Even though official fall is almost a month away, I turned the corner this week, and started to embrace it. It was a week of settling into the school routine. My workouts were sort of an after-thought but I got them done…for the most part. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles, Lower Body Strength
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, rest
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Tabata + Arms + Core
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, rest
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Tabata, Upper Body Strength + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
It’s finally sunflower season here and I celebrated with a run on a nearby sunflower-filled trail. It warmed up again a bit this week, but overall nothing to complain about. I’ll take as much summer as Mother Nature wants to give us, because winter seems to go on forever here.
It was week three of the school year here and my evenings were filled with various Open Houses, Marching Band Expos and Field Hockey games. I am single parenting again and I’m not thrilled the Caveman is missing all the school related stuff.
As much as I loathed when Halloween stuff started showing up in July, now I’m ready to embrace the goodness of the fall season. I might even be enjoying some fall-scented candles and a decorative pumpkin or two might have been dragged home. Suddenly I’m welcoming the prospect of roasted fall veggies, sheet pan meals, sweater weather and everything else.

I’ll leave you with a pic of my little deck garden. Many of the flowers are fading and going to seed, and I’ll have to add in the mums soon, but for now, it’s my little sanctuary.
How was your week? Are you hanging on to summer? Are you looking forward to fall?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Your little deck garden looks like a lovely taste of tranquility. It’s crazy how the back-to-school busyness seems like such a distant memory for me. That’s a bittersweet thought! I’m hanging on, quite stubbornly, to summer because winter lasts too long in Iowa as well (and it seems the fall season offers only a split-second of transition).

What a beautiful garden. I have to switch because the deer eat everything elsewhere.
I’m holding on to summer.
Yay. For sunflowers. They are so lovely.
Hope your daughters have a good sun year

Your deck garden is beautiful!
Btw, I’m reading and commenting as we drive from Chipping Camden. It was so charming! We will definitely try to stay there next time we come to the Cotswold. We just walked around and had lunch there and are on to the next village!

I was definitely holding on to summer at the beach! And the summer weather will be here for a few weeks longer at least.
I do not miss the hectic schedule of those back-to-school days.
I love your deck garden – so lovely!

No signs of fall around here yet but I will be the first to embrace it when it starts showing up. I don’t pull out any fall decor until October 🙂
Glad school year seems to be off to a good start!

Yep, I went to my daughter’s open house this week and she went to the first high school football game (she’s only in eighth grade but she’ll be in the marching band next year.) It’s definitely starting to feel like fall (not temperature-wise, of course.) Glad to hear you’re embracing the pumpkin season! I’ll start getting my fall stuff out this week.

Your garden is really lovely! I thought I had some tomatoes that reseeded themselves (I didn’t plant a thing this year) but I don’t know what it actually is — they look like tiny tomatoes but I realized eventually that tomatoes flower with yellow blossoms, not white, LOL!
I will totally embrace cooler mornings and not having to rush out to walk Bandit. Summer isn’t quite gone here yet (with predicted highs of 90 Monday & Tuesday).
The sunflower field Darlene went to doesn’t allow dogs. Boo. Although I understand it.

I’m with you on feeling v. official seasons. It’s why summer is Memorial-Labor Day. We always went back to schol after Labor Day so that was a part of it too, plus long weekend to long weekend.
I don’t mind early Halloween, but Pumpkin Spice needs to stay in its lane

As soon as September hits, I’m ready for all things Fall – pumpkin, sweaters, etc. – so I totally understand what you mean. I’m looking forward to a break in the humidity.

If I had a deck like that I’d be doing all my workouts there! It looks so lovely and peaceful.
I love that photo of the marching band on the football field – the sunset is perfect.
I saw sunflowers and pumpkins in the fields last week – autumn is definitely approaching fast!

I’m not a PSL girl, but I did grab a salted caramel cold brew today. Yum.
It’s just so hot still. 80 degrees at 5:30 AM. It’s hard to get in the headspace for fall like that.

Your garden is lovely!

I love your tranquility garden. Very pretty. Great workout week. You remind me that I need to get more heavy strength into my schedule. I look forward to the fall mostly because of the weather. It’s my favorite time of year although I do miss my sunrises early in the morning. Have a great week.

Your deck garden is/was so pretty! I’m a little behind in reading running blogs but slowly catching up.
How cool that you could run on a sunflower trail! Maybe I should look for one in my area.
I am ready for all the Fall and Halloween stuff! 😀
