While I was busy bitching about our cold/snowy/windy weather, April seems to have just about slipped right outta here. Before we welcome May in all of her fragrant, frost-free (I wish) glory, let’s open the Runfessional. Because everything is better when you start fresh, am I right?
I’m all for bidding old man winter a fond farewell, but with warmer weather comes critters. I runfess I’ve already moved two turtles out of harm’s way and swerved around a third. I’d have stopped and helped him/her, except someone was already pulled over, waiting for me to pass. I also found broken duck eggs in our driveway, which makes me sad, because I’m almost certain it’s because predators got to the nest, wherever it might be.
There are also the woodpeckers who are busy pecking not one but two new holes in our siding. They got really smart this year and made the holes super high up where I don’t dare climb with my duct tape.
I runfess I had probably the best run of the year the other day. I banged out 5 miles on the trails and I swear I felt like I could run all day. Later it dawned on me why I felt so good. I was well carbed up. Since using my Lumen and dialing in my macros, my carbs stay pretty well under control, which apparently is not optimal for running. After a long weekend in Atlanta where I threw all dietary efforts to the wind (and left my Lumen at home) running got a whole lot more enjoyable. I am reminded that my best-fueled for running body may not be my leanest body.
Speaking of Atlanta, I was there for a mother/daughter sorority event. Among other things, we did a cookie decorating course. I runfess I kind of wish it was a mother/daughter track meet because we could’ve spanked that. Our cookies were pretty embarrassing.
Ok your turn! What have you to runfess? Do you track macros? Are you more proficient at cookie decorating or track work?
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

I runfess (dietfess?) that I’ve never tracked macros. I have done some cookie decorating, but I keep that pretty low-key. My art geek self refuses to invest so much time into a piece of “art” that will be eaten in less than 30 seconds, LOL. The cookie decorating class, though, sounds like a fun mother/daughter activity 😉 Ewww on the snake hole…knock wood, I have not (yet) seen any such thing in my yard or even around the lake (when I’ve been on the trail).

Interesting about the carbs making you feel better on your runs. We have been back on a low carb diet for two weeks now as this was recommended by Kai’s cardiologist.
Running feels a lot harder! I could never race like this.
Definitely track over cookie decorating! 😂🤣

I think your cookies are really cheery!
I hear you on the carbs and body. I’m not giving up carbs, but I do have to keep them in check. Even so I’ll always be a curvy girl — good thing my husband likes that.
We have lots of woodpeckers in our neighborhood. Thankfully so far they’ve left our home intact. My SIL once had problems with them, too. Now OTOH no doubt it’s soon time for Bandit to start chasing rabbits . . .

I am a carb lover. And I need them before and after a run.
I prefer undecorated cookies. But it sounds like fun to do with someone else.
Michelle says
So interesting about the carbs and your run. I’ve been using my Lumen with much more consistency and am finally seeing a fat-burning 2 each morning. I haven’t had a good carbed-up run lately, I wonder if I would feel the difference.
Just a big no on that snake hole! Yikes!

I seem to run much better when I’m proteined up! It does seem to me that no matter what I eat, my body will pad my belly. Ahhh menopause…
There are SO many woodpeckers in the forest preserve. I don’t remember seeing such a large number before.
I’m sure you are missing M! Looks like you had such a fun weekend!

That’s great insight on your diet and running. It’s nice that there is an upside to moderate over-indulging (if there is such a thing). I guess it depends on your priority — or why people try carb cycling? It’s all to complicate to me and triggers unhealthy obsession.
LOL on your cookies. They look good to me!

It is a gift when those magic runs happen. Figuring out the carbs and proteins that work best for your body definitely takes some trial and error. I also think sometimes the magic runs are related to where I am in my cycle.Your cookies look great and sounds like it was a fun weekend together

Okay, so next time I’m hitting that bag of pretzels after work, I’ll remind myself that I’m fueling for my next run!
I want to do a cookie decorating course! Whenever we decorate cookies we have big ambitions, but they always come out looking like… well, kind of like yours, ha ha. Actually I think yours look okay- I’m sure they were delicious. Sounds like a fun weekend!

I’m all about the carbs! I guess that’s why I run so much 😉
Love that you’d have done better in the track meet than the cookie bake! Me too, friend!
Donna says
I usually don’t decorate my cookies just because it’s so much more work! My daughter and I would do well at a running event together. There should be more of those!
Denise says
It’s a nice feeling when you have that great run that can seemingly last forever. I don’t count carbs but I have been trying to cut back a little. I do best with protein the night before and carbs in the morning before a race.
Cookie decorating is fun but I never eat the cookies because they alway seem like too much.
Renée says
Even Ugly Duckling cookies are pretty to someone 🙂 I’d have to runfess that I probably am better at cookie baking at this stage…
We’ve got some really busy and loud woodpeckers at the park. I swear the sound carries throughout but I don’t actually see them. I think they are really high up.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Woodpeckers! I’ve never seen one except in the cartoons. I love carbs – don’t we all? 🙂 I definitely would have done better at track than cooking decorating.
Jenn says
Well I love your cookies. I hope you had fun!
I do not love snake holes. We have a couple in the yard. Ick.
