It was another cold week here, cold enough to put mom’s warm taxi into action for a few days. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 20 min x 2 otherwise rest
Tuesday: Walk 10 min x 3, Trail Run 3 miles + Core + Sauna
Wednesday: Walk 5 min x 3, Upper Body Strength, Sauna
Thursday: Walk 2 miles, 30 min TM run, Lower Body Strength + Core & Sauna
Friday: Walk 2 miles, Cody Bike Bootcamp, Core, Sauna
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, TM Bootcamp + 30 min pop run, Core, Sauna
Sunday: Walk 4 miles TBD
Below zero temps threw a kink in our walks. Poor Ozzy is getting pretty good at doing the frozen paw dance. Monday’s snow event that came right in time for the morning rush meant I drove Thing 2 to school. Our usual 20 minute round trip became an over 90 minute cluster of sitting in traffic on horribly icy, snowy roads. It’s been years since I’ve experienced one of these messes. The prolonged commute ate up every last bit of my workout window since I was locked solid with calls the rest of the day.
On Tuesday it warmed up just enough for me to sneak out for a few trail miles. testing out the new line from Skirt Sports. The rest of the week my workouts were in the comfort of the pain cave. Despite running feeling really good right now, I did have a few nights of restless sleep. I’ve been waking around 3am unable to go back to sleep. One day I gave up and got up at 4:00, then ended up napping later.
When I don’t sleep well I wake up in carb-burning mode according to my Lumen Metabolism Tracker. These are the final days of their Winter Sale so if you’re interested, now’s the time to save up to $100 + an additional 10% with code MARCIA10.
Update on “the carcass” . I suppose I could call this segment As the Carcass Rots, except it’s way too cold for any rotting to take place. Remember the gruesome coyote/deer story I told here? Below-zero weather and fresh snow thankfully obscured it from sight…for awhile anyway. The fresh snow on the ice also showed the foot prints of all the animals that are participating in the feeding frenzy. Some generous soul even dragged a furry remnant into our yard. I kid you not. Most people watch the activity at their bird feeder, but no, I get an entire deer carcass. Ok let’s move on.

How was your week? Has winter weather set in?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Gack!!! I guess that is one way to suppress your appetite! By the time spring rolls around, you’ll probably just have the skeletal remains. :p
I love those tights! Running is definitely challenging right now, but I haven’t gotten desperate enough to resort to the TM. Let’s see what happens with this big storm they are predicting for this week. Is it our turn?
Darlene S Cardillo says
Um. yes… cold AF.
Running has been a challenge. I did get out but did not the last two days.
Today I am procrastinating cuz it is sub zero and I have to run long ….
Kimberly Hatting says
I was surprised that yesterday’s borderline freezing temps didn’t feel uncomfortably cold for my short run. Although, the stiffness, from all the recent car time, may have been a big enough distraction. I haven’t looked ahead to see what Momma N has in store for Iowa this week…I’m hoping I missed the worst of Winter 2022 (wishful thinking, I know LOL).
Deborah Brooks says
The weather has been challenging the last few weeks. I am still getting out there and doing my thing. We don’t have quite as severe of weather as you do but this month has been unusually cold for us here too. At least the sun is out today! Stay warm.
Coco says
Ugh on the cold commute from hell. I remember one day it took 2 hours to get my kids to school, and I was thinking we could have gotten to King’s Dominion (an amusement park they liked) by then.
Ick on the carcass, although it would be interesting to see the footprints minus the gore.
Jenny says
Oh poor Ozzie! He needs some little boots.
Ha ha… As the Carcass Rots. Maybe you’re lucky it isn’t warm out, otherwise that carcass might be smelling REALLY BAD. It’s kind of like an educational National Geographic experience for you now-seeing nature up close and personal. I wonder how long it will take for it to all be… disposed of.
Marcia says
Ozzy has boots he refuses to wear! We’ve gone through no less than 3 pairs and nope!
Yes it is a blessing this incident is going down in the cold of winter. I’m hoping the skeletal remains will slip in to the pond and be gone as soon as it thaws.

I am sorry about that commute! I was always lucky that I worked very close to home — until I worked from home. I guess I’ve always been a trendsetter so to speak.
Ugh! On the deer carcass. That would be disgusting, for sure, but it is the circle of life.
Michelle says
Ugh I was wondering if you still had a view of the carcass…maybe it will get dragged out of view.
That drive to school sounds brutal – with a shortage of plow drivers, I’ll be interested to see what our drive tomorrow morning will look like.
Interesting about waking in carb-burning mode after a poor night of sleep. I’ve finally hit a fat-burning roll this week – now to figure out how to do it with more consistency.
Jessie says
Beautiful picture of you running in the snow!
Oh poor Ozzy. Winter is hard on the pups! Ours are excited for spring 🙂
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Ugh, that’s crazy about the commute time! Our school did cancel one day because of the icy road, and had a 2 hr delay the next day. I heard we are supposed to get a lot of snow this week. Part of me really wants that, but then I’m trying to figure out my running schedule…
Catrina says
I can just imagine how frustrating that must have been, sitting in traffic and seeing your workout window slip away.
But you made up for it for the rest of the week. I like how you break up your walks into multiple sessions over the day when it’s too cold. It’s nice to get a break away from the desk!
Black Knight says
You look very fast despite all that snow.
Ozzy seems not to appreciate the walk.
Not a beautiful experience to drive in the traffic on icy roads. Here the last time was in February 2018.
I cannot complain about the weather. We can run outside everyday without any problem.
Jenn says
EW! How are you going to get rid of the carcass? Does your county come get it? That’s just so awful 🙁
I love the bright running clothes against the snow. So gorgeous.
Ozzy is such a doll. Luna hates the cold and the wind. She is so good about getting into her sweater in the morning, and then snuggles up in fuzzy blankets the rest of the day.
Kim G says
Awwe poor Ozzy 🙁 It was so cold and windy last week. I am hoping that the wind subsides a little bit this week.
Oh I did not like the update on the carcass story, especially since some of it ended up in your yard…EW!
