With Thing 1 finally home from college, the gang is all here and I am loving it! As per usual, my workouts were very much on autopilot this week, as work continues to be challenging. Here’s what went down:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Run 4 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles, Bike Bootcamp + Core
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Run 3 miles, Strength
Friday: Walk 4 miles, 30 min cycle + core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Run 5 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength
Weather-wise we were more “seasonal” here, meaning the extreme heat skedaddled and we had to turn on the furnace again. Hate that. By the end of the week though, the steam was back.
The Fitter Stronger Faster Challenge I coach ended and this cute medal arrived in the mail. It is SO gratifying as a coach to see people hitting PRs and running paces they’ve never seen before. The Summer Challenge gets underway on June 6 and registration is open now!
Thing 1 will only be home a couple of weeks before she heads to Beaverton for her internship, so I plan to make the most of it. This week my FIL (a retired law school professor) is being honored with a scholarship in his name where he taught. We planned to all road trip over for the ceremony but with Covid breaking out all over lately, I’m not sure the ceremony is the best idea for an 87 yr old man, so the jury is still out on that.
Thing 2 secured her spot in the high school Honor Band for next year. Our high school is so large there are 750 kids in the band program and 5 levels of bands, with Honor Band at the top. There are only 3 flute spots in the Honor Band. I’m very proud of her!
Runfession Friday Linkup
The Runfessional will open this Friday, before we say farewell to May! Join us!
I’ll leave you with this sunrise pic. I am cherishing the long daylight while it lasts!
How was your week? Does it feel like summer?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!
Kimberly Hatting says
Huge congrats to your resident flutist! Your high school, with its large student body, is comparable to a small Iowa town! I’m making the most of all the daylight as well…truly my favorite time of year! Our weather suffered major whiplash this weekend with a nasty 50-degree temperature nosedive…
Deborah Brooks says
It is so nice to have the kids home again! I have my son for now and I am soaking in the time with him. Work sounds busy but good! Will you go out to Oregon this summer too? Have not been there in ages! Also not ready for the intense heat of summer but here it is this weekend
Coco says
Yay on Thing 1 being home for a few weeks and huge congrats to Thing 2.
And, congrats to you for coaching that challenge and good luck with the next one.
When work took over my Thursday I only got in a 1 mile walk with Scooby. At least your base is 4 miles.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
That’s so great about honors band. Huge congrats to her!! My son just found out he will be one of the squad leaders for marching band (trumpets). I’m so happy for him.
I hope you have a wonderful time enjoying your family all together again!
Jenny says
Yes, my son is home right now and it feels SO GOOD to have a full house! Congrats to your daughter- there’s a lot of competition for flute spots. My daughter is going into eighth grade and all I hear about is, will she be able to play in the top band in high school? What do I think? How many flutes will they take? AAAAUUGH! I wish she had played something less common like bassoon.
Sounds like you had a good week of workouts in spite of your busy schedule. You got in a good mix of running, cycling, walking and strength- nice job!
Catrina says
Your Thing 2 must be very talented, you can be so proud of her.
Is Beaverton far away from where you are?
In any case, I hope that work will quieten down a bit for you so that you can get to enjoy some time with Thing 1. That time is so precious!
Michelle says
Huge congrats to your daughter for making Honor Band! And how nice to have your college girl home for a bit. Enjoy having a full house! Hopefully, work will settle down some for you.
Darlene says
Enjoy your full house.
Summer returned this weekend big time.
It’s raining now and cooling off

Glad you’ve got your family back together! Fun! Sad that you have to debate on whether or not to go to your FIL’s ceremony. It’s hard to make decisions in today’s world.
Donna says
Congrats to your daughter! That’s a tough decision with your FIL. We had record highs here over the weekend but thankfully the temps dropped a bit after some rain on Sunday.

So nice to have everyone together under one roof. I know you must be thrilled!
i love the medal you received for the Fitter Stronger Faster Challenge too.
Cari says
Woohoo on Honor Band and what an honor for your FIL, even if the trip doesn’t work. That’s a cool medal! Congrats to all of your athletes
Jenn says
I am so glad your heart and home are full!
Congratulations to your daughter. That is a HUGE band, which makes her accomplishment even more special. Well done!
Wendy says
How nice that everyone is home!!! M has been in and out since the end of the semester–he watched Cocoa while we were in Bham. She enjoyed Madison but is happy to be back home, lol. I’m always happy to see my boys!
Congrats to J and best of luck to M on her internship! You’re going out there to visit, right?

Lots of lovely family news. And well done for getting that sunrise in – I keep missing them now as it’s too early even for me!
