It was another week that started eerily mild but by the end, the cold winds made things more seasonal. Halloween is a week away after all. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Yoga, sauna
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, Yoga, sauna
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Yoga, sauna
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Full-body strength training, sauna
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles, sauna
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength, sauna
A couple days after the actual full moon. We wait 30 minutes to walk but it’s still quite dark.
There wasn’t much running happening here this week. A nasty chest cold brought my years-long wellness streak to a screeching halt. What can you do? I kept it low-key with some much-needed yoga, lots of sauna time and hot peppermint tea and honey.
Our deck in warmer, more summery times. It was a fun summer but it’s time to let it go.
By Saturday we were freezing…literally. I’ve been dismantling my deck environment a couple of pieces at a time, because it’s completely overwhelming to do it all at once…and now it’s time to let go of the flowers that were enjoying the last vestiges of warmer days.
I did finally get out to run. While the first half mile made me question my decision to run, things quickly improved and I’m glad I went. All it takes is a little shot of cold weather to make the colors pop!
Cooler weather means it’s time to make soup and that’s exactly what I did. This classic chicken noodle from the Barefoot Contessa did not disappoint. There’s also an underlying reason for the soup, you’ll have to wait for Runfessions for that.
What to Wear for Winter Running. I found myself on the “overdressed” side as per usual when I ran in freezing temps this week. That eans it’s time to revisit this “what to wear” tutorial. Of course everyone’s internal thermostat is tuned a little differently, but still, it’s worth reviewing.
Speaking of Runfessions
The Runfession Friday Linkup is THIS Friday, October 29! Join us!
Did you know there are less than 70 days left of 2021? You may know I love some 4th quarter challenges and this year will be no different. I’ve not yet set my goals for the remainder of the year but they’re coming!
How was your week? Has Jack Frost come to your neck of the woods? Any goals for the remainder of 2021?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I’m having FOMO on your sauna.
It’s in the 30s in the am but it quickly warms. I’m trying to remember how to dress.

GlD to hear that you’re feeling! I’m seeing a lot of that chest cold in the office. It’s definitely a change of pace from the previous year when no one was getting sick due to the lockdown. We have to dismantle he deck too. I hate doing it. It’s kind sad, right?
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh yes, Jack Frost came a knocking & the colors are now most apparent. Yesterday’s run, in the sub-35F temps, was a good test of my winter weather dressing tactics. Thankfully the wind wasn’t a factor, so #score !
Jenny says
Ugh, a nasty chest cold does not sound fun. Glad you’re feeling better! I’m looking forward to hearing your 4th quarter goals…. I have a few of my own as well!
Liz Dexter says
Sorry about the cold, we’ve had one racing through the UK and a few friends have had it. Hope you have fun setting your goals!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
My goal is to just get through it, LOL! No major goals, really, keep on moving.
I am sorry about the cold — but boy, a private sauna sounds marvelous for that! And the tea & soup. Sounds like they did the trick.
No hard freeze, not yet, but temps in the high 30s a couple of mornings.
Deborah Brooks says
Sorry you were not feeling well this week. Even though, I have a system for dressing for runs it always seems confusing in the fall when it first cools off. Have a good week and take care!
Black Knight says
Sorry for the cold: tea and soup will work well for a fast recover!
Here Jack Frost is far, we can run again in summer outfit: perfect weather for runners!
Beautiful photos.

Your summer deck looks so cosy! I bet you spent many hours there in summer.
Now I can’t wait to hear the backstory about the soup!
Jessie says
Oh, man, I love a sauna! Sorry to hear that you had a bad cold though. Hope you’re on the mend!
Michelle D. says
Sorry about the chest cold. Spending time in the sauna sounds like a good course of treatment.
Looking forward to hearing what you’ve got planned for the final couple of months of the year. I set some mini-goals for this month that I may just extend into the holidays.

Sorry about the cold. We also need to start taking apart our patio for the season. We just covered our pool about a week ago! I wasn’t swimming in it, but I do like to look at it 🙂

Glad you’re starting to feel better. Honey Ginger Tea is my jam, but might have to try the peppermint one since I’m a fan of all things mint.
I cannot dress for shoulder weather. Every year it’s a problem
Shathiso says
Sorry to hear about your chest cold, but happy you’ve been doing some good self-care activities and also that you managed a comfortable run in the end. Hope you’re feeling even better this week.
Coco says
Sorry you were under the weather last week, but glad you are feeling better. I struggled with what to wear on our bikes rides this weekend, because you also have to factor in the “breeze” you create riding at 15-20 mph. I overdressed on Saturday and underdressed on Sunday, but was only verging on miserable for 1/2 hour. 😉
Jenn says
I do hope you’re feeling better. Peppermint tea with honey sounds lovely.
My allergies led to a nasty post nasal drip with cough, so I get it. I feel good in the mornings, though, so I have been able to continue my runs and walks.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I tend to underdress for the weather but I always err on the side of being too hot. I will wear shorts until it’s physically impossible for me to (usually when it drops to the low 30s high 20s). My legs tend not to get cold as long as my top and head are warm for some reason.
I also love to make soup when the weather cools down! I’m gonna check out making some crock pot chili soon!
Kim G says
Oh no! So sorry that you weren’t feeling well last week. My sister is actually just getting over a chest cold as well and she was telling me how awful it was. Hope that you feel better soon and I’m sure the tea and soup will help.
It was pretty cold here on Saturday too – it was in the 40’s. I did a lot of outdoor walking but I felt like I dressed okay for it. Most of the time I underdress for Fall running because I tend to war up pretty quickly.
