So here we are, we made it past Groundhog day, spring cannot be too far in the future can it? Ok, yes it can. I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch up sesh over a nice warm beverage. I’m going with some Starbucks Winter Blend splashed with Half & Half and a scoop of collagen. What will you have?
Over coffee I’d give you an update on this “offensive” reel that Instagram initially refused to monetize because it “violated community terms and conditions”. I submitted an appeal and again I was informed it was in violation because it was “potentially offensive to advertisers.” Ok so let me get this straight: We can suppress posts by older people because advertisers may not like them, because if an advertiser is not happy the money flow stops. After posting about this in my Runfessions, Instagram mysteriously decided my post could be monetized after all.
Over coffee I’d ask you if you feel like the end of the school year will be here before we know it. No? Just me? With our college daughter’s graduation on May 6, we started making our travel plans for the big event, only to learn that Thing 2 has an AP exam on May 5, which obviously cannot be rescheduled. The struggle is real. MAYhem never disappoints.
Over coffee I’d ask you what service you use to read blogs. I’d used Bloglovin for years but lately its been so squirrely. Either it doesn’t load at all, or if it does, it shows spammy content under some of the blogs I follow. I think I need to delete my account entirely.
Over coffee I’d ask you if you remember when I fessed up to buying drinking vessels I love but don’t need? Well a couple of weeks ago I stood the bottle shown in the pic on the dish drainer (I swear I knew better) and it immediately toppled over and shattered. Instead of feeling relief because I didn’t really need said bottle, beautiful as it may have been, I went on a quest to find a new one. Starbucks has a new (not as pretty) version that does not spark joy. Google revealed that Etsy has a whole slew of them available…if I want to pay $50. The answer to that is a resounding NO. Sigh.
What would you tell me over coffee?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday.

Instagram and Facebook both frustrate me. I use them both, but I’ve often considered ditching them. I am sorry to hear about your “offensive” reel.
Blog reading, Oh I am just getting back into blogging after a very long hiatus. I’d love to find a faster way to keep up. So I’m all ears and will come back to see what others have to say about that.
School year, um it’s not too bad for me this year. I don’t have any kids graduating so not awful. I do have a kid that’s planning a wedding though. That’s different. Makes me feel old. Thankfully I have my 8-year-old who thinks I’m young.
Okay, that’s it. Happy Friday! Make it a good one!

I didn’t think twice about your reel. It’s interesting what IG finds offensive. I don’t think they have people who review our posts–there is probably some algorithm and something triggered a red alert. I’m glad to hear that they rescinded the ban. Sheesh. Offensive is in the eye of the beholder.
Oh man, what a conflict regarding graduation! Can you leave right after J’s exam?
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh no on the May 5 conflict! That’s gotta be really hard to resolve. Good luck.
I’m sorry about the shattered mug, but the universe does have a way of nudging us sometimes, doesn’t it? I recently got an email that I’d one my choice of gifts in a group I belong to. Luckily I didn’t jump right non that, because the next day I got a second email saying it was an error. I was considering a mug that I don’t really need, but still, even though I love the group, I admit it left kind of a bad taste in my mouth.

That’s a bummer on the favorite bottle’s demise, and an even bigger one with the May 5 & 6 conflicts. One of my friends had a similar ordeal when both her son (graduating high school) and her daughter (graduating college) had big events happening on the same day. I’m glad to hear the Insta reel “violation” had a happy ending.
Michelle says
Ugh on the May date conflict! Is it possible to catch a late flight after the exam?
I still find your situation with the IG reel perplexing – especially given some of the things I’ve seen posted on IG.
I’m glad you asked about an alternative to Bloglovin as I’ve been wondering the same – please let me know if you find a good replacement.
Jenny says
Well, the school year cannot come soon enough for some people around here. My daughter complains incessantly about middle school and can’t WAIT to get to high school next year. I feel like there’s still a lot of the year left, but I know it’ll fly by. So I guess you’ll be flying out to your daughter’s graduation on the evening of the 5th? That is unfortunate timing, but good thing you found out about that test date now and not three months from now.
You have the same mug I do! The teal Starbucks one- Zenaida gave it to me in our Secret Santa gift exchange.
Deborah Brooks says
I just gave you a few more views on your reel! That is so silly really but good for you for challenging it. I have not used blog lovin in years but I must still be on there.
Darlene says
That’s weird about your reel!?
I use bloglovin but mostly I read those blogs from the Monday, Tues & Friday link-ups and those few that comment on my blog…
A few of my favorite Starbucks mugs broke (in the dishwasher)… the older ones… I was very sad since they were from Bordeaux and Nice – France!!!!!! Of course UI could replace them for a zillion dollars.

I’m a sucker for a good coffee cup or tumbler I also do not need…haha
Coco says
Ugh on the MAYhem scheduling chaos! I hope you can figure it out.
Gosh, Bloglovin hasn’t worked for me for years. Now I really rely on linkups and know I miss other posts.
Catrina says
I use WordPress but it’s not reliable.
Some blogs (like Deborah’s or Lisa’s blog) never load in the reader although I have subscribed to them. At least I get an e-mail, so that helps!

Sorry to hear about the IG struggles! Social media has been frustrating me lately and I feel like I’ve ended up posting less and less as a result of this.
I used to use bloglovin but haven’t for a while now. I (sadly) don’t really know of any other services for reading blogs and am pretty behind in general on everyone’s blogs including my own. :[
Zenaida Arroyo says
I didn’t think it was offensive. It is certainly so true. I thought of one brand that has those ambassador pictures on the wall, but they’re “younger” ones. Where are our pictures? 🙂 I don’t use Bloglovin and really solely on linkups. Though I have missed a few here and there.
