It’s time once again to sit down and catch up over a cup of something nice. Iced or hot, it’s all good.
In honor of Cari’s Alaskan adventure, I pulled out my old mug from the Red Dog Saloon in Juneau. I can’t believe 9 years have passed since we’ve been to Alaska. Speaking of coffee, oddly I’m drinking less of it these days. The cutback was totally unintentional but over the past several weeks I found myself wanting less and ending up with leftover java in the pot. So now I make less. I’m good with a cup or two. Go figure.
Over coffee I’d ask you if your significant other is difficult to buy for. The Caveman is preposterously difficult because he basically buys himself whatever he wants. I runfess I haven’t yet gotten him a birthday gift yet (his birthday was in July) but I think I found a fun gift idea. He loves Ozzy like no other dog we’ve ever had so I’m going to get a fun pic of Oz on canvas from Mr & Mrs Paw. He’d love that, right? Of course I may throw in some Balega socks and maybe some of his favorite beef jerky, because I’m thoughtful like that…just not prompt.
Over coffee I’d ask you how your garden grows. While I only have one container of tomatoes this year, I finally got the first tomatoes of the year. They aren’t huge but they sure are delicious. Hopefully there are many more to come.
Last I’d tell you I’m taking great delight in watching the visitors who enjoy our bird bath. While it is mostly frequented by birds, we do get a frog in it now and again and then of course certain squirrels enjoy it too.
What would you tell me over coffee? Do you buy gifts for your spouse? Are they difficult to buy for?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date. I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

My hubs is impossible to buy for. We don’t exchange birthday gifts anymore. We do get each other small things for Christmas. I’m even struggling with getting gifts for my boys!
We’re getting some tomatoes too–we have to pick them before the squirrels do. They take a bite and then throw them on the ground…
Marcia says
The squirrels haven’t gotten to mine yet but I’ll have to keep an eye.

My garden does not groweth at all! I am a terrible black thumb. The squad of deer in our backyard eats everything we have. My hubs is also impossible to buy for bc he just gets what he wants I think the photo idea is always great. Looking forward to see it
Coco says
My husband is so hard to buy for for the same reason — and because he’s very particular. For Christmas he sends links to what he’d like …. The Ozzy print sounds like a great idea.
I’ve got a few cherry tomatoes ready to pick in my Aerogarden — does that count?
I really enjoy two cups of coffee. On the weekend I’ll sip a third, but it’s just procrastinating. 😉
Darlene Cardillo says
I am sad when I see your tomatoes. The deer ate ALL mine!!!
I usually enjoy one cup of coffee but lately I am needing TWO!!
Jenn says
My garden does not grow. Period.
My husband is THE WORST for gifts. I love giving and receiving gifts, and he makes the experience awful. He doesn’t care about clothes, technology, sentimental things or anything like that. So I give him gift cards for massages or tickets to concerts.

We don’t have bird baths, but we do have the fountains which the birds just love. Squirrels,, check. Chipmunks check too. Including Albie recently! Frogs, no! We don’t live near a body of water although we have had the occasional toad.
My husband is also very difficult to buy for. And of course he takes his own photos of Bandit (he just loves male dogs, apparently, he was the same with Chester) and gets them printed on canvases. So that doesn’t work for me! He is very, very difficult to buy for.
I think it’s been about 14 years since we went to Alaska. The last trip we were actually able to take my FIL on. Even then it wasn’t easy (dementia).
Jenny says
Ha ha, my husband does this really annoying thing every December. While he’s out buying Christmas gifts he gets a bunch of stuff for himself- no, no NO! That’s not how it works! He ends up getting things I would have gotten him, which makes it really difficult. This year he might seriously get a canvas pic of our cat.
I’m envious of your tomatoes! I’ve tried to grow tomatoes down here with no luck, and all the ones I get at the store taste terrible. I can’t even remember what a delicious tomato tastes like.
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, the Ozzy gift sounds perfect! Our tomatoes are coming to life, all of a sudden. Now its a mad rush to get them picked, sliced & diced and either eaten or frozen.

I’ve come to the point where I stopped drinking coffee altogether. Now I love black tea with a lot of milky foam.
I think my husband prefers “acts of kindness” instead of things… he likes it if I make his tea in the morning. Or if I make a special meal for him.
Come to think of it, that is something that I could do more often. 🙂
Renée says
Do you think you want less coffee right now because of the weather? Because I also feel like I’m drinking less and WAY more ice cold water.
My guy is also hard to buy for, but… we actually don’t do gifts for the “traditional” days/ holidays. He’s quite specific about tee-shirts, so I always try to find and buy cool and different tees for him. In fact, he’s known for funny/odd/artsy tees. Otherwise he buys what he wants with his money. He came home a couple weeks ago with a(nother) keyboard that is now in the dining room. We’ll have a recording studio here soon haha!
Can you believe I have a garden this year! Consumables are rosemary, mint, thyme and strawberries! So awesome, I love it!
We only have neighborhood cats around here, which are pretty ok for the most part until they poop in my front garden. Not so cute when I catch them doing that…

I love that mug from Alaska. I only bought one from Starbucks and made sure to get it at the airport as soon as we landed. 🙂 That is a great gift idea for your husband. I am sure he will like it. I’ve also cut down on coffee. I drink it in the morning before my run and that’s it. I used to also take another mug to school or stop at Starbucks or DD on my way to work. Once in a while I do that but not everyday like before.

My husband is impossible to buy for! My boys and I have a running joke that he doesn’t use any of the gifts we buy. I think the Ozzy print is a fun idea!
I’m in a constant battle with the chipmunks to save my strawberry plant…and I’m losing 🙁
