Spring went out with the heat and humidity more characteristic of the dog days of summer, but not before we had a few glorious, low-humidity days that were pure perfection for running. Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Monday: Walk 4 miles, 30 mins Strength Tabata
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Track workout 4 miles, Plyo Intervals
Wednesday: Walk 4 miles, otherwise rest
Thursday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 4 miles, Balance & Mobility
Friday: Walk 1 mile, Bike Intervals, Upper Body Strength + Core
Saturday: Walk 4 miles, Trail Run 3 miles
Sunday: Walk 4 miles, Heavy Strength + Core
The trails are so lush and rapidly getting overgrown. Truly there is nothing better than getting out in nature first thing in the morning.
For the first time in a long while, I had an early-morning “meeting” in the Oval Office. It definitely was uncomfortable…and I’ve got tons of work to do…but the first step is the hardest and that one is checked off.
Ok ready for it? I’m a big believer in opening the door when opportunity knocks and that’s pretty much what happened this week. An old friend invited me to join her and 10 other badass women for the Hood to Coast Relay in August. Since Oregon is one of the few states in which I’ve yet to run, and because I’ve long thought the Hood to Coast experience would be so very cool to be a part of, I said yes.
Here’s a throwback pic from the last time I ran a relay: The Ragnar Madison to Chicago back in 2010. Eeek!
We all know my running miles have been very low lately, so I’ve got some training to do, but that all starts right now. This is going to be fun!
Tokyo Marathon News
The World Marathon Majors announced that all overseas runners registered for the 2021 Tokyo Marathon will be deferred to 2023. I’m so sad for everyone affected by this disappointing news. Personally that might have been a deal breaker for me. Once again I am incredulous when I think about the way the universe smiled upon me in 2019, allowing me to wrap up my 6-Star journey the year before the world shut down.

We’re still making our way through Season 4 of The Crown and have been enjoying coverage of the Olympic Trials.
Runfession Friday
Like it or not, June is slipping away and the Runfessional will be OPEN this Friday. Join me!
Happy Father’s Day! How was your week? Have you hit the register button recently? Ever done a relay?
I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down. Join us!

I have always wanted to do the Hood to Coast and the August date never seems to work w college stuff. I am excited for you! I am also putting together a Ragnar team for end of October for New England if you have any interest love to have you! Wow it’s runfession time again already?!
Liz Dexter says
That is sad about Tokyo – I’m glad you got in there, too!
Darlene says
That is so exciting. I’ve heard great things about that race.
I’ve only done the Vermont marathon relay and did it twice. There’s one in wine region of NYS that I’d love to do.
I’ve registered for some short races and tempted on some others.

Hood to Coast!!!!! Thanks for the FOMO, Marcia 😉 I had a last-minute opportunity to run that a few years ago, but couldn’t swing the logistics on such short notice. Believe it not, I have not been back to my local oval office since my last time trial…almost a month ago LOL I have thought about returning periodically, though, and doing a 1-miler to keep things in check.
Coco says
Wow on Hood to Coast — that will be amazing! Yikes on Tokyo. Did they give up on 2022, or was that full already? Are they expecting fallout/push-back after the Olympics?
Wendy says
Well, look at you! That’s exciting and something to look forward to. Crazy about Tokyo. Who would want to defer for 2 years? We had tickets to see Chris Stapleton last year, it was deferred to this year, ok, now to next year. Guess who’s asking for a refund?
Michelle D. says
Yay for the new adventure! So exciting!
Good grief I cannot remember the last time I set foot on a track – but I do see some speedwork in my near future.
The whole Tokyo deferral seems crazy to me. I feel for everyone who’s been left in limbo.
Jessie says
Oh wow, that’s a bummer about Tokyo. So glad you got in your 6th before all this!
Guess what? I’m doing Hood to Coast as well! Maybe we will cross paths!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’ve only done one relay, and that was just 2 people. I have a friend who love HTC — she was obsessed with it! We had plans to run in OR in 2020 . . . you know what happened to that. So no, still not hitting register.
I have no doubt you’re up to the task, Marcia!
Jenny says
i’ve never done a relay! Never been to Oregon either so that race sounds amazing. That should give you some great motivation over the summer.
That is definitely sad news about Tokyo- such a huge delay. I’m sure there’s a reason for it- I would love to know what it is.
I’ve also been loving the Olympic Trials! So much to watch and the actual Olympics haven’t even started yet!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Jealous but happy for Hood to Coast. I’ve always wanted to do it but it never worked out for me because it is the weekend before the start of the school year. Wow, the deferral is that long? Why not 2022?
Kim G says
The Hood to Coast relay sounds so exciting! I’ve heard of it before but I don’t think I know anyone that has done it so i will live vicariously through you 🙂
That’s so sad about Tokyo. I totally feel bummed for the overseas runners that were hoping to run the race.
Black Knight says
Good luck on the Hood to Coast relay: I am sure that it will be a very nice adventure.
I did a relay only one time 35 years ago (07, 25th 1986). It was a 10 km for teams of 4 runners.
I ran my leg of 2,5 km in 9:28 and I was 21 of 28!!!! My teammates were faster so our team was 14 of 28.
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I’m doing Hood to Coast this year! Last time I did it (or any long relay) was 2008! Never say never again! Maybe I’ll see you there?? Or on the way there or home?? I’m excited for an outdoor adventure with friends. It will be one of my first big trips after Flex and Flow camp a few weeks before.
Renée says
Awesome Marcia!! I have a friend who does Hood to Coast every year! Of course when I lived in Portland I was anything but a runner but nowadays I would totally snatch up an opporuntiy like that!!
I’ve done a coouple of marathon relays (4 runners) and a a couple run-bike-run relays (as a team of 2) and of course I did Ragnar a few years ago in Germany which was quite the experience!
You were so lucky with your 6 star completion! I also feel very bad for those who are waiting for this one to finish. I personally deferred Chicago to 2022 because I had no idea when things would be “normal” again. I think Japan just has to take stricter measures because they are still struggling a bit with covid.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I’m so grateful racing is back in some capacity. I think it’s a bummer the big races haven’t started coming back though. I have so many half marathons (20,000+ runner half marathons) that deferred us again to 2022 and maybe even 2023 with the way things are going. Though I hear New York is going to do a modified version of their race so I will be interested to see if that springs things forward in the Majors department. Once they see one race put on successfully, will others follow?
The Hood to Coast relay sounds super fun! I’ve done Ragnars and loved them so that should be an incredible experience. Especially Oregon the Pacific Northwest is beautiful.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
That relay sounds fun! I have never run one, but maybe someday I will. Oh wow, 2023 for Tokyo? That is surprising that they are going so far out. Disappointing indeed for those runners.
