funny to think back to when we started our blogs. When I started blogging I was unmarried and had just moved to Cleveland. Now I’m married with three kids, the youngest is 2 and oldest is 7! It was hot here last week, but thankfully we have AC and I run in the mornings before it’s much hotter than 75 so I was okay.

Congrats to both girls and you!
Yes, we did our job, but is there any advice for being a melancholy empty nester? Holly and I discussed this at length. There may have been tears. It’s hard being a mom!

this week was an oven… I ran outside but each run was more miserable than the next…. Hopefully this week will be cooler.
Crazy that your girls are grown…

What a good idea with the high five! Glad you decided to celebrate the moment!
I see you do intervals on the treadmill. I think I would prefer doing intervals on the TM instead of the track.
I have 12 x 400s this morning and I don’t feel like it. And I have no excuses because the weather is perfect. Better just get it done and over with!

Oh, goodness! Two adults!
We were just in Atlanta this weekend. It’s been a while since I visited, and I really enjoyed it this time. We stayed in the Old Fourth Ward, and it was very much my vibe.
Give yourself some downtime this week. You deserve it!

Congrats to your oldest and happy belated birthday to your youngest. They grow up so fast!
It felt like an oven here all last week, but we have a temporary reprieve.

I don’t miss the oven weather, but I do miss a good summer thunderstorm!
Congrats to your daughter, you must be very proud 🙂

Congrats to you and the girls.
In my family we never had an empty nest because our children studied both in our city, live and work here.
I was the only one who left home when I enlisted in the Navy,
Humid and hot here. Better not to run outside later than 06:00 a.m.

I’m seriously considering the treadmill for some of my workouts because there has been so much rain here that I expected an arc and many animals outside my house this morning when I went for my walk. when it’s not bucketing down like the end of times it’s humid AF. I’m over it.
Congrats to your girls, you and the Cavemen definitely deserved a high five!
sorry I’m late with commenting this week – good to see you also got your workouts in as well!
