Happy Mother’s Day! We are already in the thick of MAYhem here, and it’s time to start acclimating to the heat. Not complaining one bit! Here’s how the week in workouts went.

Monday: Walk 4 miles, trail run 4 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Strength train
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles otherwise rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Strength + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 5 miles
Time to Start Acclimating to the Heat
Things got pretty steamy in Chicago while we were away for graduation weekend. I did some of my runs this week in tank tops, which was amazing. I also had to revisit this Tips for Running in Heat post, because summer running is upon us and I am here for it. Let the record show I’m happy to not need to do marathon-sized mileage this summer.
We also found our first ticks of the season. It’s as disgusting as it sounds and I made a beeline to Target to get a good flea/tick collar for Oz.
Graduation weekend was a whirlwind of fun. It was so nice to see all of Thing 1’s college friends and some of their families as well. It was a quick and exciting 4 years. I headed to Atlanta a couple days early to help her find an apartment and I’m happy to say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
The graduation ceremony was beautiful and long (2hrs 40mins), but thankfully not as long as the morning ceremony, which went over 4 hours. There are 4 ceremonies at Georgia Tech, one for Doctorates and one for Masters on Friday and two for Bachelors on Saturday. We had the afternoon ceremony which was the final one of the weekend.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken was the keynote speaker.
Mom and graduate in front of her Freshman year dorm. Where has the time gone?
Our graduate is traveling before she starts her new job in late July. We are beyond proud of her!
In Other News…
AP exams as well as the ACT & SAT tests are complete for Thing 2, and the end of the school year is coming quickly. We’ll start the college selection process for her this summer. Here we go again! We enjoyed the final band concert of the year this week, and she’ll perform in one more orchestra concert next week. Thing 2 and her Honor Band will perform at the high school graduation ceremony later this month and that will wrap it all up.

How was your week? Are you celebrating Mother’s Day? I’m visiting my mom today with some birthday celebrations thrown in too!
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!
We did all our celebrating yesterday, so for Mother’s Day, it’s just the hubs and me! I’m looking forward to a day of rest. Enjoy your Mother’s Day!
Congratulations to your daughter! When you say it was a “quick” four years I can relate- my son is HALFWAY DONE with college and I can’t even believe it- it was just yesterday I was sobbing in the parking lot of his dorm after saying goodbye!!! And good luck on the college process (SCREEAAAM!) I hope it’s not too stressful. I think I still have PTSD from my son’s senior year. Of course it was the Covid year so the whole thing sucked big time- we couldn’t visit any schools, he did all his auditions via zoom and then picked Baylor sight unseen. But it worked out! I’ll be interested to hear how it goes for you and Thing 2. Happy Mother’s Day!
Congrats again to M! I’m right there with you on preparing for the college process again – I’m not ready lol.
Hope you have a great Mother’s Day!
Congrats to your daughter… time flies!!
Just visiting my MIL today.
I’m suffering from the vacation blues… no mojo to do anything… but I’m glad for the opportunity to get away.
Congrats to the graduate! I was just thinking, last night, how quick the college years go by. The fact that I have three college grads is surreal, still. Sounds like you had a nice time in Atlanta, and a successful apartment conquest! We use NexGuard chewables for Max (for flea/tick prevention), but I wonder if it wouldn’t hurt to do a flea/tick collar as well?
Wow, closing out one era and then starting the next almost immediately! Of course my brother & I are only 2 years apart, so we were both in school for a couple of years. Good luck to you all!
Ticks are the worse. And they are Mr. Judy’s job. I don’t know why, but that is just not something I’m very good at. Luckily we don’t find them too often.
I had thought I would run a half this year . . . now I’m not so sure!
Congratulations again to your daughter and to you all! Hope you had a fantastic Mother’s Day. I am not ready for the summer heat and humidity yet either
Sounds like a marvelous kind of Mayhem. Huge congrats to Thing 1 and yay on finding an apartment!
I guess it is time for round 2 with Thing 2. Does she have a list of places she’s interested in? My two kids were so different …..
Congratulations to your daughter!! She looks so much like you in that photo where you are together!
Time to get acclimated to summer. Which reminds me, in which African country will you be doing your safari?
You will love it! So exciting!!
This one that we did was at the Kruger

Congratulations to your daughter. I remember her when you came to Italy some years ago!
Here no time yet to get acclimated, one day is warm and the day after cold. Strange season.
I can’t believe Thing 1 is already done with college!!! HOW??? she just started! Big congrats to her. Next thing you know Thing 2 will be graduating!!
We don’t have to deal with ticks for our pets but they did get fleas which is really annoying. They are indoor cats for the most part; we have a little enclosed cattio so they can enjoy outside without the risk of being plowed down by people driving too fast. An outdoor cat must have made contact with one of them through the gate and the rest is history.
i had a terrible week to be honest. Glad it’s over, just not the way I expected to be moving forward. Life continues.
Looks like you all had a wonderful graduation weekend! How exciting that Thing 1 has found her apartment and is ready to set out into the world!
We had a lowkey weekend, with a band banquet and hot air balloon festival. This is the last week of state testing and then finals are next week for those who have them. And then DONE!
Congratulations to your daughter! This time of the year is so exciting and I always love seeing all the graduates, especially the college graduates
I went out for a long-ish walk on Saturday morning and was surprised at how warm it was. I hope this doesn’t mean we’re in for a long summer
Congrats to your daughter! Time certainly does fly when they’re in college, doesn’t it?
Congrats to your daughter! so exciting. And glad she has the opportunity to travel a bit.
Ugh, tick season…the worst! We were told there weren’t ticks here, but then we see signs all the time in the Heath (park) by us warning of ticks, so we are continuing treatment as always of the pups.
