Other than some issues with coveting my neighbor’s ferns, it was a good week. We’re in that elusive and magical place in the year where neither the furnace nor the air conditioning needs to be on. The house heats up sufficiently during the day then cools at night. It’s rare in this area of extreme weather swings, and I am here for it. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Core + Sauna
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 5 miles + Barre Mobility workout
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Tabata + Strength
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Friday: Walk 4 miles very early work
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Coveting My Neighbor’s Ferns
While overall the week was coolish, you won’t hear me complaining. It’s been sunny and gorgeous.
The trails have been dry and filled with bird-song. What’s not to love?
So about those ferns…
I told you last week I got all of my planting done. I have a shady corner of the deck where I like to do a large planter featuring a fern, under-planted with Rieger begonias and white impatiens. Last year I used yellow, begonias, which I think I prefer over this year’s orange, but whatever. I like this arrangement so much I went to get another fern and found a smaller one. When I checked out though, it was the same price as the large one. I still got it, but my inner cheapskate isn’t happy to pay the same price for a fern that’s 75% smaller than the one in the pic.
When I was out running I came upon a large “field” of ferns growing in someone’s yard. Even though ferns are perennial, I’ve never gotten mine to grow back in subsequent years. The thought of “borrowing” er….stealing….I mean digging up a fern and dragging it home crossed my mind. Don’t worry, I won’t do it, but dang I want to.
School’s Out!
My “baby” is now a rising SENIOR! I may have peeked at the graduation live stream on YouTube to catch a glimpse of Thing 2 performing in the Honor Band for the processional and recessional and I was not disappointed. Thing 1 has been travelling since she graduated earlier this month and will be jetting in for a visit today. Color me excited!

Core Sculpt Workout. Join me over on YouTube and let’s work that core. A strong core enhances balance, stability, helps improve running and lifting form, promotes good posture and maybe best of all helps prevent injury.
Hope you all have a safe and relaxing Memorial Day! Any fun plans?

Everyone is enjoying such fab spring weather this week! If only we could bottle that up for July and August. Seems like things are good and steady for you. Have a fantastic rest of your week

Enjoy your time with Thing 1!
Our bedroom is on our second floor. So yes, we’ve had the AC run a few nights — I KNOw it will run tonight, it’s supposed to get up to almost 90. Our next house better be a ranch!

Oh, your neighbors have so many ferns… they won’t miss one (heh heh heh…)
Your weather sounds amazing- I’m envious. And I’ll check out your core workout- it looks good!

My neighbor across the street gave me permission to “have at it” with her plethora of ferns. While my transplants (from her generosity) come back each year, they’re not looking very prolific. I might have to snag a few more of her batch to enhance my “fern family.”

Haha–we have so many ferns up here at the lake that I keep cutting them back. I could probably hook you up with a few, just saying!
Enjoy your time with M!! I know how much you miss her!

Those are some impressive ferns!
Glad you are having such nice weather! It’s been surprisingly sunny and perfect in the U.K. It will be interesting to see if the summer is as hot here as it was when we arrived last year, and flat does not have air con…we’ll have the windows open a lot for sure.

We had that glorious weather this week too. My bedroom tends to be the hottest room in the house but I just had to run on my fan and get a nice breeze from the windows – it was great!

Glad you had good weather. Here sunny and warm: summer is coming and many people are already on the beach.
In my garden the sunflowers are blooming……

Oh my gosh. Ferns are gorgeous, but all I can think of is how that would be a great hiding place for snakes. Florida ruins me every day.
I can’t even think about graduation. Only three years! 🙁
I ran a 5K and then we had friends over for fish tacos. It was definitely a nice and quiet Memorial Day.

I hope you are having an amazing time with Thing 1!! One more year with Thing 2, it’s going to be so strange knowing that BOTH girls are well and truly grown up and going to have a great impact on the world! We had the same day as Memorial Day off (Pentacost Monday) and had an extra parkrun in Nijmegen to attend. it was fun. We are also really having some great weather here!
