Happy New Year friends! The last week of the year was all about trying to resume some semblance of “normal” after our Christmas house guests departed. While it eventually warmed up, the week started in the single digits, and I opted to keep our walks short and many of my workouts indoors.
Monday: Walk 1 mile, Bike Bootcamp
Tuesday: Walk 2 miles, Strength + Core + Mobility
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Tabata, Strength
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Tread bootcamp
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Run of some sort
She Moves Out
On Monday our college daughter, aka Thing 1, officially moved out. Because she was bringing her car down to campus in Atlanta, she flew in but then loaded up (most) of her remaining stuff and headed out, boyfriend in tow, dark and early Monday morning. They’ll split the remaining 2 weeks of the holiday break between Florida and NYC. I tried hard to be cool (and as tear-free) as a cucumber and I was mostly successful, but dang it the waterworks started after she pulled away.
In other news, this final week of 2022 saw lots of purging, decluttering and donating. It always feels good to make space, although it never seems to be enough.
I was bummed I was unable to snag Lightscape tickets until 12/29 as I’d hoped to go with our guests before Christmas. It all turned out for the best though because we all know how cold last week was. Lightscape was cancelled in the days leading up to Christmas, thanks to our barabaric weather. It was an amazing 58 degrees on 12/29 though, which was incredible.

I couldn’t resist posting this meme. My kids are too young to remember The Brady Bunch but I’ll bet you can imagine how many times in my life I’ve heard “Marcia Marcia Marcia!” Today Jan gets her day! Haha!
How was your final week of the year? Did you reflect? Did you set goals for 2023?
Iโm linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

LOL on the Brady Bunch meme. I watched that show every day after school!
(((Hugs))) on Thing 1โs departure. I guess sheโll be moving to a different city after graduation?
Yikes on it being so cold that Lightscape was closed. Glad you got to enjoy it in milder weather โand maybe relax more without guests in tow,

Oh Marcia (Marcia, Marcia…) that’s hard. I know how hard I cried when my son went to college- I’m dreading the next phase. My sister gave me good advice- she said “You won’t get over it- but you’ll get used to it.” We get used to these things and it does get easier.
I could quote every single line from every Brady Bunch episode ever. Even though I was the older sister in my family, Jan was always my favorite.
Nice job on the decluttering! That’s a mood boost, for sure. Happy New Year!

Brady Bunch was my show for sure!! I am just starting the decluttering process here. It’s been too long! Sending hugs for your daughter moving out. That’s a tough one! The arch light looks just like the one we visited this week. For a minute I thought maybe you had visited Toledo! Have a great new year. I hope 2023 brings you the best ๐

Ah yes – never missed The Brady Bunch ๐
Sending you hugs on your daughter’s move – I know I would be a teary mess. I hope her new location will make for easy visiting.
Happy New Year!

Decluttering is so rewarding!
I hope 2023 is a wonderful year for you and your family.

Oh I can imagine it’s emotional when your child moves out! Good to see you were getting out for a walk each day, that has been my goal too but I didn’t keep it.
I’ll definitely check out your balance & mobility video – that could be useful, I really struggle with balance on some strength exercises (although I’m not always sure if it’s balance or strength I’m lacking!).

Hahaha that Brady Bunch meme is hilarious. Believe me when I tell you it got old when everyone sang the Addams Family theme song to me my whole life (Adams is my maiden name)!
I can only empathize with you about M moving out. It’s so hard! After the pandemic, I knew Matthew was gone for good. That’s when I redecorated both of their rooms, which helped me a lot. I still have a lot of purging to do, and I plan to tackle that this month. I want to move my workout equipment to their old playroom, which is sitting empty. What a waste of perfectly good space! Hang in there.

Oh its so hard when they finally move out. I miss my daughter so much and Chicago feels far away. My son has been back home the last few months but is now looking for an apartment. I am just spoiling him for the next few weeks until it happens. Oh why is is so hard? Hugs xoxo

I get you. We raise our kids to (ultimately) set them free…but it’s a tough reality! It was so hard when our oldest moved to Pennsylvania after college, and we were overjoyed when she chose to move back. Then, our son went to Baltimore and (later) Florida…but he’s now just moved back as well. Sigh. Hopefully, the stars will all align for her as well, and she’ll eventually find her way back closer to you ๐

It’s not easy when our little ones grow up and go out on their own. Even when they’re in their 30’s, as mine are, it’s hard when they drive away (one son lives nearby, but one lives in Florida).
My main fitness goals are to stay active, maintain my current level of fitness, and avoid injuries.
Happy New Year!

My brother and I moved out at the same time. He was 22 and I was 19. At the time, I didn’t understand why my mum cried. I mean, it wasn’t as if we died or anything.
However, many years later, I see it from her perspective and now understand. It’s must have been so hard for her.
Hang in there, Marcia!

Happy New Year! Having a daughter now, I was super emotional when she had her last day at daycare, so I know I’ll be a mess when she’s old enough to move out, haha!
I’m glad the weather has warmed up in your area as well – I was not digging the single digits over here in Philly, though I did get one really cold run out of it!
Jenn says
Sounds like waiting til after Christmas for the lights was the best thing for sure! Brrr!
My balance is off, but I’m working on it. I get mad at myself for struggling, but really that’s so silly.
Happy New Year! Lots of support to you as this new chapter for Thing 1 begins!

Happy New Year! It sounds like getting tickets for Lightscape after Christmas was a blessing in disguise ๐
I love that Brady Bunch meme – so funny!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I am glad it all worked out with the Lightscape. I’ve heard many great things about it but haven’t been there yet. Maybe this December? I do remember watching the Brady Bunch, such a fun show!
