It warmed up a tad for part of the week. Except for Monday, the Caveman was away on business, leaving Thing 2 and I to enjoy several “girls’ nights” which were loads of fun. Lots of Olympics coverage was consumed. Here’s how the week in workouts went. I kind of lied about running off the holiday weight, because I didn’t run that much. My workouts were consistent though, and more importantly, my diet was on point. More on that later.
Monday: Walk 20 minutes x 3, Eminem Ride, Core
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 4 miles
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, HIIT workout, Core
Friday: Walk 4 miles Bike Bootcamp, Yoga
Saturday: Walk 30 mins x 3, Soul Run + Tread Bootcamp
Sunday: Walk, Heavy Strength
I got outside to run once this week, alas the trails were still too deep in snow for my liking. I made an effort to ride my bike more and I’m calling it a success with two sessions.
Valentine’s Day is the final day of the ZOOMA Love Run Challenge, which I’ve been coaching since the first of the year. Isn’t the medal a beauty? I love a shot of vivid color at a drab time of year.
I finally lost the holiday pounds I managed to gain, but I’ve also gained muscle, lost fat and am feeling great. I’m still using my Lumen metabolism tracker consistently, tracking my macros, and I continue to learn so much. I’m waking up in fat burn mode more often now and the Lumen has reinforced my theory that fasting doesn’t work very well for me in that I enter ketosis pretty quickly, and my body starts breaking down muscle for fuel. If you’re intrigued, right now use VAL80 to save $80 on Lumen during their Valentine’s Day Sale and save an additional 10% with code MARCIA10.
I got the all-clear on my mammogram but the news wasn’t as good for my thyroid ultrasound. Apparently there is a “very small” nodule on it. Hashimoto thyroid patients are at increased risk of nodules, and there’s a 90+% chance it is benign. According to my dr, there is no need for concern right now but we will watch it. Ugh.
This s’mores lava cake was entirely too sweet in the most delicious way.
We aren’t huge fans of Valentine’s Day but I did send our college girl a fun care package (of course Thing 2 got one as well) and the Caveman surprised me with reservations at Main Street Social. It was nice to get out, as it is a rare occurrence.
Let’s Run Toward Spring. Last call! This challenge gets underway on Valentine’s Day! The details are here. Sign up to join me here.

Happy Valentine’s Day! I have stuff for the guys but getting together with them is a challenge! They are busy. We’re not doing much here for VD. Glad you got good news on the mammogram but ugh to the thyroid. Hopefully, it will remain quiet.
Jessie says
Great news on the mammogram and I hope the nodule stays immaterial. Still scary I’m sure.
I don’t always do much for valentines, but I did get Dustin a small gift, we will actually still be in Montana with another couple so it’s a double date post snowboarding dinner I think!
Glad the Lumen tracker is working for you! Winter is a challenging time of year for losing weight so kudos to you for overcoming the challenges.

No Super Bowl here. Watching the Olympics has been a bit rocky at the start, we don’t have cable and the antenna started to act up. Completely missed the men’s free skate for team, so thankful it taped for the individuals because Nathan Chen was amazing!
Well, Valentine’s is tomorrow, so no, we haven’t celebrated it yet. I thought I’d visit my mom, but she plays bridge on Monday so that’s why I went this week. Sushi is on the menu for tomorrow & it’s been far too long!
That cake looks amazing. 🙂
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
The information about your diet is very interesting! I did see a few extra pounds creep up on me this past holiday. Very challenging for me to avoid all of the sweets during winter because I love sweets!
Deborah Brooks says
I did send both my kids a Valentine’s day package but we are not so into over here. My husband is going to make me homemade pizza tomorrow which is always a nice treat for me. The Lumen sure does give some great info sometimes I yell at it bc it frustrates me. Paying attention to macros really helps me the most as well. Hope you have some better weather this week!

That Zooma medal is beautiful! I’m not much of a WInter Olympics fan, but I have been trying to catch some of the latenight coverage. Gotta say the curling totally put me to sleep last night, LOL You are rocking the daily walking 😉 Awesome job!
Jenny says
I’m not too into Valentine’s Day, but I did send cookies to my son and will make a cake for my husband and daughter. And we’ll watch the Super Bowl tonight, although I don’t really care who wins, which takes some of the fun away.
I lost weight over the holidays (thank you, Covid) but can tell I’m gaining it back- I can feel it when I button my pants, sigh. I have a feeling the Lumen tracker would tell me to stop bingeing on pretzels after work. I agree that diet is more important than the workouts you do (darn!)
Sounds like you had a great week- we’ve been watching the Olympics too (well, mostly me.) i’m enjoying it!
Michelle says
Great to hear that you continue to learn more from the Lumen. I had a solid week of fat-burning and am starting to slowly figure a few things out.
I’ve been watching the Olympics too though I wish some of it wasn’t on so late! Thankful for the following day’s replays.
Sorry for the stress of the thyroid – hopefully all remains quiet.
Looking forward to starting the Spring Challenge!
Coco says
Sounds like a good week, all in all. I have not shed my holiday pounds by running or otherwise. My plans to dial things in this month went out the window with my work stress, working late, eating really late, etc. I’ve got a better plan for this week.
Cari says
Mom still sends me care packages too even though none of us care much for V Day. That medal is cute! Zooma does well with those, as you know from that video where my niece loves it.
Yay on the holiday weight. Fingers crossed on the thyroid
Catrina says
Congrats on losing the holiday weight, Marcia! It’s especially great that you gained muscle, too. Wonderful!
Organizing a run challenge like in the dark winter months is a great idea. I’m sure the participants will love the medal!
Oh, and how is the dead deer doing? Still decomposing or has it been collected?
Black Knight says
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Sorry for the thyroid, I hope that the things go well and it remains quiet.
Well done on losing the weight and gaining muscle!
I understand that with all that snow it’s impossible to run outdoor; however the landscape is magic!
Kim G says
Happy Valentine’s Day! That Love run medal is so pretty 🙂
Sorry about the news about your thyroid, but hope it stays quiet and doesn’t give any cause for concern.
