Just like that, summer is officially here and it’s also time to crack open that runfessional. Let’s get started shall we?
It’s rare that I see anyone on the trails when I run, but recently I came across a guy who was out for a walk. That’s not really noteworthy, but I runfess his Speedo caught my eye. Who wears abbreviated swim trunks to walk on a tail? What may be even more odd, is he was still out there walking in his Speedo 90 minutes later when I was out with the dog. Marathon walk anyone?
I told you about my red-eye flight home from hell here. What I didn’t tell you is that the NCAA Track and Field Championships took place in Eugene OR the same weekend I was in Beaverton. My flight home was packed with athletes going home from that. I runfess I couldn’t help checking out their shoes, sweatsuits and backpacks and wondering how freaking fast they all were. I also runfess that when I heard a guy in my row saying we were connecting in Orlando because his bag tags said ORD, I realized perhaps some fast runners are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Thing 1 turns 21 on Saturday and I runfess I’m feeling sort of sad about not seeing her on her big day. This will be the first time ever that I haven’t seen her on her birthday. Of course we celebrated when she was home, but it isn’t the same.
Ok your turn. What have you to runfess? Do you know what ORD is?
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

We’ve had a few birthdays with the celebrants not at the table with us. It IS tough, but at least with technology, we’re able to sort of be “with” them. That would be exciting seeing so many athletes in one place…I’d be checking out their gear, too! Umm, the Speedo Dude???? Whatever, LOL
Darlene Cardillo says
Chicago O’Hare – d’uh.
Happy b-day to your daughter..
Speedo on a walk? Ick.
Jenny says
Of course I know what ORD is! I prefer to fly into MDW.
Walking in a speedo just doesn’t sound comfortable! It seems like it would be kind of… tight and hot.
Sorry you won’t be with your daughter on her birthday! My son was at school this year for his birthday so I know- it’s hard. (I still say she looks just like you!)
Wendy says
Maybe he was training for a tri? Or just feeling himself? LOL
I’m pretty sure I wasn’t with either boy on #21, but we did celebrate around that time. I’m sure they had a much more fun celebration without me! Hang in there, mama!
Coco says
So where did he keep his house/car keys? 😉
It would make more sense if ORD was Orlando. Even if you know the Chicago airport is called O’Hare, where do the R and D come from? When her Dad was visiting her at Clemsen, my now daughter-in-law’s father accidentally booked into Greeneville SC instead of Greeneville NC — at least it was only a 4 hour drive ….
I runfess I was too bummed about my latest running injury to put up a runfessions post. 🙁
Deborah Brooks says
All I can think about is all the chafing! LOL. Vary familiar with ORD 🙂 How do you get on a plane and not know where you are going?! It is hard not to be with the kiddos on their birthdays. They are all growing up too fast!
Michelle says
Oh my gosh too funny about the ORD comment – good thing his talents lie elsewhere 😉
I’m with Deborah – my first thought about Speedo man was so much chaffing!! Yikes.
It is hard to not be with them on their birthdays – sending hugs mama.
Donna says
The poor guy must not fly that often.
Bizarre about the walker in the speedo. Why on earth would anyone do that? Maybe he likes drawing attention to himself. He would certainly do that dressed like that out on a walk.
Catrina says
I used to work at the airport here in Zurich (I could write a book on that!)
Passengers would always get confused when I tagged their luggage to Chicago with “ORD”.
I learned that Chicago’s IATA code comes from its old name, “Orchard Field Airport”. Coincidence has it that O’Hare also has the letter O.
Useless information, but somehow interesting. 🙂

Wow! I can’t believe Maddie is 21! HBD to her and I hope she’s loving her internship!
We have a speedo guy here on the LFT- at least one that I see often – LOL.
Katie says
In my old neighborhood we had a woman infamous to me and my neighbors known as “Bikini Lady”. Same thing – out for a walk, in running shoes and bikini, just walking… not heading to a pool. Never found out what was up with that!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I do see people out for long walks while I’m doing my long runs, but thankfully never in a speedo!
I can only imagine how sad it must make you feel that you weren’t able to celebrate with your with your daughter. But it’s just the start — you do raise them to set them free; it’s the circle of life!
Cari says
Airport codes are so weird!
MSY Is always the one that gets me. In part because I’ve only been there twice, and Orlando is weird too. I do know ORD. Luckily my two are easy: LGA and JFK. Possibly the only one where it’s also its name?
Speedo. Eww. Chafing too!
Renée says
Oh my. Speedo Man. Not my favorite sight even at the beach or pool let alone the trail.
I definately know what ORD is 🙂
Sorry you weren’t able to be with Thing 1 on her birthday. The older they get, the harder it seems to be. She’s got a great gig going on though in a great city and I’m sure she is living it up at the moment!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Haha to the ORD comment! That is awesome about your daughter’s internship! How is she liking it there?
Denise says
I would’ve been weirded out by the guy in the speedo. Sounds like a pervert, but who knows, people are so weird.
Jenn says
ORD makes more sense than MCO! Sigh.
I remember that my mom was with me for my 21st. She so badly wanted to take me out for my first legal drink, but we hit the clubs at midnight so I could have my shots when it was official. Oops. In fairness, I lived in Miami then, so…
I’m glad you got to celebrate, even if it wasn’t on the exact day. Hugs.
