Fall is here in full swing and yes, I’ve embraced the pumpkin spice. While I’m not the biggest pumpkin spice fan that ever lived, I have pumpkin spice creamer in the house and I enjoyed my annual Starbucks PSL as well. I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up. What’ll ya have?
Over coffee I’d tell you that, as of last week, we have a brand new, licensed driver in the house. Thing 2 snagged an elusive appointment at our local DMV and everything went off without a hitch.
Most of the DMV employees were decently pleasant. One guy was SUPER kind and went so far as to point out the spot “where many fail”. That said, one person, the cashier, was absolutely horrible. When Thing 1 approached the counter the woman barked “Why are you here?” and continued to be mean and sarcastic, even though Thing 1 was fully prepared with all the documents that were required. I stood in the background and wondered what made this cashier so darn mean? I also wondered if she might behave any differently if she knew all of her coworkers were much nicer…or maybe in some twisted way it gives her pleasure??
Over coffee I’d tell you It’s Homecoming weekend here at our high school. Last year, no thanks to COVID, there was no Homecoming so this will be Thing 1’s first time attending. I am excited for her!
Over coffee I’d tell you I changed my plans to visit Thing 1 in Atlanta yet again. Turns out her fall break is next weekend and she wanted to come home, so I’m going to space out my visit a bit. Not sure when exactly I’ll go….we’ll see.
Over coffee I’d tell you October marks the first anniversary since my dad died. In some ways it seems like a year went fast and in others it doesn’t. It’s still hard to believe he’s gone sometimes.
What would you tell me over coffee? Did you go to Homecoming? Ever encounter an especially mean or nice DMV employee? Are you a pumpkin spice fan?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and , for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

When I took my youngest to get his license at a different DMV than the one you went to, it was super crowded, and the woman behind the counter told us we should have gone to the DMV in Schaumburg because that is ‘our office’…ok, I didn’t know we had assigned DMVs. So rude. The last time I went, they couldn’t have been nicer. It was a pleasant surprise!

Congrats to your daughter! Nice that you can retire from mom taxi duty 🙂
Such a beautiful photo of you and your dad. Sending you lots of hugs.

Hugs on your Dad. It’s tough, I know.
Congrats to Thing 2! Everyone is so stressed these days, and can you imagine working at the DMV? I’ve encountered nice & naughty folks there, for sure. Which reminds me I can’t forget to renew my license early in 2022 — better set a reminder for myself.
having Thing 1 is even better than visiting, right?

That is a lovely photo of you and your dad. It is hard to believe people we love are gone. I like to think they are always with us in some way. I am not a pumpkin spice latte girl but I love all the smells of fall. Looking forward to decorating for fall this week

Happy October! I am a Pumpkin Spice fan…in fact, I bought a bag of the Starbucks one to drink at home and it’s pretty good! 🍁 Over a cup of coffee i’d say I did a trail run 5K over the weekend. It was a mixed bag, with a fun, challenging course but poor hydration offered and meh race goodies.
That photo of you with your dad is lovely. May he rest in peace.
Congrats to the new driver in your house. I’ve had all kinds of experiences at the DMV…nothing too bad though. Just always in a rush..long lines…

Glad to hear you’ve joined Team Pumpkin! Pumpkin spice just makes fall more fun.
Congrats to your daughter! What an exciting time for her. I’m glad they’re having Homecoming this year!
Losing a parent is so, so hard. Getting through the first year is a big milestone- things definitely start to feel easier. Beautiful picture of the two of you!

Well, the good thing about postponing your visit to Atlanta is that Thing 1 is visiting you next weekend AND you still have a visit to look forward to in the future!
Weird how some people can be so horrible to the people they are supposed to serve. At some point, when they were interviewed for the job, they must have claimed that they “enjoy serving the community”. What made them lose that good attitude?

Congrats to the new driver!
Beautiful photo with your dad. Losing a parents is hard but the memories of the time we spent with them will always stay in our hearts.
I have lost mom 20 years ago and dad 3 years ago. My regret: not having spent more time with them, especially with mom.

BIG HUGS on your dad’s anniversary. Hope it goes as best it can
I am not a pumpkin person, Almost accidentally put the creamer in my coffee at 7-11 because I thought based on color it was the reese’s one. Not a huge fan of chocolate PB coffee, but once in a while.
I did Homecoming every year, but when I was in school it was a friend thing more than a date one. Senior year I swore I wasnt going but changed my mind the night before and I had the SATs so mom went to a store and brought me home 7 dresses. EEK

We have a slew of rude DMV peeps here, too. Unless it’s something we need specifically from our own county, we go to another one (actually a shorter drive anyways). I think rudeness is an empowering thing for some people, which is sad.

Congrats to your daughter on becoming a licensed driver! During Covid, the DMV’s that stayed open in Virginia turned to appointment only. I had to renew my license in November and wanted to get my Real ID so I had to go in person. It was the most pleasant experience ever and I was in and out in 20 minutes!
I understand how you feel about time. October 20th will be eight years since we lost my dad suddenly to pneumonia. At times it seems like it was just yesterday and at other times it seems like forever. The first year with all of the “firsts” without him was the hardest. Sending hugs your way!

Ugh on the rude DMV employee. Maybe she thought that’s part of her job. I don’t think I’ve encountered particularly rude people there, but my visits have still been frustrating. At least that’s done now!
It’s gotten to the point where I have to do the math to know how long it’s been since my Dad passed. Definitely missed him at my son’s wedding ….
Your Washington D.C. Starbucks mug sure caught my attention!

I tried the Market Spice tea from Seattle fairly recently and have been enjoying a lot of that! (It’s orange-y/cinnamon-y + perfect for fall! :] )
I feel like going to the DMV is never a pleasant experience but that one sounds extra unpleasant. :[
Sending you lots of love + hugs.

Congrats to your daughter! What a bummer about the rude employee. I haven’t been to a DMV in years when my license expired and I had to get a new one. I like the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks. Expensive but yummy!

Lots of hugs to you, and congratulations on having a new driver in the house!
I am not a PSL fan. Peppermint mocha is my season. I think I probably went to Homecoming in high school. I know I played Ginger in a Gilligan Island float for Homecoming for college. Those days are hazy LOL.
