I’ve come to terms with the fact that back-to-school time is bearing down on us. Why they go earlier and earlier in August each year, I do not understand, but it is what it is. On the workout front it was all about taking a rest from running and giving that strained muscle in my high calf/behind my knee a chance to rest and recover. Even our walks were shorter and slower for a bit.
Monday: Walk 1/2 mile, otherwise rest
Tuesday: Walk 1 mile, Bike intervals
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles, Upper Body Strength
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Power HIIT Workout
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Bike Intervals
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Run 2 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, TBD
The first week of August did not see much running. I pretty much did everything in my power to let the strained muscle rest.
On Saturday, I headed out on a flat, paved path for a test run. There was a little dull pain, but nothing unbearable. I think I was more fearful of stepping “wrong” or having pain flare up after the run. My leg felt great afterward though, so I don’t think I aggravated anything. Yay! I will focus on carefully and gradually ramping up the miles, in hopes I’ll be ready for Hood to Coast.
We had family and friends over on the weekend for a little college send-off for Thing 1. She’s a rising junior and I have no idea where the time has gone. Because it was so hot, I think we spent more time watching the Olympics than anything else. How about that Molly Seidel?! I’m also SO thrilled for the legendary Allyson Felix. What a star!

Express Power HIIT Workout. The complaint I most-often hear from my athletes is that they struggle to find enough time to workout, and when they get to the gym they’re not sure what to do. This HIIT workout works the entire body in under 30 minutes. Where there’s a will there’s a way!
I’ll leave you with this pic from one of our sunrise walks. It truly is the very best part of the day.
How was your week? Training for anything?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Glad to hear your injury is on the mend. None of us have time for these aches and/or pains. Yes, Molly and Allyson were nothing short of stellar. And, I have to agree…there’s nothing better than a great sunrise 😉

I’m so glad your leg is feeling better! I hope that trajectory continues. Watching Molly finish that marathon was such a thrill! And watching Alison Felix win all the medals kept me up late this week — I love that she’s 35 with a toddler and showing the world that doesn’t matter.

Glad to hear that your leg is feeling better. I’m sure you’ll be hitting the trails early with this awful heat and humidity! Good luck to Maddie on year #3!

Yay for a mostly happy leg!
I am hit or miss with watching Olympics, and usually a day late, but i did see the marathon & Alyson Fenix yesterday. WTG in difficult conditions!
I do sunrise Yoga, That’s why Bandit often gets walked later than he should . . .

Hope you calf continues to feel better. Timing is never good for these things but I know you will be just fine for your race. I can’t believe that my son is a senior already. It just went by so fast!

I’m glad your leg is feeling better. hopefully all healed up for Hood to Coast! Its coming up quickly!
Molly’s race was SO fun to watch. She is so likable too…I love the Olympics!

Good work! I wonder if we’ll get to see Molly on our UK-centric coverage, haven’t watched the update show from today yet …
I am training for an autumn half, today I went out early and wondered how long I could run continuously with no stopping to cross roads or take a walk break. Six miles with one photo stop and one slight blip to cross a busy road, and I hit target race pace on average, so pleased with that.

So glad your leg is feeling better! Sounds like you took a smart approach to resting it and returning slowly. Alison and Molly were both so amazing in the Olympics!

Now that is great news about your leg! Just a few more weeks and you’ll do HTC. I am excited for you! Allyson Felix is amazing. I love the picture of her carrying her daughter and her daughter staring and smiling at her. Beautiful moment between them!

It’s a very good sign that your leg still felt good after the run. Sounds like it will be fine! It’s tough when you’re trying to get ready for a race and be cautious at the same time, but I think you can pull it off.
Yes, my daughter starts school on Tuesday. Someone told me they start so early because of the football schedule. It still doesn’t make sense to me, but maybe someone understands it.

It does seem like the “back to school” timeframe comes earlier and earlier every year! I feel the same way about Allyson Felix, what a rockstar. I also saw today that women won 60% of the medals for the US team. Just further proof that we rock, lol. So happy to hear that positive news about your leg!

So good to hear your calf is starting to feel better – I hope things continue to move in the right direction.
It does seem like kids are going back earlier and earlier. I’m trying to soak up every minute of these last couple of weeks before my oldest leaves for college. Summer’s been a blur.
Jenn says
Oh, I hope things continue to go well for you and your pain!
I can’t believe it is junior year of college for your daughter! I hope it’s a great year!
That sunrise is just epic.

Glad you are getting better. A bit of rest is a good solution to come back to run without any problem.
I will enter a race on oct. 3rd but I am not following a training plan.
Epic sunrise!

This month I’ll be joining in the “sending a kid off to college gang”. Wish me luck! It will seem so weird with one kid missing. Sigh. Glad your leg was feeling better!
