Well hello March! I have to say I’m pretty happy to have February behind us, even though I never want to wish away time. Before I get to the two things I missed this week, here’s how the workouts shook out:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Treadmill Speedwork + Stretch
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Lower Body Strength, Sauna
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, rest
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles, Stretch, Sauna
Friday: Walk 4 miles, rest
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, heavy strength
Two Things I Missed This Week
The first thing we missed this week was another wicked winter storm. For once we were too far North to get the brunt of the rain/ice/snow. Actually we got none of it and I am more than ok to miss out!
The wind is raw and the trails are pretty much a mess right now, due to all the freeze/thaw action, but it’s still nice to get out for some fresh air.
The other thing I missed this week was sugar. I decided March would be a sugar-free month because it’s time to tighten up my eating habits once again. While I’d tell you I don’t eat “that much” sugar, when I really pay attention, it’s still too much for my liking. Grabbing a Hershey Kiss here and there, using brown sugar to make teriyaki sauce, it all adds up faster than I’d like to admit. So as of March first, I’ve been trying to stick as closely as possible to zero added sugar. It hasn’t been easy but nothing worth doing ever is.

How was your week? Is it spring-like? Or is old man winter hanging on?

we missed out on all of the winter storms but sure did get a ton of rain and wind. That has pretty much been our winter this year. We got no measurable snow at all! I do like at least 1 snow day to play in. I am also continuing my no added sugar quest. If I don’t keep things in the house, it is a lot easier. Almost everything has sugar! It is not easy.

I have to admit that I don’t miss any of that weather! I’m definitely enjoying a break from the cold and gloom. It is nice to see the robins–spring is coming for real! I just hope it’s not a bumpy ride.
Good luck with your sugar challenge!

Still no robin spotting in my area, though I seldom see them until after they’ve been back for awhile. I hear ya on the sugar. I know I’m over-doing it as well, and need to fine-tune my intake. I probably couldn’t make in an entire month, LOL, but I could go a week at a time. I’ve already started ignoring all the candy at work (which sits within arm reach from my desk), so that’s a BIG start for me.

Glad signs of spring have arrived- we made it!

No added sugar sounds hard, but like you said, “nothing worth doing ever is” easy. I am so disciplined in my workouts and so many other aspects of my life, but not so with eating. I mostly eat healthy, but I do have a sweet tooth. I recently wondered why I’m not as disciplined with my eating… Thanks for the inspiration!
I saw our first Robin of the year, last week. They were a little later making an appearance here than usual (or I’d just not seen them when they were out).

It looks like you had a great week of workouts. Glad the storm missed you! And yes- it’s so, so hard to keep away from sugar. You literally have to read every label. But it’s worth it- sugar really has no redeeming qualities, other than it gives you quick energy if you’re running long distances. Good luck with it!

We got the storm you missed.
No sugar for a month?! Good for you.

Old Man Winter has sort of taken up residence for a while, but really not too bad. It’s warm in between storms. 🙂
Good luck with the no sugar! I keep an eye on it, but there will be birthday cake this week. Maybe I won’t like whatever my sister decided to get . . . .

Oh, we got that storm! I’m so over winter!
Good on you for the sugar detox – I’ve done it for two weeks but a whole month?! I have been trying to keep my eye on it – it’s amazing how much sugar is added to everything.

Oh, one of my go-to weekday dinners is broiled salmon that I fix with a coating of BBQ sauce. I do compare brands when I shop, but they ALL have added sugar — some just a less ridiculous amount than others.
Glad the storm missed you. We’ve had warm days, but it is still in the 30s at night so I have to watch for black ice at dark o’clock.

We missed the storm that rolled through our area too. They got snow just 20 mins north of us, but we just got rain. It was such a windy storm too! I give you lots of credit for reducing/eliminating sugar. That would be really, really hard for me to do.

Your no-sugar mission reminds me that I should start something like that with alcohol. There’s absolutely no benefit in drinking it and I don’t even particularly enjoy it.
Well, March is still young and I can still start! Thanks for the reminder and good luck with the no sugar!
Jenn says
Good luck with cutting out the sugar! I just can’t quit ice cream. Especially on the new diet plan Mr PugRunner is on – we are already low-to-no sodium, and it’s really just sucking the joy from food.
I am hopeful for a great March!
