Before I get to the near-death experience, here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 2 miles, Upper Body Strength, 20 mins Bike Tabata
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Tabata + Strength
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Upper Body strength + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 5 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Strength
It was a mild but super-gloomy week weather-wise. We are above normal on temperatures and it looks like the Chicago Marathon is going to be on the warm/humid side, with rain rolling in for the later finishers. Nothing extreme, but still not optimal either. Good luck to everyone running! I’ve got a handful of athletes I’ve coached for this race and I am SO excited for them!
My own running is still sparse but, knock wood, it’s feeling good. I think this muscle strain fiasco may be behind me finally.
Remember in my Runfessions I told you I hadn’t worn my Garmin because the charging cord had gotten lost in the kitchen reno chaos? Well I finally located said charger and attempted to energize said Garmin. It sat on that charger for hours and nada. Stone, cold deadsville. I started to panic and Google resuscitation procedures to hopefully jump-start my beloved Fenix. I don’t think it’s anywhere near old enough to die. When the Caveman returned from his trip I put him on the case. He didn’t have any luck either until he tried charging it with the cord from HIS Garmin. Boom! Oddly enough MY charger works on his watch so who knows what the heck happened. I’m just super grateful my Garmin is alive and well, hopefully for many more years.
Throwback to Parents’ Weekend from Freshman year.
Thing 1 arrived home for fall break on Friday. I hadn’t seen her since August so it was a real treat. She is in the thick of interviewing for next summer’s internship and has some exciting decisions to make. Some quality mother-daughter time is so good for the soul!

Strength & Sculpt Workout. It’s been difficult to shoot anything with workmen here all the freaking time, but this week I finally got stuff done! Here’s a 30-minute workout that hits all the body parts. Short, sweet and effective. Grab your weights and join me.
I’ll leave you with this pic from one of my trail runs. The trails are simply breathtaking lately.
How was your week? Any races? Is it unseasonably warm where you are?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

We’ve been relatively cool, although with a little warmer weather coming our way — but not as warm as the midwest seems to have had (we usually get your weather a couple of days later).
In addition to the dead treadmill, there’s the phone to replace and I had hoped to baby my Garmin along until next Summer but it’s not holding a charge well. It charges fine, but goes from 100% to about 86% overnight — with the phone turned off (and the phone connection turned off) and the Garmin locked. I really think it should’ve lasted another year but I guess it is what it is.
Enjoy having the family back together! It goes quickly!

Ha, glad you were able to resuscitate the garmin! And glad your leg is feeling better. Sounds like things are looking up overall- kitchen is done, watch is fixed, running is good, and you got to see your daughter!
Yes, I’m super excited for everyone running Chicago. While I was out on my (short) run this morning, I thought about them getting ready to run, and how excited/nervous they all were. I just finished watching the elites- but most people still have a couple hours of running left! Rain might be good to cool things off.

It’s been unseasonable warm here as well, and I couldn’t be happier 😉 When the real Fall hits, it will probably be over and done within a week (and we all know how I dread what comes next). That’s interesting with the Garmin cord! When a previous phone wasn’t holding a charge, my IT guy (at work) told me sometimes it needs the actual “original” cord to work efficiently (instead of a generic one…which is what I’d been using). Technology is SO iffy…

Glad the Garmin is ok!!

My Fenix cord got to a point where it wouldn’t charge unless it was positioned ^just so^, but luckily my husband’s Garmin had the same type. How great to see Thing 1. It sounds like she’s doing really well.

your trail runs are so pretty! I have an old Fenix 3 that is holding on by a thread. The battery drains super fast and I get some weird displays. I am hoping for a new one for my birthday next month. I must have had it for 4-5 years already so it’s time for an update. Not sure what the life of those should be?

Glad you were able to bring your Garmin back from the brink 😉 How nice to have your daughter home for a visit. My son opted to stay on campus this weekend and I’m missing him…sigh. Your trail shots are so pretty!

I solved the Garmin problem buying 2 Garmin!!! I wonder: how did we do when the Garmin did not exist? I still have my old stopwatch, mate of thousands adventures that I occasionally take with me on ultra-measured routes.
Glad you can spend wonderful time with your daughter.
Your trail route is wonderful!

I hope your athletes held up in the heat! Chicago was quite toasty for October! Though I ran it in 2007 when it was waaaayy too hot!
How nice that your daughter was home! Good luck to her on her interviews!

I had a Garmin cord that stopped charging my watch, but my old cord did the trick. So quirky!!
I hope you enjoyed your time with M! Are you free for lunch this Thursday? Nothing on the calendar except training with SJ. Fingers crossed.

With the weather (hot, humid and windy), I was surprised with how hard the women’ s group went out. The men were a bit more conservative, but still I was surprised.

That 2019 photo of you with Thing 1 is so so sweet!
Ha! I feel you on the Garmin!! I didn’t have a charger problem, but a display problem. Then I had to wait a few days until I got a replacement. Living without a watch on my wrist felt like missing a limb!
By the way, I loved the result of your kitchen renovation. So clean and modern – wonderful.

That’s so odd about the charger! The fact it works on hubby’s but not on yours! But thank goodness, his works on yours. I would have panicked too!

I can’t wait to see your finished kitchen! (you too, right?) That’s so weird about your Garmin charger. Phew, glad it’s working! I’m surprised your daughter is already working on summer internships. That seems like a long time away – but I guess not! Good for her. Daughter bonding time is wonderful 🙂

That’s so odd about the the Garmin! I’m glad that it finally started to charge.
So glad that you got to spend some time with your daughter! 🙂

So glad your Garmin is charging again! Mine has been pretty touchy, but I can’t justify a new one. Yet.
Yes, it’s hot here. We had a nice cool week, but I have no idea where the nice weather went.
Big race weekend for me coming up! I’m so nervous!

Glad to hear your Garmin is not a goner and that your daughter is home for a visit.
It looks like fall but still warm. Not hot but up and down temps.
And your kitchen looks awesome.
