It was a tough week here. Before I get into that, here’s how the week in workouts went.
Monday: Walk 2 miles, Run 5 miles
Tuesday: Walk 2 miles, 5am work day
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Strength + Barre
Friday: Walk 3 miles, another very early workday
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Pace Ladder at the track
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
The bad news just kept on coming this week. The news about Eliza Fletcher was tough. Senseless tragedies like these keep happening and I honestly don’t see an end in sight. After a relaxing Labor Day weekend, the bottom dropped out here at home when we were blindsided by some bad news I’m not going to share here. The months ahead will be challenging for sure, but we’re going to move forward as best we can. Of course I leaned into the solitude of the trails. Murderers be damned.
I found the track mercifully empty on Saturday morning so I took full advantage with a tough pace ladder workout that got the endorphins flowing. I believe the universe happens “for” us rather than “to” us, and while I don’t know how everything will shake out going forward, I am hopeful it will all be for the best.
It was another week of football and field hockey here. Thing 2 had 3 field hockey games and I appreciated the nice spectating weather. I kind of love this pic of her marching band having their yearbook pic taken. It takes a village to wrangle a band that size.

How was your week? Do you lean into your running in stressful times?

Darlene Cardillo says
Definitely use running as a stress reliever. Hope it works for you.
Hugs. Of course, you do not need to share personal stuff on the blog. You have my virtual support!!

I had the same thought on the trails this week, lol. Or maybe not lol, but I’m still running by myself! Heading out as we speak to try and beat the rain.
Deborah Brooks says
I am sorry that you are having a tough time this week. Hope things start to get better for you. Yes, running and workouts are my stress reliever too. I am happy to have my squad to run with.
Kimberly Hatting says
Sorry for the tough week, Marcia. I hope things mellow out for you a bit. I shunned barre for a long time, due to ignorance of what it entailed. But now, I have become a fan for the subtle lower-body strength and feel-good vibes.
Jenny says
I had a client this week going through a difficult time, and she told me that her philosophy is that everything that happens is a gift- sometimes it just comes in strange wrapping. i know there are some things that are pretty hard to see that way (Eliza Fletcher’s murder?) but we can try. I’m sorry about your personal situation- I hope you guys are okay and that it resolves in some way soon.
This week I’m determined to do your new workout! I have to get out of my rut.

I used to lean into running in stressful times, now I lean a lot more into meditation. Whatever works for you! I’m very sorry for whatever you’re going through — I know a lot about being blindsided in the last few years. As much as I have shared on my blog, there have been some fairly major things I haven’t shared, too.
Hugs Marcia. Challenges do make us grow, but that doesn’t make them any less hard to live through.
Catrina says
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that, Marcia. Sometimes it’s hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel – but I’m sure you and your family will get through this.
Workdays that start at 5am are no joke! Did you get your walk done before that or sometime later in the day?
Michelle says
I’m so sorry for the stressful news. Sending you lots of hugs.
Jessie says
I hope you and your family are okay Marcia. Understand some things aren’t best shared on the blog. Thinking of you.
Kim G says
So sorry Marcia – it sounds like you’ve had a hard week 🙁 Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and wishing you strength to get through the next few months.
Liz Dexter says
I love the picture of the band having its picture taken! Lots of love to you, take care with that news and look after yourself.
Cari says
Yes yes on the change of pace.
GHugs. You know where we are when you need us. and no, I hadn’t read this yet when I texted you the flower. Was just randomly thinking of you. Universe is weird.
Michele Heller says
Sorry to hear you had bad news. I hope all turns out well. Keep up with the running to relieve the stress. I love when I get the track to myself and ladders are one of my favorite speed workouts to do. Great week.
Jenn says
I am so sorry about your bad news. I hope you have the support you need through this difficult time.
Look at that band! I don’t know if A’s school has had their pic taken yet, but I can’t wait to see what ours looks like.’

For some reason Eliza Fletcher’s murder hit me really hard too. I did run solo in my ‘hood since, but every time I justify it thinking “but I feel totally safe” I realize she probably did too.
I know you will get through whatever else is going on even if it is tough. Please reach out if there’s anything I could possibly do to help.
