The heat is finally on consistently here and we’re settling into our summer schedule. Here’s how my week in workouts went:
Monday: walk 4 miles, Trail run 3 miles
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, 30 minutes bike intervals + upper body strength
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, 1 mile to the track + 3 miles trail run
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, lower body strength + Core
Friday: Walk 6 miles, Trail run 4 miles
Saturday: Walk 6 miles, otherwise rest
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, heavy strength
Ozzy enjoys a little sun but hot trails? Not so much.
Thing 1 has completed 2 weeks of her internship. It’s kind of fun to see how exhausted she is after full-time work. Imagine if she had a commute! Thing 2 got her second vax on the weekend and starts a summer school class next week. Until then she’s been busy with friends and that makes this mama happy. Note we threw in a mid-day walk on a couple days. It was too nice not to but I will say it was too hot for Ozzy’s taste and we ended up carrying him.
Running has been feeling great despite the heat. Go figure.
Global running day was a bit of a cluster, in that my initial intention was to celebrate in the oval office. I ran over to the track to discover the it was fully setup for graduation, complete with chairs ON the track. So I ran home, changed into my trail shoes and got my miles in there. Plan B for the win! Thanks to Kim for making this pretty collage. I love my running tribe!
Dental Update
So I finally managed to make an appointment with the endodontist. After discussing the issue and assessing my pain or lack thereof, they gave me an appointment…..for JULY 14. Now I don’t feel one bit bad about dragging my feet making the appointment since apparently it’s not an urgent issue. In the event the pain comes back, it will be considered an emergency and they will get me in sooner. I kind of feel like I’m sitting on Mount Vesuvius though. This thing could erupt any day. I even had a dream that it did, however when I awoke, there was no real pain. The saga continues.
New On YouTube
Tight Booty & Core Interval Workout. The glutes are a powerful muscle group but they get lazy and weak if we don’t know how to activate them and make them work. This workout will get them firing! Give it a try and thanks for subscribing and if you wouldn’t mind giving the video a thumbs up and commenting, that’d help the YouTube algorithm immensely. Thanks again!
How was your week? Are you in summer mode? How’d you celebrate GRD?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

Yay on Thing 2’s vax, such a relief I’m sure
and oops on something I forgot to say on coffee post – also lost one of my early favorite masks and hoping it’s a sign, although I still tend to wear mine unless I’m running

Glad you finally got a dentist appointment scheduled. It is funny how exhausting the kids find working at their internship. We have the same over here! Good lessons though! Stay cool out there it’s been a scorcher here too

I love that photo of Ozzy – he looks so regal! I can totally relate to how he feels about the heat, lol.
That’s great that you were able to get a dental appointment and that it’s not an emergency. Fingers crossed that the pain doesn’t come back the month. I bet everything will be fine!

I think we can get dental checkups now but of course I’m now afraid of what they’ll find (I have poor teeth, even though they always congratulate me on my oral hygiene so it’s not my fault!). Good news on the vaccinations, it’s brilliant seeing all my younger friends getting them now.
Coco says
I do hope your dental pain stays quiet until your appointment! LOL on Thing 1. A full-time job is exhausting — and maybe even harder remotely, since you don’t get those natural “water cooler” breaks.
I could never carry Scooby home from a walk! I’d have to call someone for a ride. 😉
Jessie says
Glad the pain has subsided and that you have an appointment on the books- but July 14th seems pretty far away! Too funny you had a dream about it 🙂
Aww, poor little Ozzy. Our dogs don’t like the heat either. They try to stay in the shade on walks as much as possible.
Wendy says
Cocoa doesn’t mind the heat, but she loves the AC, lol. We don’t have AC at the lake, so we spent a lot of time sweating outside. She just kept chasing the ball…
You know what, it’s amazing to me that with all the glute work I do with SJ, my PT said my right glute max wasn’t firing? So I have to do those PT exercises, which has helped a ton. I guess it’s a good reminder for me to keep up with that stuff.

I have a bond on one front tooth. It’s quite old — was done before we moved here 12 years ago. There’s never any warning for when it will fall off though. 🙁
I called to finally make a colonoscopy appointment finally. They will get back to me on 7/26. Just to schedule the appointment! I admit that I am not at all sad about how long away that is.
I will never love hot running. My comfort zone is very narrow.
Kimberly Hatting says
Crazy about the track all set up like that, with no warning LOL Having a Plan B serves us well 😉 Max doesn’t love walking very far in the heat, but he LOVES lounging on the deck, outside, in full sun. I swear, he has a recessive feline gene in there somewhere. I hope your dental issue stays calm until your appointment…that would be nerve wracking.

Glad you got an appointment- it will be good to have it if you need it! It definitely warmed up alot this week. Its great you can get outside so much both for runs and walks!

It’s good to hear that your tooth pain is under control and you have an appointment booked.
And yay for the 2nd vaccine – my boys get their second in another week and I can’t wait to have the whole family vaccinated!
Jenny says
We’re ALMOST in summer mode now- my daughter still has two weeks of school. Our county’s “ingenious” answer to Covid was to start school three weeks late, so now we’re ending three weeks late. It seems cruel to still be going to school, especially since the seniors ended early, and my son has been rubbing it in. SIGH! It will end eventually.
Fingers crossed on your tooth situation! Hope you have a great week.
Jenn says
I’ll be in summer mode after camp is over. Then I focus on the beach and fun and some vacations. I’m so ready.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Ozzy cracks me up! He sure gets the best of things. That is funny about your daughter’s internship. A commute would exhaust her more unless she takes a nap on the Metra (assuming that’s how she commutes). That is good to know about the dental appointment. Now it is a matter of waiting.
Running With Fireflies says
I hope you don’t have any dental pain and the appt goes well.
I love that Collage for GRD! Such a nice community of runners.
The heat is on where I am and I’m having a bit of a hard time adjusting. There are frequent air quality warning. So I’m with Ozzy on not like hot trails lol.
Last week, I have gone out for evening run/walks during the week and then went on some really shaded trails in the woods on the weekend.
Black Knight says
Glad you got the appointment. Ozzy is so beautiful!!!
Here the heat has come and we are in summer mode: running is slower and shorter (the truth is that I am old but I prefer to say that it’s heat fault).
