Before we say goodbye to May and welcome JUNE, it’s time to open up the runfessional and spill the beans so to speak on all of our transgressions, sweaty or otherwise. Ready to get started?
Runner’s World magazine continues to show up in my mailbox. It’s been literally years since I last paid for a subscription. I runfess I get irritated every time I read it because you need to be part of the paid “Run Club” to access much of the content. Didn’t I already pay for the subscription?
With my most recent issue of RW though, was an option for a free “gift” subscription with my RENEWAL. Apparently my subscription will expire in November. I won’t believe it until it actually happens, but I runfess I’m pretty happy about it.
Me back in my triathlon phase. Never say never.
I’m in a constant state of declutter here and recently my old triathlon suits (fondly referred to as tris(c)uits) got dredged up, as did my wetsuit. I runfess I have no intention of ever doing another triathlon, so it’s fair to say they all should go…probably. End of an era…I guess.
We are starting the college selection process with Thing 2 and I runfess it’s not for the faint of heart. Lots of promotional materials from various schools are pouring in, but I found this particular one above to be especially interesting. First I thought it was an ad for IKEA. Upon further investigation I realized it was from the University of Chicago. With an acceptance rate of a mere 6% why would an institution of this stature spend money on marketing materials? The answer is they’re manipulating that acceptance rate number by encouraging more kids to apply but then not accepting them. Kind of sketchy if you ask me.
Ok your turn: What do you have to runfess?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

So, Runner’s World is STILL available in print, huh. It’s been a few years since I bid it farewell, but it took awhile for it to disappear. I think I finally had to call them (?) because the online cancellation thing did not work (at least not for me). It’s a shame how that magazine went downhill. I used to love reading it each month.

My hat is off to all the parents out there helping their kids navigate the college application process. Definitely not for the faint of heart!
RIP Tris.

Funny I have the same experience with Women’s Running – I think the subscription was originally part of some campaign I did years ago and yet the magazine just keeps coming LOL
We’re being inundated with college stuff too! It is sad to me how some of the schools work to manipulate their stats. So unnecessary!
Wendy says
I didn’t even notice that I stopped receiving RW until you mentioned it today, lol. RW ceased being relevant a long time ago. Amazing that it’s still in print.
M seriously considered UC and was waitlisted–but I don’t think it would have been a good fit for him. It’s hard to believe we are all done with that.

If I lived near you, I would buy your wetsuit! I’ll be doing a triathlon in the Swiss mountains and I think the water is going to be freezing cold.
What on earth has Sweden got to do with the University of Chicago? And that stats manipulation is just so ridiculous!
Coco says
Yea, universities definitely rely on the “exclusive” chache. I hope the process goes well for Thing 2!
I’m still wondering why Ikea is featured so prominently on the UC brochure ….

I recently found my wetsuit from my tri days as well. It’s I’m perfect condition maybe I should sell it 🙂 I do keep getting RW as well but I am continually annoyed by the fact that I cannot click on any articles bc I have not paid for them. Funny thing is, I know I did pay for all access. Too annoyed to try to rectify it. Thanks for the Runfessions!
Darlene S Cardillo says
I still receive RW but there’s nothing to read in it but shoe reviews WTH?
I guess Women’s Running just bit the dust but at least I did read that one.
GL decluttering and with colleges.
Jenny says
I do NOT envy you!!! Having kids six years apart has its drawbacks, but at least I get a big chunk of time to recover from my son’s college selection process before having to start again. But, I will be excited to hear what schools Thing 2 is interested in! GOOD LUCK.
Yeah, I could get rid of my triathlon stuff. VERY unlikely I”ll ever do that again. I never owned a wetsuit though- Florida water is warm.

I like reading print RW but it can be pretty redundant. I don’t think I’ve paid for it in a while.
That U of C material is baffling. How are any of those things related to U of C? [I can’t believe Thing 2 is going to be a senior – MIND BLOWN!]
Jenn says
Sometimes, a good purge is just what we need.
I thought that brochure was an ad for IKEA as well!
Black Knight says
In the past I had 2 subscriptions: RW and Correre. Now no more because I prefer to read local magazines about running.
End of An Era: A great Nightwish live album. Do you know this band?
Zenaida Arroyo says
I thought RW was only in digital format and no longer in print. I remember looking forward to receiving my copy every month. But then some of the articles were yucky, redundant, and not interesting at all. Oh well. I do not miss it at all. And I am not going to pay for the digital version.
