It was another cold, snowy week that limited the distance of our outdoor walks. We do what we can and call it good. Here’s how my workouts went:
Monday: 10 min walk x 3, Core, Sauna
Tuesday: Walk 10 min x 3, 40 min trail run, Core, Sauna
Wednesday: Walk 10 min x 3, 30 min TM run + 10 min cooldown run, Core, Sauna
Thursday: Walk 20 min x3, Upper Body Strength, Core, Sauna
Friday: Walk 10 min x 3, Yoga, Core, Sauna
Saturday: Walk 30 minutes, TM 40 minutes, Stretch, Sauna
Sunday: Walk 30 minutes, Heavy Strength, Sauna
This week I got out on the trails once. Once was enough to realize the snow is now too deep for a decent run. It was truly more of a trudge and my legs below the knee felt strained in an odd way afterward. That’s enough for me to stop the snowy trail madness for now.
I took the proverbial bull by the horns and had all my annual testing done. Physical, 6 mos. dental, endocrinologist for thyroid, and eye exam. This week just mammogram and thyroid ultrasound are on tap. I loathe getting this stuff knocked out and I runfess I blew some of them off last year (Covid is a great excuse).
Peloton
So the verdict is in and I am keeping the Peloton app for now. I do enjoy the meditations and the bike stuff. While I’ve been playing the runs while I’m on the treadmill, I really shouldn’t as I do not follow the prompts at all, and more than a few times they’ve cued a significant incline increase that I totally disagree with so I always do my own thing. While I fell off the wagon during week 3 of Andy Speer’s strength program (I was doing my own thing again, but I really do enjoy Andy’s personality) this week I finished Emma’s Crush Your Core II. It’s been a fun 4 weeks.

Upper Body Burn. I runfess this little sequence set my triceps on fire in the best way. Grab your weights and let’s get after it.
How was your week? Did weather affect your workouts? Are you good about making all the health appointments?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I was on the fence about peleton. But I only used it to bike and run. The runs are not the right length and then once the weather gets nice I don’t want to stay indoors and bike. As far as yoga and working out, I don’t do them but if I did there are so many good ones (such as yours) on You Tube fore free.
I do get FOMO because i like the music playlists so who knows i may go back.
Yes I got all my runs in… I’m crazy like that… no matter how cold, I go out. It’s never as bad as you think it will be.

If I had a race in my future, I’m sure I’d be more diligent about getting outside. But I don’t so the warm pain cave it is. Haha! I totally agree with you about great things on YouTube for free.

I’ve let some health appointments slide, but am slowly getting things scheduled and completed.
I’ve only done a handful of the Peloton treadmill classes and runfess that I completely ignore the incline cues. I much prefer the app for the strength, bike, and stretch classes.
Looking forward to participating in your challenge 🙂

Interesting on Peleton. I’m a bit stuck at the moment as I was liking some of the yoga and stretching but the fingers I hurt in my fall in the half marathon in Oct are making it hard to do a number of things. I have a physio appointment tomorrow so hopefully I’ll have a plan / know what I can do without making it worse.

I feel like i am the only person in the world who doesn’t use the Peloton app. I guess if I did more runs on the TM or didn’t have a strength coach, it would make sense. I’d be like you anyways, still doing my own thing, lol
I too am doing all my health things–but I’m doing something I didn’t see on your list: colonoscopy? Just saying. And I am getting a bone density along with my mammo and ultrasound. I swear, there is SO much maintenance for us old folks. Got that surgery done first because, priorities…:p

I did the Emma core program and liked it- it wasn’t over the top, but I don’t need it to be. And it got me into a routine to do core every day for at least 10 minutes. That’s going to be my “streak” 🙂 I don’t do run streaks as I feel like I run a lot of miles and need a complete rest day to prevent injury (though I get every body is different!)
Whoof, running in deep snow is HARD. I’m not surprised you had some weird lower body aches! I’m ready for spring!

I am now up to date on all of my health appointments. I have a bunch this month including more bloodwork so I am on a nutrition mission for the next few weeks. You know I love my Peloton for all things strength and stretching. The only thing I do not do is the running classes. Even if you only use it once or twice a week, it seems like a good deal to me. Running in the snow is not easy! We never get as much as you all do
Kimberly Hatting says
As you saw, the running classes are not a hit for me either. I forgot to mention, I bailed on my firsst-ever running class (the instructor was SO annoying), and even the “replacement” class was dismal (and that was with a favorite instructor). But, I do love the cycling, strength, and stretching. I need to check out the boxing! I do find myself, though, falling victum to the notion that every workout “needs” to be off the Pelo app (just to get credit for it, LOL). Breaking away from that mindset, for my stair workouts last week, was liberating…and Pelo was none the wiser. ha! I’m going to check out Emma’s Core II class…the Core I was kind of meh (I may have bailed on that as well in the final days).

Ahh you just reminded me that it’s time for my 6 month dental check-up. Just made myself a note to call their office tomorrow.
So glad you decided to keep the Peloton app 🙂 I agree that sometimes the cues for running are a bit much – I try to keep up but if the speed is too fast or the incline is too steep, I just do my best.

I get blood drawn every six months to monitor my thyroid, and last year that doctor nagged me into getting a mammogram, colonoscopy, and bone density scan. But I’m waaaaaay overdue for a pap smear, and I think I’m late for the dentist as well. SIGH! Luckily I don’t have to do all these every year- bone density is every other year, and they said I can go five years till the next colonoscopy, woohoo! It does feel good to get these things taken care of.
I don’t do any of the bike or running classes on the Peloton app. For a while I was only using it for yoga, but now I’m doing some strength classes as well. It’s pretty cheap, so I guess it’s worth it.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I almost always heavily modify the Peloton runs. Although of course until recently I couldn’t do inclines. 🙂
I do find sometimes they suck me into working out harder than I intended — sometimes good, sometimes bad.
I’m sorry the trails are now too deep to run. That’s got to be a bummer. Summer is coming, LOL!
Coco says
Ugh, I still haven’t made health appointments since early 2020. My latest excuse was Omicron. I should schedule them before the next variant. 🙁
You know I’m a Pelo-addict. I’m pretty good at doing my own thing with the running workouts. I know my paces and won’t go harder just because Jess Sims says “add it!” 😉 It’s really got me hooked on strength and better and pre-run warm-ups and post-run stretches, and those are big positives!
Catrina says
I admire how disciplined you are with the health checkups. I should get my act together and do that too.
With everyone doing Peloton, their shares should be sky-high, but they’re doing really badly on the stock market over the last few months.
There are rumours that Amazon or Nike will take over Peloton. I don’t think it will have a negative impact on the app, though.
MCM Mama says
I’ve been pretty good about the “big” appointments – mammo, colonoscopy, annual physical, but I really need to see the dentist and the eye doctor soon. I’ve totally used covid as the excuse there.
I’m not that into Peloton, but I’m part of a family plan, so it’s free. I need to experiment more with some of the options out there.
Black Knight says
Yes, weather is affecting my workouts but …. in a positive way thanks to the sunny days.
Sorry for the trails full of snow that don’t allow good runs.
Just this morning I started to plan my periodic tests.
Shathiso says
I haven’t had a health appointment in soooo long, I’m embarrassed to say “years”. But have vowed to do that this year – I can’t do them all at once so thinking of doing one or two a month until I’m done. Glad you’ve managed to do most of yours!
Jenn says
I am awful about the doctor. A goes to all his regularly scheduled appointments, but I’m not as dedicated with myself. My family only went to the doctor when ill, and I’ve just kind of rolled with that. I am trying to improve (I’m in a good groove with the dentist and eye doctor, so it’s progress).

did my comment go to spam or did I never hit enter? I know I bought in to the challenge and can’t wait to hear more
I love Peloton, but yeah very much DIY with the runs since I don’t have a treadmill. I try to pick up the paces but it’s hard to get the amounts exactly right outdoors. Oh well. There are worse things to DIY
I got through Emma’s Core I but bailed on boxing
