Hello from the dust and devastation that is kitchen renovation land. Actually I’m thrilled the guys keep showing up and getting it done, but yikes. It feels like someone turned the house upside down, shook it a few times then sprinkled it generously with dust. All that said, it’s time to sit down over a cup of something soothing and catch up. I’m linking up with Deborah, Coco and YOU.
I wanted to use my Portland mug for this shot, alas I couldn’t find it in the mess that is my home right now. See the start of fall colors?
After a few days of no coffee at all, I managed to set up the coffee pot in my office. Truth be told, my office is very close to the very noisy kitchen, so I’ve taken up residence in college-girl’s vacated bedroom.
Over coffee I’d tell you our contractor has the personality of a cardboard box. But when he gave us a calendar with a day-by-day plan of what they’ll be working on, all was forgiven. I’m pretty darn thrilled that we’re two weeks in and things are still clicking away on schedule…I don’t want to jinx anything but according to the schedule, they’re actually 5 days ahead. They work 12 hour days + Saturday most of the time, so it’s a LOT. But I’m not complaining. Let’s get this DONE!
Over coffee I’d tell you that we made our maiden voyage to the laundromat, since the mudroom is also out of commission. It went better than I expected…they had a “drying special” and the dryers worked super efficiently. However, despite using fragrance- and dye-free laundry detergent, and no fabric softener or dryer sheets, our laundry came out smelling “perfumey”. Even the stuff I air dried. It’s kind of gross to think I’ve got the residue of someone else’s detergent/fabric softener on my clothes. First world problems I guess.
Over coffee I’d tell you Hood to Coast basically wrecked me. My injured knee was so not having the 2,000 ft of elevation loss that happened in the first 5 miles of my first leg of the race. While it didn’t feel as bad as when I first strained that high-calf/behind-the-knee muscle, it’s not great, and I did not run this week. C’est la vie. It’s not looking too good for my virtual Seawheeze coming up in a few weeks, but Hood to Coast was still worth it!
What would you tell me over coffee? Any fun plans this weekend?
I’m also linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!

So glad the kitchen reno is going well! The dust is no joke. We naively set up our back-up kitchen in the basement right under the kitchen (because there’s a utility sink there), but learned after one day we had to cover everything with sheets because of the dust that filtered through ….
Ugh on your knee. I’m glad you think H2C was worth it!

Hood to Coast is on my bucket list, and have never been able to swing it…maybe someday, we can rally some running bloggers (?). Sorry to hear the achy behind-the-knee “thing” is still having attitude. At least you have the headline event outta the way, and can sit back (figuratively) and let things rest a bit more. Glad to hear the kitchen is taking shape!

Sorry to hear that your knee and you are feeling wrecked after hood to coast. Those races can take a toll. I hope with some rest you are feeling better. Good luck with the kitchen reno. It will be great when it’s done!

Sorry for your knee. Many years ago I made a big mistake racing even if I had a light pain on my knee. I pushed on a downhill and I got a mini stress fracture. I learned the lesson!!!!
Good luck with the kitchen; very soon I will have the same problem: I am already “scared”.

That’s so good to hear about the kitchen remodel and I can’t wait to see the finished product. Be sure to take lots of photos!!
I hate to hear about your knee pain 🙁 By looking at the photos I could tell a lot of elevation was involved. Hopefully resting it will continue to help with the healing process.

Yay for being on track with the kitchen remodel! Can’t wait to see the finished product.
I’m so sorry HTC took a toll on you. Hopefully, with continued rest, your knee will heal quickly.

Arg! Sorry about your knee. Glad to hear HTC was worth it though!
I’m very glad to hear the reno is going on schedule- even ahead of schedule. Sounds like you have a rare, conscientious and punctual contractor. About that trip to the laundromat- UGH. I can’t stand when my clothes smell perfume-y and I don’t use any fragrance in my detergents. I’ll try to avoid the laundromat at all costs.
Hope this week off helps the knee!

2000 ft of elevation loss in 5 miles? That’s a lot! I hope your knee will feel better soon.
And I hope you will be doing a race recap because I’m dying to read all about it!
So happy the reno is humming along nicely!
Darlene S Cardillo says
oh no…sorry about the knee. Hope it heals quickly.
My reno starts Tuesday. I’ll keep you posted…it’s one guy and his son. We have to pick up the cabinets and flooring. They deliver the countertops.
We already had the wallpaper removed and walls painted- 2 weeks for that.
And we got all new appliances delivered and installed (except microwave cuz it hangs from the new cabinets.

I’m sorry that post HTC is painful, but you’ll always have those wonderful memories!
I can’t even imagine having to use a laundromat anymore! Not sure our town even has one? I hope I never have to find out!

Haha, be glad your contractor has no personality! It would be worse to have a chatty worker who doesn’t get anything done! So sorry to hear about your knee. That happened to me with Big Sur. But it was so worth it!
Farrah says
hahah, “personality of a cardboard box.” I’ll have to save that for a future insult. 😛 I hope the renovations get done soon!
I hope your knee gets better soon!

Kitchen renos are no joke! So glad it’s going on schedule. I hope your knee gets better soon! I started having hip issues after my last Spartan weekend- it was a lot in one weekend and it definitely messed me up. Took like a month to heal.

My husband would be going INSANE. We had to have faucets replaced this week, and he couldn’t handle it LOL. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
We are having a chill weekend. I needed a break.
