Who’s ready for spring? You’d better believe I’m raising my hand! While it was not the worst winter here by far, this season just has a way of lingering way too long. Sadly this week we went from Olympic coverage to the sad and despicable specter of war. Sigh.
Here’s how the workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, Trail run 5 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Bootcamp + Core + Yoga
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles, Upper Body Strength, Core
Thursday: Walk, otherwise rest
Friday: Walk, Run 4 miles, Lower Body Strength
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Bootcamp, Core
Sunday: Walk, Run of some kind TBD
I got out to run before we got another dump of snow. Go us.
After the snow, my trails were pretty much unrunnable…for all but the craziest canines.
This uninvited guest paid us a morning visit twice this week.
This critter stopped by as well. Hopefully the coyote didn’t see him.
As the Carcass Rots
If you’re just joining us, you can catch up on the coyote/deer saga here. The good news is the carcass was fully ingested/dismembered long before it had a chance to thaw let alone rot. The bad news is some member of the wildlife community managed to drag an entire leg across the frozen water, directly into our yard. So special. After a few days though, based on the drag tracks across the pond, the remains of said leg were again dragged across the ice. While there is no trace of the remains left, many animals like to come to the spot to sniff it. It’s gross and I’m grateful for the new snow cover. Let’s move on.
Turnabout
This weekend was our high school’s Turnabout Dance, so I was busy retrieving boutonnieres, taking pics and other parental duties. I’d show you a pic of Thing 2 and her date, alas that would be totally unsanctioned. Oh well, it was a fun night. No masks or even a negative Covid test were required because mysteriously that is suddenly of no concern. Last week masks became “optional” at school and Anthony Fauci seems to have disappeared. Go figure.

Lower Body Strength & Sculpt. I runfess I felt this one for a couple of days. Yikes. It’s all good though, that just means I needed it, right?
I’ll leave you with this shot of my boy at sunrise. It’s such a peaceful time of day. May there be peace in Ukraine.
How was your week? Mask or no mask? Any races coming up?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Sounds like a great week! Glad the dismembered leg has disappeared. I know at my son’s college they no longer require masks. I’m not even sure anymore what the policy is at my daughter’s school, but she still wears one. We heard at work that we’ll soon drop the mask requirement. I agree that it seems mysterious and sudden, but on the other hand it has to end sometime!

That pic of Ozzy in the morning sunlight is breathtaking. Beautiful capture! I had someone shame me once for “embracing the DOMS.” Well, I think they’re a sign of a great workout. Like you said, those exercise moves that brought them on were probably needed. I’m glad to see all the mask mandates lifting, but I agree it seems rather sudden.
Michelle says
Yep mask mandates disappeared in a flash here, except interestingly enough my high schooler will still be required to wear one for lacrosse. I’m not sure I follow the logic. My company still hasn’t announced the plan for when we return to the office in April.
Good to hear that the carcass is gone – let’s hope you don’t have any repeat performances!
Liz Dexter says
Yes, we’ve suddenly no need for masks, tests, et al., apparently. Hm. Glad the leg left you!

That pic of Ozzy in the snow is so cute! We are seeing signs of spring this week but hope it is not too warm. I totally over dressed on my run today. Masks seem to have disappeared overnight here as well. I can’t say I am sad about it. I am ready to move on at this point. Have a fantastic week ahead

Oh my, that carcass saga is nuts! And wow, cool pics of the wildlife. That possum is cute 🙂 Keep Ozzy away fro that coyote!
It does feel like dropping masking was very sudden. Our city dropped ours, though Dustin and I went out to dinner last night and the restaurant was still enforcing one.
Your pre-snowstorm run looked so great- what a difference a day makes! Have to cherish those clear trails every time we get them 🙂
Wendy says
I’m not exactly thrilled with the sudden disappearance of masks, but they are still required in my office. I can’t wait to get pushback on that…:p my motto will be ‘no mask, no visit’. People are so special, aren’t they?
So exciting for J to go to turnabout! Did she go with a friend? Or a boy that she likes? I feel like I never get to talk with you, lol
Keep Ozzy away from Wylie Coyote!

I still mask a lot at my moms. They do a Friday night Sabbath service. The couple that usually leads it couldn’t make it due to the ice, so I was the server as the only really able bodied person. Mask all the way! But not in the apartment unless someone came in. I did mask around my sister, who was there briefly, as she works in retail. How she’s avoided COVID I have no idea!
Anyhoo . . . eew on the leg! SO glad that is not something we have to deal with. My sister was telling me they had another racoon fall down their chimney (it’s happened in the past) plus a bat flying around. I guess it’s a good thing we don’t have a fireplace!

That is a gorgeous sunrise, and great scenery for holding out hope for the Ukrainian people. Is a Turnabout dance what we used to call a Sadie Hawkins dance? I’m glad the kids had fun, but bet Fauci is frustrated with us all — or maybe he’s thrown his hands up, knowing he did all he could.
Yuck on the carcass saga. I hope for your sake this is the final chapter!
Catrina says
Haha on the carcass, Marcia! That’s hilarious, especially with that leg going back and forth! I love how much wildlife you have around your house.
We are just back from a safari and we’ve seen a wide range of gross carcasses. While the lions kill and eat about 60% of a wildebeest, the hyenas lie in wait for their turn to eat the next 35%.
And then there are the vultures who eat the rest.
In the end, there is nothing left – just sparkling clean white bone.
I hope there will be nothing left by the time spring comes around.

I know the weather has been brutal there, but it looks like Ozzy is really enjoying it! Also his coat is just too cute 🙂
I’ll admit that i may have let out a very loud “Ew” as you gave us an update about the carcas.
Jenn says
You know, I didn’t even realize Fauci is gone! Insanity.
So we haven’t required masks in a while. I wear one when I’m in places like the grocery store or target. I ask A to wear one at school. We all wear one if a business requests it. Mr PugRunner is less likely to wear it. I mean. We can only do what we can do.
I’m glad she had fun at her dance. A had a school dance on Friday, but he wanted to stay home with the puppy.
