Can you believe it’s mid-July already? Summer sure flies. I’m going to pretend I did not notice that the school stuff is already out at Target (nooo!), because that’s just rude. Here’s how the workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles and rest
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, and more rest
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Speedwork on the road, 4 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Strength, Cycle 30 min + Core
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Bootcamp + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Track 4 miles + Sauna/Stretch
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength + Sauna/Stretch
I started the week with a rest day because I was tired and achy from Sunday’s strength workout. On Tuesday I just could not get up so I opted for more rest. It’s rare but it happens.
On Wednesday I headed to the track only to find it packed at 6:30am. Going forward if I want to use it I’m going to have to get there before 6am. It’s a tall order but it’s worth it. I opted for some pickups on the road and trails instead. It was fine. Let the record show that back in the day when speedwork was part of marathon training, I did not have access to a track. I did my speedwork in a quiet neighborhood with a nice loop. It all worked out.
On Saturday I did the unthinkable: I headed to the track again. This time I found it totally empty. Score! The heavy overcast and a slight breeze made conditions pretty optimal, although of course I was dripping with sweat. I’m already feeling a tad more fit speed-wise and my Garmin seems to approve. Much (ok all) of the motivation for the track might have come from a certain package that arrived from Beaverton, OR.
My personal shoe fairy sent me the Nike Zoom Alphafly Next%. See my maiden run in them here. Stay tuned for a full review. As much as I adore my trails, I do love to run as fast as I possibly can sometimes.
On a non-running note, Zenaida, Wendy and I met for lunch. It was so nice to see them and such a nice break in my loong work day!

I’ve got a quick strength interval workout that’s perfect to combine with a short walk or run. I’m all for working out smarter vs harder these days!
How was your week? Do you enjoy a good speed session?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

My speed session is usually a race. But I do need to head to the track for one.
I used to love Nikes. But now my darn feet won’t let me.
My week was uneventful which is good this coming week work will be hell.

I haven’t done a track workout since I started running with Scooby, but I do miss them sometimes. Does the track have lights? It’s daqrk before 6 am here now …
It’s so nice that your shoe fairy is able to be so generous! Those shoes look fast and fun!
Glad you felt better after your extra rest days.

When I ran with a group we did track workouts near me. Then I used to go on my lonesome in the Summer, but I don’t think it’s open to the public anymore. I’ve done many a speedwork on bike paths — works for me — sometimes I think it actually works better!
Your shoe fairy is very nice. 🙂 And I’m sure it was great to get together with Wendy & Zenaida!

Way to go on the track! As you know, the track is a bit of a nemesis for me. I’m working on building that relationship, or at least getting to a point where I don’t dread it as much. I have full access to the college track, and it’s about a 7-minute run from my driveway…I really need to utilize it! I’m glad you took some extra rest…I’m doing such a thing today. It’s not an easy thing for me, but I need to embrace my downtime a bit more.

Look at the meetup! Lovely!! Not much running for me last week (in the 80s earlier in the week, plus I had a horsefly bite on my ankle, got runs in early on Thurs and ran to parkrun on Sat and some of the way back) or next (in the high 90s Mon and Tue which we just don’t have here – it will be a struggle to stay OK in ourselves). Love the shoes, are they super-bouncy?

Sometimes we just need sleep. I just was tickled to realize there’s a track only a ferry hop away. Much better than the one I have to run five miles to.
I saw the school stuff at Target and I cringed, but the backpacks were cute.

Surprisingly I’ve come to enjoy speed sessions more lately too. I need to find a speed shoe to try as well.

Oh, i’m intrigued! I can’t wait for the shoe review!!!
Yes, I also noticed the school stuff is out. The schools here start August 10th which is… awfully early. Summer is flying by!

I agree that this month is flying by. Hard to believe that it’s already mid-July. We have back to school stuff out in the stores as well – I’ve even started to see sales for supplies and book bags, lol.
I can’t believe the track was already packed at 6:30am – that’s crazy! I absolutely love this sneakers – both the design and the colors!
Wendy says
Those shoes sure are pretty! You looked like you were flying in them on your IG post. I hope it felt that way! You know I love to run fast–I don’t do it very much anymore so, it’s always a treat.
I was at Target last week and they were setting up the BTS stuff. Time is moving quickly!
It was great to see you and Zenaida!

So nice that your shoe fairy came through again 😉
Interesting that your track has been so busy…makes me wonder what’s happening at our local track. I do love a good speed session!
I saw the first back-to-school ad on TV yesterday – just so wrong!

I haven’t had good luck with Nikes, but it would interesting to try those. Glad you liked them!
Is your track open to the public? A lot of the high school tracks near us right now are totally locked up- I’d have to climb a pretty high fence to get in, but I’ve definitely been tempted!
Catrina says
Yay for lunch with Wendy and Zenaida!
I’d love to try the Alphafly! It must feel great to run in them.
With “my” track, it’s precisely the other way around: during the week, there’s not much going on. But on the weekends there are many events and sports meet-ups. But you are right: you can do a speed workout anywhere!
Donna says
I haven’t been on a track in years, since when I lived in another city. The tracks near my home now are always locked so I have to do my speed work elsewhere. It’s fine, though. I haven’t done any speed sessions in a while so I’ll be due again this fall.
Jenn says
Cute shoes, but speed is not my jam. I am a slow and steady lady.
Love that you got to meet up with some bloggy friends! So fun!
I can’t believe July is almost over. This has been the strangest year.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Oooooh! Nice shoes! I hope you love them, I’ve heard so many great things about those. I do all of my speedwork on a bike path these days. When I’m coaching we will use the track, but I prefer my bike path!
Looks like a fun meetup. How nice!
