This week was all about playing cat and mouse with old man winter. Lots of planning, rescheduling flights and squeezing in my workouts before the winter storm took place. With work in high gear and holiday travel/prep, let’s just say the workouts were on autopilot. Our walks took a hit too, cuz -37 doesn’t feel so good. You do what you can.
Monday: Walk 2 miles, Treadmill intervals + Strength + Core
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles, otherwise rest
Thursday: Walk 2 miles, Trail Run 3 miles
Friday: Walk 1 mile, Bike Tabata, Strength
Saturday: Walk 2 miles, 45 min. Tread Bootcamp
Sunday: Walk, TBD
Running Into Winter
First the forecast was for 18″ of snow. That was reduced to 10″ then to 2-7″. The actual snow total here was an underwhelming 2.5″. What did not change though was the arctic temperatures and high wind. We had out of town guests flying in and we opted to get them in sooner than later. It was the right call. All the glory to Delta for changing their flight plans without charges.
The night before the infamous “bomb cyclone”, we attended a Hanukkah party at the inlaws’. Othwerise, while a couple of our guests were brave enough to venture into the city in the below-zero weather, mostly we made the best of staying home with games, food and….yeah plenty of food.

Merry Christmas Marcia! About 10 days before we were forecast to get all the snow — and slowly it changed to rain. I am not unhappy about that. It almost washed all the previous snow away (but of course left a lot of ice behind).

Sounds like a busy, fun week for you! I’m happy to see the sun this morning and I’m going to attempt a few miles around the hood. The streets are surprisingly sloppy for the little amount of snow we got! Now we can prepare for our heat wave! Happy Holidays!

Glad you are staying warm and snug! I think the frigid weather is moving out of our area today. We got rain before it came through, so no snow around here.
Merry Christmas!
Darlene Cardillo says
It was cold here but not that cold and we got rain rather than snow.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Hope you have warmer temps next week.

I played a lot of cat & mouse with the weather as well. The extreme cold certainly arrived about a month early…maybe it’ll leave as quickly (wishful thinking). That menorah is beautiful!

I love the winter solstice photo- yes, peace and kindness is what we need. I’m glad everyone was able to arrive safely for Christmas! My sister lives in your area and I know she had a lot of stress this week (they hosted the gathering for her husband’s family on Friday) but everything went smoothly for her as well.
I hope you’re having a nice Christmas! And now, I’m off to eat lots and lots of food. I’ll be needing your workout.

Eighteen inches of snow here in DC and the suburbs would close things down, but I’m sure that’s nothing for Chicago. Still, you got lucky with a lighter snowfall.
What a pretty picture of the lake! Happy holidays!

A lovely solstice photo! Here in the southern hemisphere, it means our days will now get shorter. Summer holidays have just started here in Cape Town and it’s full of tourists.
But I will get my share of cold weather at the end of the week when we’re returning to Switzerland for a couple of weeks.
Susanne says
That’s wonderful that you could reschedule the flights for your guests! Hope you could relax for Christmas after such a busy week.
Deborah Brooks says
You all really had a tough one weather wise this week! Sounds like things are going to warm up a touch this week. Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to you all. Wow is it time for the runfessions again!?

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!
So smart to change the flights for your out of town guests. One of my best friends was supposed to fly from Seattle to NYC on Friday and her flight got cancelled so she missed spending Christmas with her family 🙁 The crazy weather messed up travel plans fo so many people which makes me sad.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
That was great that Delta allowed a free reschedule of those flights! I’m sure travel was a big headache for a lot of people.
Jenn says
It was all very cold, but nice. Hope that bomb cyclone didn’t unleash too much misery.
I’m ready for the New Year.
