Hello February! I’m feeling pretty good about having a full month+ of winter behind us, although there’s plenty more to come. I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and YOU for a little catch up session over something hot.
I’m going with Starbucks Winter Blend with a dash of almond milk and a scoop of collagen. What’ll you have?
Over coffee I’d tell you that by popular demand, I’ve created the Let’s Run Toward Spring Challenge and you are all invited to join. It will start on February 14 and end on the first day of spring (March 20). It’ll be a fun way of riding (or running, walking, swimming, etc.) out the rest of winter in a social way. There’s a $10 fee, I’m going to donate to the American Heart Association in honor of my dad, who was and continues to be my motivation to keep moving away from the disease that killed him, his mom and his siblings. Sign up here for the Run Toward Spring Challenge. The goal is to move a minimum of one mile or 15 minutes every day, totally your choice as to what you do. Oh and there’ll be weekly prizes!
Over coffee I’d ask you if you’ve got any new running/workout gear lately. I’d tell you I’ve been spending like a fiend on tights, tops, you name it. So much so that I’ve proclaimed this month to be #nomorestuffebruary or NMSF for short. That’s right, I had to stand down from all the irresistible things I’ve come across and just say no already. Apparel, fitness gear, and other non-necessities are hereby banned until March.
Over coffee I’d tell you I’ve been trying out IQ Bars and Hydration Mix. I’m impressed the bars are free of gluten, dairy and soy as well as non-GMO. They contain 12g of plant-based protein with only 1 gram of sugar and 3 net carbs. The IQ Drink Mix contains electrolytes and brain nutrients, with 0 sugar and just one carb. It’s designed to be used during workouts, for everyday wellness at work or school. The brain nutrient magteine is purported to boost clarity. focus, attention and productivity.
Over coffee I’d ask you if you are excited for the Olympics. Even though it’s most definitely a weird year with Covid and the games in China and all, you can rest assured that I’ll be watching as much of the coverage as humanly possible. You may know that as a former figure skater, that is my favorite and I’ll be shouting at the TV like a whack job. Men skate first! Bring it!
What would you tell me over coffee? Will you Run Toward Spring with me? Join me for NMSFebruary? What’s your favorite Olympic sport?
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!
Wendy says
I’m excited about ice skating and snow sports too. Especially now with football done, there’s not much to watch, lol
You’re loving those healthy bars and I’m over here loving the Fanny Mae S’Mores mix samples that we keep getting in our Jewel orders. OMG it’s good. I figure if I eat it all, then it’s gone, am I right?
Marcia says
Oh I’ve had that s’mores mix and it is amazing and wicked all at once! I do totally agree with your rationale though!
Darlene says
Yes I love the Winter Olympics. That’s weird because I don’t do any winter sports. Dry excited for the skating.
Those bars look good. Too good.
Michelle says
Those IQ bars look good – I will definitely be checking those out.
Always been a big Olympics fan – watched the team skate competition last night.
Count me in for your Run Towards Spring Challenge 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Those bars look good I will check them out too. How does your challenge work? Do we have to manually track it somewhere or can we use strava? I am not good at manually tracking. I also bought a ridiculous amount of running and activewear this month. I guess we could have worse addictions
Jenny says
I watched the men skate last night! (after my sister texted me to tell me the Olympics had started, a fact which I was previously unaware!). Yes, I’ll be watching. Especially the skating.
I’m very intrigued but the IQ bars! I’m always looking for a bar with very little sugar that I can bring to work in case I need a quick snack. Low-sugar bars are hard to find.
I will look into your challenge- it sound good!

My heavy spending times tend to be Dec & Jan — so many good deals. I won’t say I haven’t bought anything, but I don’t think I’ve bought any clothes recently. That may change soon . . .
That’s a great way to honor your Dad, Marcia.
I’ll be watching the Olympics, but I tape it so it’s always after the fact.
Cari says
Ooh I’m in for your challenge and will hopefully do better than I did with Jenn’s tracking wise. Love the charity and the reason
I discovered Athleta, ‘nuf said on spending. I could be buying worse.
Not an Olympics person unfortunately
Jessie says
I’m excited to watch the Olympics! There is actually quite a lot of Minnesota representation there this year- apparently we are better at winter sports than summer, ha! I love watching.
What a great way to honor your day!
Kimberly Hatting says
I’d love to run towards Spring with you! I’ll already be doing “the daily work” anyways, so why not ? Those bars really sound intriguing!! A HS classmate of mine has a son on the bobsled team, so I’ll be watching for him!
Kim G says
I purchased a pair of running sneakers last month but other than that I’ve been pretty good with not spending money on workout gear, but who knows how long that will last, lol.
thanks for posting about the challenge – i will check it out!
Catrina says
I have never heard of magteine. But if it boosts clarity. focus, attention and productivity I think I need to have it!
I’m excited for the Olympics, too. I just read that it’s the first winter Olympics without a single flake of natural snow. Although it’s very cold in that part of the world, they don’t have enough precipitation for snow. It’s amazing that they can still pull it off.

A great way to honor your dad. That disease killed my mom and her dad too.
I am not a fan of the Winter Olympics but this afternoon there is the kick off of the rugby 6 Nations tournament so I will stay in front of the tv until evening.
Meranda @fairytalesandfitness says
That is a great organization to donate to and a great way to honor your dad!
I haven’t been buying any fitness gear lately but I have been weeding my closet out of things I do not wear or like so by spring I’ll be ready to replenish!
Coco says
I’m sure we’ll watch some Olympics. I like the skiing. I bought a lot of winter running tights last year that I never wore since my fractured rib kept me from running outside for a while, so I am discovering them now. Your running for spring program sounds great — we are going skiing that week!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Yes, I will sign up, but how exactly will it work? Will we track it manually? I just bought more Oiselle gear (which I do not need) and hydration drinks mix. Not a fan of the Winter Olympics so probably will not watch it.
Jenn says
I’ve been spending a bit, too. Part of it is that we need winter clothes – it’s been super cold here and we just don’t have the gear.
