This was not the most productive week…as far as workouts were concerned, at least. Work and coaching were completely off the leash (in the best way) as expected. What I didn’t plan on though, was getting a cold. I spent the early part of the week trying the fight it off, and the latter part, doing my best to recover.
Not the Most Productive Week
While I did get in my daily walks, sauna time, and a bit of yoga and gentle stretching, there isn’t much else to talk about, unless you wanna hear about Dayquil and Nyquil, so I’ll leave it at that. We had some horrendous storms again this week, and more more snow, but some beautiful weather as well. Spring is finally in full bloom, even though it’s still freezing sometimes. Literally.
Watching
We finished up Emergency: NYC, from the makers of Lenox Hill. I love a good medical docuseries and this one featured some of the same docs from Lenox Hill. Highly recommend.
We also watched American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing. Many of my running friends found the opening minutes too disturbing to get through (and I totally understand). This was a riveting series and I can’t believe 10 years have passed since this unthinkable tragedy occurred. I found myself thanking my lucky stars I did not run Boston in 2013. In 2009 when my entire family and a dozen or so friends came along to spectate, some of them stood exactly where that first bomb detonated. It’s chilling.
Sugar-Free Life
I’m in the 50-something-day range of eating no added sugars (not counting the blueberry pie I didn’t even want). My goal was to aim for 30 days….and then 60….and now I plan to just keep on keeping on, because why not?

Sorry you were sick… seems to have a lot of that going around. Hope you are on the mend… Spring colds are very common.
Kudos on the sugar-free diet… I think I’m doing the opposite…
Deborah Brooks says
After our vacation, I am also determined to get back to limiting sugar. I just feel better when I do. It is a lot harder than it sounds isn’t it? Hope we both feel better this week!
Wendy says
I’m seeing a lot of patients with the cold! SJ had it as well and it is really a doozy. I hope you feel better this week. We binge-watched Beef and holy moley was that good!

Obviously things are going around; I’m sorry you had a cold! Glad to hear you’re on the mend.

Sorry to hear you had a cold, but glad to hear you’re recovering. My allergies have been worse this year than usual, but still no where nearly as bad as some people get.
Good job on limiting added sugar for 50 days. You inspired me to cut back and I’m feeling better already!

Ugh, sorry you got sick! About the sugar thing… when I stopped eating sugar, deep down inside I knew it was a “forever” thing, but I didn’t let myself think like that. I know in AA they say to not look ahead, but just get through today. In order to not feel deprived, I always think “I could have sugar anytime I want in the future. But I’m not having any today…” (repeat for infinity.)
Anyway, I hope you’re feeling better! Looking forward to Runfessions.

Sorry about your cold. I hope you are feeling better now.
I was thinking about doing a no-sugar month even as I packed up my coconut chobani and Milanos to take to Mom’s. I have a long way to go!

Ugh, so sorry to hear about the cold. It seems a lot of people are victims of it, and it’s lasting much longer than usual. I have had some sinus “thing” going on for the past couple weeks…not sure if it’s an actual cold (it’s been forever since I’ve had one) or allergies (haven’t had any allergy probs since my five years of allergy shots (several years ago). I just know I’ve been burning through the Kleenex, LOL. That is freaky about the Boston bombing and your spectators having been in the exact spot.

So sorry to hear about that cold. They’re so annoying. My husband is still having some effects of what he had after St Patrick’s day! Odd that I didn’t catch it myself.
I remember very well hearing the news about the Boston marathon bombing, it was terrifying.
That’s great you’re continuing to skip sugar. I’m doing the same since Christmas (except a biscuit or two on Saturday nights when we’re offered tea and biscuits after a gig) and feel great. I don’t miss it at all.
Michelle says
Sorry about your cold and happy to hear you’re on the mend. Bravo on continuing your no-sugar days – I really should join you as I’m starting to feel the sugar creeping in lately more than I’d like. I blame the snack cart at the office lol.
Catrina says
Did you have any running candidates for Boston or London this year?
I’m starting my training cycle for Berlin in September – for the first time in my life, I’m using a coach. I’m excited to see what difference it’s going to make!
Renée says
I’m so sorry you weren’t feeling well. That sucks. but hopefully by now you are on the upswing!
we watched American Manhunt last week too. I wasn’t in the US when it happened but one of my friends was running and she crossed the finish *maybe* 5 minutes prior to the bombings. It was a massively stressful situation as she couldn’t find her people for a while afterwards. Luckily everyone was ok. I did not know what happened in the days following. What a nightmare. It was very upsetting.

I hope you are starting to feel better. So many people here have had nasty colds over the last few weeks (thankfully, I escaped and pray it stays that way). So, chilling to even think that your family stood where that bomb detonated years later. The thought is just overwhelming.
