Well hello September! You sure showed up fast. We’re continuing to settle in to the new school year here. My schedule is full but it’s been fun too. Here’s how my workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles, core, mobility
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Tabata, HIIT workout
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Run of some sort
It was yet another almost full week of single parenting as the Caveman was away Sunday thru Thursday. Besides work, my week was filled with Thing 2’s very full schedule of extra-curriculars. Between a rigorous course load filled with AP classes, Marching Band, Field Hockey and her job, she’s a busy girl and I’m doing my very best to support her.
I attended my first-ever Field Hockey game with many more to come. It was fun and I’ve gotta say Thing 2 was pretty scrappy and got in the fray more than I expected.
We also enjoyed our high school’s first home football game of the season. It was a beautiful, sultry night and it was so much fun to watch our team hand their opponents a resounding 35-7 loss.
We were really there for the Marching Band’s Halftime performance, and they did not disappoint. They played a Beatle’s medley that was super enjoyable. Overall it was a very fun, albeit late, night.

HIIT Interval Workout. Two of the most important things women can do as they age is lift weight to maintain and build muscle mass, and do short bursts of high-intensity exercise that elevates the heart rate and stokes the metabolism. This low-impact workout checks both of those boxes. Grab a moderate to heavy hand weight and join me!
How was your week? Did you race? Any signs of fall?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Can’t believe it’s September already. But we’ve already had some cool morning. And saw some leaves down on my trails.
Yes ran a half marathon yesterday and it felt very hard. But I’ll forget do another in a month. Lol

Signs of fall, did you ask? No turning leaves (or very minimal if any), but the temps are definitely dropping most mornings. HIIT…gosh, it’s been AGES since I’ve done any of that! I need to work that back into my schedule.

Oh definitely signs of Fall. A few Fall like days & some very Summer days too — doesn’t that say Fall? Leaves changing at my moms.
When I was a senior in HS, I drove to school, had a few classes in the morning, then off to a local community college for a few classes, then back to HS for orchestra, then off to work . . . and then in the Spring I also had after school practice in the Orchestra of the school play! Oh to be young!

Wow, your daughter is doing field hockey AND marching band AND she has a job? That must keep you both very busy. I love the pictures of the football team and marching band- I’m looking forward to getting back into that when my daughter goes to HS next year.
Okay, i’ll do your new workout tomorrow! It’s time for me to branch out from your Cardio Barre workout a little : )

It sounds like Thing 2 has a busy schedule — and a lot for you to keep up with. I played field hockey in high school gym class and thought it was fun!
No real signs of September here, except the darker mornings.

Still can’t believe it’s September already! We’re diving into school mode this week so I’m bracing myself for the uptick in the pace of things. Sounds like your daughter’s got quite the busy schedule! Hope she has a great school year.

Is field hockey what you call “normal” hockey played on the grass with a hooked stick, to differentiate it from ice hockey? Cool that your daughter’s playing that. Our temperatures are back to normal and although I had to back-weight my week’s sessions due to So Much Work I have survived running three days in a row and got my usual weekly mileage sorted out.

They do manage to keep busy in HS with the sports schedule. It is a lot to keep up with for sure. I agree 100% that lifting weights is the key to aging slower and stronger. Have a great week

So glad that J is enjoying all her activities including field hockey! Good for her!
I saw some very early signs of fall this week on my trail runs. It won’t be long now.

Wow, Thing 2 has a busy schedule!
That field hockey game looks like great fun.
I guess the school’s football team is made up of young men. Is there also a girls’ football team or is that not a thing?
Jenn says
These kids and their extracurriculars are no joke! I feel like a chauffeur lol! Of course it’s worth it, but dang!
Love those Friday Night Lights!
No summer here. I would love just a tiny cut in the heat and humidity.

Sometimes when I see kids schedules I don’t know how they can accomplish so much – they are always so busy! That being said, it’s nice that they have so many fun things in their schedules too. Those Friday Night Lights games are always so much fun!

My husband was a band guy and loves to take kiddo to football games just for the band. You do great keeping up with workouts with such a busy schedule.
I have been really good with weight lifting, but could do more of the HIITs.
Jessie says
Busy, busy! You are super mom 🙂
Field hockey looks like such a fun sport!

My favorite song of our marching band so far was the Beatles song Hey Jude. You wouldn’t think it would be a good one, but the trumpet solo was amazing and the band sounded so good. We don’t have field hockey at our school, but lacrosse is getting pretty popular for the girls. Have fun with all of the sports and activities!
